Title: The View from Your Work Post by: Viin on July 13, 2009, 10:20:21 AM Since this started in the 'take a picture once a day' thread, I thought it'd be cool to see what everyone else sees outside their office window. Show us!
Here's mine: (http://dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/42220/Photos/Misc/office_view.jpg) Exciting, eh? At least I get a little bit of the Rockies! Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Cyrrex on July 13, 2009, 10:31:10 AM I have no view at work. I am in an open office space, and there aren't even any windows (we're in the basement). So a pre-emptive fuck you to all you people who are about to post lovely photographs.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: NiX on July 13, 2009, 10:47:38 AM My view! The perspective is totally off in the picture. The CN tower is much bigger when I look at it and the box/flag doesn't take up as much space as it seems.
(http://files.getdropbox.com/u/41161/ROM-26-Work-021.jpg) I'm jealous of the SLIGHT sign of the Rockies. I would kill to work in Van or an area of Alberta that would net me some mountain view. Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: 01101010 on July 13, 2009, 10:51:32 AM Holy shit, I have 24 Iron Mountain boxes stacked up in my office as we speak. Eerie.

Also, just busting your chops about the city stuff, Nixel. Toronto is one of the few I'd live in. Just noticed my fiancee put a gauzy bow on my viking's head. :oh_i_see: Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Brogarn on July 13, 2009, 11:04:39 AM To the front of me is just a monitor and a cubicle wall. I thought what is behind me would be more interesting, plus I could bitch a little...
(https://files.getdropbox.com/u/854620/viewfromwork.jpg) What's beyond those blinds is a golf course and nice trees. It's rather gorgeous outside, but if I hadn't just walked outside a minute ago, I wouldn't really know that. See that fucker sitting there on the right? The back of the head? Ya, that's the asshole who got a window seat but keeps the blinds closed. That's the most open I've seen them yet. Fucker. Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Cyrrex on July 13, 2009, 11:06:41 AM Why don't you walk over there and open them up? He your boss or something?
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: schild on July 13, 2009, 11:07:13 AM Walk over, open them, and when he says something, punch him right in the face.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Rasix on July 13, 2009, 11:07:31 AM Office view would be a nice white blank wall. 4 walls and no windows. Thus, I tend to work from home a lot. That view changes with the day.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Brogarn on July 13, 2009, 11:08:09 AM Why don't you walk over there and open them up? He your boss or something? He whines about it being too bright. I've been down this path and it's an annoying one. Also, sorry for it being rotated. Didn't realize that happened. Fixed it! Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Cyrrex on July 13, 2009, 11:21:44 AM When the whiney prick who gets to sit next to the window with the golf course view whines about his view, then I am going to have to go with Schild on this one. Simply punch him in the face. Then ask him again if he minds having the blinds opened.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Oban on July 13, 2009, 11:32:18 AM My usual view.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: schild on July 13, 2009, 11:36:10 AM That view changes with the day. What's it like living on an airship? Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Signe on July 13, 2009, 11:58:13 AM My view depends on which room I'm cleaning at the moment. It's all golf course, though. I don't play golf. I don't even like looking at golf. I spend a lot of time waiting for a golf ball to break a window but it never happens. I wish it would so I could stop waiting.

Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Sky on July 13, 2009, 12:10:54 PM He whines about it being too bright. I've been down this path and it's an annoying one. Complain to HR/Management that he is causing a hostile workplace and depressing you with the gloom. Then ask to be switched with him so you can get the windows and he can sit in the relative gloom, or better yet, stick him in a corner because of his 'condition'.Or take a page from my book and just break the blinds when nobody's looking. Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: NiX on July 13, 2009, 12:22:06 PM Complain to HR/Management that he is causing a hostile workplace and depressing you with the gloom. Or take a page from my book and just break the blinds when nobody's looking. Hostile isn't the way you want to go. Go with lighting. I'm sure, assuming your company is anywhere conscious of health and safety, you could pull something in that regard. It's becoming a huge cost to companies. Tie that shit to depression or look up the adverse of effects of fluorescent lights and demand the window spot because of your migraines/headaches or inability to concentrate. Edit: To add.. everything. Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Lantyssa on July 13, 2009, 03:18:44 PM No windows. It's a mostly private office created by making a maze of bookshelves to my little cubby.
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Merusk on July 13, 2009, 06:12:34 PM I'll post a lovely view of my corner tomorrow. Class-A office space means only people with titles get windows... even if they're only in the office one day a month. :oh_i_see:
Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Yoru on July 13, 2009, 06:47:25 PM I'm on holiday for a few weeks, so I suppose the view from my front balcony would count as my home office. Oh, yeah, and I just took this at midnight. :awesome_for_real:

When I was at Adobe most of us in my department setup our cubicles as "caves" to cut out as much overhead light as possible. We were working on Sun workstations that had large but low brightness screens and they didn't have any anti-glare coating on them so every bit of extraneous light got bounced off. In my cubicle I "disabled" 2 of the 3 overhead fluorescent light tubes in each panel and I had large pieces of art board mounted horizontally on the top cubicle wall edges (ours were full height walls) over my monitors to block out even more of the light. In the most extreme case somebody brought in one of those patio umbrellas and set it up in her cubicle. Title: Re: The View from Your Work Post by: Zephyr on July 13, 2009, 08:24:17 PM No picture, but it is one of the better views in Boulder. Thankfully there is a height restriction on buildings downtown.
