Title: Under the Radar Post by: NiX on June 29, 2009, 04:32:09 PM While checking out release dates I stumbled upon Split/Second, which I had never heard about or seen mentioned in many places. This led me to the idea of posting Under the Radar titles that I stumble upon and hopefully other people will post games too.
(http://files.getdropbox.com/u/41161/958271_20090311_790screen001.jpg) Imagine if Burnout was less about you using your own vehicle to cause damage and more about you using the world elements to eliminate or slow down your opponents. That’s what Split/Second sets out to do. From what I gather, the loose premise for the insane amount of damage and explosions is that it’s a TV production. But, don’t go getting worried and thinking it might be something like Stuntman, it isn’t. Normal racing with prompts to alter your current route, open up a new shortcut or just cause damage. That doesn’t sound too exciting, but how the game performs the route changes and shortcuts is something else. In the demos shown there’s a part where the route is altered by a airport control tower being blow up and as it slams into the ground it changes the track route. Checking out the linked gameplay will give you a better idea of how it works. Though not confirmed, one E3 hands-on mentioned they had heard of 8 player online and split-screen multiplayer. Split/Second is being developed by Black Rock Studios and published by Disney Interactive. The game is supposed to release some time next year. But anyway, neat find. Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: Velorath on June 29, 2009, 06:07:17 PM They've brought Split/Second up a few times on 1Up's Listen Up podcast. I think only one track has been available for hands-on demos, but the general reaction so far seems very positive.
Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: TheWalrus on June 29, 2009, 06:31:08 PM That looks swell. I may buy.
Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: NiX on June 29, 2009, 06:33:35 PM Is it too late to post about Kohan? Just a little. I'm interested to see how this will play out in multiplayer and how many variations there are on each map. Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: Viin on June 29, 2009, 09:41:55 PM Looks neat, but isn't a year out a little early to consider this "under the radar"? They probably just haven't started the Hype Machine(tm) yet.
To me, Under the Radar is something that releases and no one knows it existed until then! Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: NiX on June 29, 2009, 11:28:51 PM Majority of console games don't get the hype machine. Not every company comes to the conclusion that a massive marketing effort will get them the return they want. Plus, there's shit all for stuff that's released recently that didn't get attention.

Title: Re: Under the Radar Post by: Velorath on July 13, 2009, 08:33:51 PM That actually looks really interesting. You can pick it up on Steam for $30 bucks. There's also a demo up (downloaded it but haven't tried it yet). PSN version is supposed to be out sometime this month, but no solid release date yet. Heard good things about it so far, but from some of the previews I've seen and heard it seems like some people prefer the PS3's analog sticks to mouse controls. Edit: There's a co-op trailer on there as well in the video section, and while I think it's local co-op only (even on the PC, since it says co-op requires gamepads), it looks cool in the way it changes how you go through the level. Also, not really shown in the trailer from what I could see, you're supposed to be able to switch between the three classes on the fly.
