Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 01, 2009, 03:46:12 PM Is Capture the Ghost the only gameplay type?
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Megrim on July 01, 2009, 06:15:14 PM Oh wow, i had thought this was vapourware years ago. Good to see they are still working on it.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: gryeyes on July 01, 2009, 06:33:51 PM Looks awesome, first time hearing about it.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: ahoythematey on July 01, 2009, 07:55:39 PM Hmmmm...might have to give this badboy a spin. Been itching for a change from the same old nightly counter-strike/tf2.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: NiX on July 01, 2009, 11:51:42 PM Is Capture the Ghost the only gameplay type? For now. They wanted to perfect one mode instead of cluttering the mod with multiple gameplay modes that were meh. There's a lot of maps shipping with the mod. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Ookii on July 02, 2009, 10:13:29 AM Holy crap this looks awesome.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: schild on July 02, 2009, 01:09:32 PM Holy crap this looks awesome. It has been looking awesome since we were in college. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Stormwaltz on July 02, 2009, 02:56:13 PM Soundtrack for purchase here. (http://cdbaby.com/cd/edharrison)
Interview with the composer here. (http://www.moddb.com/mods/neotokyo/features/neotokyo-behind-the-music) Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: LK on July 02, 2009, 05:13:06 PM I'll take one kick ass mode with many maps over many modes with 4 maps any day of the fucking week.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 02, 2009, 05:19:18 PM I'm too old now to be playing CTF(G) :awesome_for_real:
Especially since there's only one flag so I can't just sit back and defend our flag. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Cadaverine on July 02, 2009, 05:32:10 PM Damn, the soundtrack is really nicely done. I might actually pick that up at only $11. And it looks like it's time to dust off the orange box...
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Lantyssa on July 02, 2009, 07:04:08 PM Is this just a multiplayer mod, or is there a story with it as well? Maybe I missed the all important part, but I didn't actually see much saying what the game is.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 02, 2009, 07:07:30 PM It's a team-based PvP mod like Counter-Strike. There's a little background story blurb on the Web site:

There's a little background story blurb on the Web site: Yes, but it says nothing beyond FPS and <story>. It could be a single-player game for all the description they give.http://www.neotokyohq.com/about.html Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Surlyboi on July 02, 2009, 11:42:30 PM I'll take a goddamn single player mode.
Fragfests are awesome, but I wanna get into the world too. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: gryeyes on July 02, 2009, 11:52:23 PM Game Info-Noob hints

Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: bhodi on July 03, 2009, 09:07:29 PM Game's fairly fun.
I like support, thermo bound to the middle mouse button for easy spamming. Machine gun, 3rd row middle. Smoke grenades that you can see right through = :Love_Letters: Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: gryeyes on July 03, 2009, 09:16:46 PM I think we were playing on the same server. I kept getting "snagged" on the floor it seemed. Its a fun game cant wait to unlock all the goodies.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 04, 2009, 12:10:17 AM God I suck so bad at this game :ye_gods:
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 04, 2009, 02:46:34 AM Some initial observations:
* Not having crosshairs unless you are sighted is fucked up, especially since in the game world you are wearing special visors and your HUD provides other targeting info. * The reload system is fucked up too. "Tactical reloading" is a standard technique practiced by military and police forces today. There's no reason to be tossing magazines away in the near future, especially in this sort of "special forces"-type engagement. Plus the HUD ammo display is all fucked up and it can be hard to tell how many rounds you have left when you are using your special vision. * I swear the hit detection system is also fucked up :oh_i_see: It feels like the game is tracking projectiles rather than doing hitscan but that could just be the lag factor. * Speaking of which laggers seem to lag the game for everybody else. I don't remember that being the case with Source engine games before, at least not to the extent it seems to be happening in this one. * Game has the same sort of "the rich get richer" problem that Counter-Strike has. I.e. the better team will unlock weapons much faster than the team that's getting pwned. At least in CS you can save up your money. * The uniforms are too hard to tell apart. * The Red X when zoomed in triggers way too easily. I.e. even if you aren't close to hitting a friendly when sighted you'll still see the X and lose your crosshair. Makes it very difficult to sit back and shoot from long range when friendlies are in front of you. * The pistol sucks. * I'm not sure there's enough that's unique in this game to distinguish it from all the other tactical shooters out there in the long term. The "visibility" system is about all there is, at the moment. * Can't really comment on the map layouts yet but the map texture work and modeling are very nice. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: ahoythematey on July 04, 2009, 02:56:20 AM The aiming does seem particularly fucked up, but I can't tell if it was by design or just some form of lag.
Early impression is that there are too many similar weapons, and a few clearly better than others. Being able to fire while cloaked is a problem, particularly with the "railgun". Movement is mostly okay, but sometimes feels off. Might just be lag issues. The rich-get-richer thing does seem more severe than in CS, where I can still do pretty well with the right pistol and paying attention. However, that's something I'm sure will be changed by various server admins once they start toying around with mods. Unless they have some much bigger maps, I'm not so sure there's really a need for the different squads. Can't knock the game for building it in, though. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 04, 2009, 03:11:15 AM Added client as attachment to first post.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Furiously on July 04, 2009, 03:43:14 AM I played a few rounds the created a nice world. My guns seemed to change for no reason at times. Seems made for play with friends.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 04, 2009, 03:44:58 AM That's actually your class changing without the game telling you. You can hit the button on the bottom left and go back and pick the class you want, assuming the cap still isn't in place.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: ahoythematey on July 04, 2009, 04:04:42 AM Knife is pointless. Shotgun feels too accurate over long distances, or realistically accurate over long distances if you want to be a smartass.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Hoax on July 09, 2009, 12:43:47 AM This looks too goddamn cool, I have no idea how to play or whats what yet but I intend to figure that out. Very very very nice work by these guys.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: NiX on July 09, 2009, 07:33:08 AM Either I hyped myself up too much or the game really isn't as good as they made it out to be. It really feels like a glorified Counter-Strike.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: HaemishM on July 09, 2009, 01:18:18 PM Played it, wasn't impressed. Might have been getting repeatedly dickstomped without having clue one why, but just not impress. Like the graphics, atmosphere and music, not much for the game.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: FatuousTwat on July 09, 2009, 03:13:43 PM Either I hyped myself up too much or the game really isn't as good as they made it out to be. It really feels like a glorified Counter-Strike. This. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Ookii on July 09, 2009, 04:11:23 PM Okay, for anyone who is attempting to play this game, do this:
- Pick support - Use the Mosoka 41 - In any open space have thermal vision on There, you're now a master of Neotokyo. It's really all about the M41 and thermal vision. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: FatuousTwat on July 09, 2009, 04:13:41 PM Lol, that is exactly what I was doing. The first unlocked rifle is insane.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 09, 2009, 05:52:55 PM Played it, wasn't impressed. Might have been getting repeatedly dickstomped without having clue one why, but just not impress. Like the graphics, atmosphere and music, not much for the game. This is true of any tactical shooter until you learn the maps and weapons.Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Engels on July 10, 2009, 09:41:00 AM So true. My first week on CoDWaW tactical sniper style games was a game of measuring my life in seconds. If I lived for a minute while actually moving, I counted myself lucky. Now, however, I know the bolt holes and bottlenecks and make newer newbs miserable with mah boom headshotz. :drillf:
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: ahoythematey on July 10, 2009, 01:54:21 PM The game needs more time, really. There's a lot of room to become really fun, but right now it's not at all a threat to my CS/TF2 play.
Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Ookii on July 10, 2009, 04:12:29 PM It's also important to note that the fun you get out of the game directly correlates to how many people talk on your team. If you have a team full of people with mics, you will win. And it's also a lot more fun to boot.
Apparently there is an interview out there somewhere with the NT guys, I hear the next gamemode is team deathmatch. Which is what it basically is now anyway. Title: Re: Neotokyo Post by: Trippy on July 10, 2009, 08:52:51 PM It's also important to note that the fun you get out of the game directly correlates to how many people talk on your team. If you have a team full of people with mics, you will win. And it's also a lot more fun to boot. Yeah, people are scared to pick up the ghost. It would a lot better if teammates close to the player holding the ghost can automatically see the enemies the ghost carrier can see but the game designers are a bunch of design fascists and are hellbent on forcing the players to play the game their way so that's not likely going to happen.Apparently there is an interview out there somewhere with the NT guys, I hear the next gamemode is team deathmatch.
