Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: Shockeye on December 18, 2004, 03:08:15 PM You just can't make this stuff up (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=394189&p=1&tmp=1#post394189).
Quote from: Blizzard Monkeys Players caught intentionally gaining levels in unfinished areas/zones will be dealt with severely by the Game Master staff. This can provide players with an unfair leveling advantage, and will not be tolerated. Post by: Signe on December 18, 2004, 04:25:21 PM I was just reading that thread. Diabolical. I especially liked the bit about not telling anyone where the areas are... that way if you find them and accidently kill something, the ban will be a surprise. They say that you will KNOW if you are in an undeveloped area and they list several reasons why... are they that ignorant regarding the stupidity of their customers? They do this shit for their own perverse entertainment, don't they?
Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: Paelos on December 18, 2004, 04:58:33 PM Isn't there a way to simply block entry through code, Blizzard? I mean shit, I can't run up and down mountains because I know there's an invisible wall, if it ain't finished, why is it open?
Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: Righ on December 18, 2004, 06:09:33 PM And, if it is unfinished and open, why the hell did they put a bunch of high level elite mobs in the place and give them 100 health? That's like putting down saucers of milk on your sofa and then thinking its fine to punish the cat for climbing on the furniture.
Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: toma levine on December 20, 2004, 06:40:59 AM During Beta, the Plaguelands (an "unfinished" zone) had 2 massive stone guardians waiting at the zone entrances. If you got anywhere near them they'd instakill you with a death ray. I'd imagine they are using a similar mechanic for any other unfinished zones.

Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: SirBruce on December 20, 2004, 01:38:51 PM Clearly, Blizzard's great record in making single-player games does NOT magically translate into MMOG management expertise. Which isn't a surprise to most of us, but some fanboys just wouldn't listen.

I suspect there will be more glitches and guffaws like this... ...still, I think they've built the best MMOG to date... Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: SirBruce on December 20, 2004, 02:34:42 PM Yes, but why do they make all of these same stupid mistakes? Don't they have anyone on their team who worked on a MMOG before who has the balls to say, "Hey, yeah, you don't wanna do that, we tried it before and it was a disaster"?
And after they didn't listen to that person the first time, you think they might after the 2nd or 3rd time they fuck up? Bruce Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Problem is, that if they would have, then they may have duplicated all the un-fun stuff that the absence of makes for the best MMOG to date... Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Post by: Nija on December 20, 2004, 04:32:24 PM I like the dropped hint of 100 hp high level elite mobs, just to lure people there.
Very tempting! Title: Blizzard, why do you punish us for your errors? Well, I don't see how that would affect most of their design elsewhere. About the only thing I could think of would be the "first hit gets kill" thing on mobs, which I wouldn't have actually believed would work until I actually saw it. I'm still not convinced it's a necessary or good innovation, but at least within the context of WoW so far, it usually works. Bruce |
