Title: Steam Special - Bethesda Games including Morrowind and Call of Cthulu
Post by: HaemishM on June 17, 2009, 01:01:04 PM
Bethesda Adds Old Games to Steam - 20% off (http://store.steampowered.com/news/2572/)

Essentially it's 3 games that are 20% off this week, Oblivion, Morrowind and Call of Cthulu. If you haven't played Call of Cthulu, this is a great time to get it (it's like $12). The game is a bit buggy and shootery at times, but it's worth it for the atmosphere and story, IMO.

Oh man, I might rebuy Call of Cthulhu just to have it handy on Steam.  That was an excellent game in between the handful of parts that pissed me off.

CoC is a great game. There was one car chase part that made me want to stab myself in the eye. But overall a lovely game.

The "escape" through to the warehouse is one of the finest moments in modern gaming. The tension and design in that whole section is just masterful. Shame the whole game wasn't of that caliber.

I just bought retail Oblivion GOTY edition a few months back and the damn game keeps crashing on me randomly.  I wish I could add it to my Steam account now, games seem to run better when launched through there.  Always nice to be able to DL whenever I want.

Or maybe I'll just play it on PS3 when I get that system.

TBH that was one of the parts that pissed me off because I ended up having to stop and retry it so many times.  After a dozen tries it goes from tense to just frustrating.  It was satisfying to finally work out how to get through it, though.  If it'd just had checkpoints or otherwise been a little more forgiving it'd have been perfect.

The escape thing you're talking about is the "ZOMGTHESEFUCKERSARECOMINGAFTERME" run that starts in your hotel room and ends somewhere in the town, right? If so, yes, fan-fucking-tastic scene that got frustrating enough to send me to Gamefaqs for help. Game was still worth it even with the frustration. The totally Lovecraftian ending was also mega-awesome.

Might have been luck!

I can totally see that being my favorite part of the game if I'd gotten it in two tries.  Lucky bastard.  (More likely you're just better at video games than I am.)

Edit: I should mention, I re-read Shadow over Innsmouth a little while ago for the first time since I played the game.  The level designer followed that part of the story almost note for note to put the player inside it.  Very impressive.
