Title: Bill has been killed

Quote
BANGKOK – Actor David Carradine, star of the 1970s TV series "Kung Fu" who also had a wide-ranging career in the movies, has been found dead in the Thai capital, Bangkok. A news report said he was found hanged in his hotel room and was believed to have committed suicide.

A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy, Michael Turner, confirmed the death of the 72-year-old actor. He said the embassy was informed by Thai authorities that Carradine died either late Wednesday or early Thursday, but he could not provide further details out of consideration for his family.

The Web site of the Thai newspaper The Nation cited unidentified police sources as saying Carradine was found Thursday hanged in his luxury hotel room.

It said Carradine was in Bangkok to shoot a movie and had been staying at the hotel since Tuesday.

The newspaper said Carradine could not be contacted after he failed to appear for a meal with the rest of the film crew on Wednesday, and that his body was found by a hotel maid at 10 a.m. Thursday morning. The name of the movie was not immediately available.

It said a preliminary police investigation found that he had hanged himself with a cord used with the room's curtains. It cited police as saying he had been dead at least 12 hours and there was no sign that he had been assaulted.

A police officer at Bangkok's Lumpini precinct station would not confirm the identity of the dead man to The Associated Press, but said the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park hotel had reported that a male guest killed himself there.

Carradine was a leading member of a venerable Hollywood acting family that included his father, character actor John Carradine, and brother Keith.

In all, he appeared in more than 100 feature films with such directors as Martin Scorsese, Ingmar Bergman and Hal Ashby.

But he was best known for his role as Kwai Chang Caine, a Shaolin priest traveling the 1800s American frontier West in the TV series "Kung Fu," which aired in 1972-75.

He reprised the role in a mid-1980s TV movie and played Caine's grandson in the 1990s syndicated series "Kung Fu: The Legend Continues."

He returned to the top in recent years as the title character in Quentin Tarantino's two-part saga "Kill Bill."

Likely a suicide, this story says a rope. No one is totally sure yet.

Quote
Kill Bill and Kung Fu star David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok hotel room.

Thai police told the BBC the 72-year-old was found by a hotel maid sitting in a wardrobe with a rope around his neck and body on Thursday morning.

The US star was in Thailand filming his latest film Stretch, according to his personal manager Chuck Binder.

Mr Binder said the news was "shocking", adding: "He was full of life, always wanting to work... a great person."

Carradine was part of an acting dynasty which included his father, John Carradine, and brothers Bruce, Keith and Robert.

The star was best known for his role as Kwai Chang Caine in the 1970s TV series Kung Fu, which spawned sequels in the '80s and '90s.

After a career which included more than 100 movies with directors such as Martin Scorsese and Ingmar Bergman, he recently found fame again thanks to his role in Quentin Tarantino's 2003 film Kill Bill.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Bierman, and four children.

Four children, no wonder!

I always found him sort of mysterious and creepy.   Now he's even died in a kind of mysterious and creepy way.  I mean, in this age of easily obtained prescription drugs - who hangs themselves?  Still, maybe he didn't.  Maybe he'll come back as some crazy Kung Fu ghost wizard and go after the people who did it.  That would be just like him.

Sounds to me like someone else was involved. Probably some prossie and the event of the evening was some form of autoerotic asphyxiation. And then when everything went tits up, the prossie stuffed him in the closet.

I would prefer it that way. Carradine getting his freak on in his 70s than killing himself.

I don't know.  People are odd and he was kind of extra special odd, no?  Didn't he live in a tree house for a long time and once say that Rick Sprinfield was one of his favourite musicians?  That's pretty weird.  Still, the whole thing sounds awful.

Seems fake. Head has thick black hair (Carradine had thin grey hair - that would have to be a wig if it's him) and people say it doesn't look like the rooms of the hotel where he was found. It's being hosted on CNN's iReport site with a "discretion advised" screen.

Not worth looking at. The key information would be hands tied above head, ruling out suicide, but it doesn't even seem to be him so it's not useful.

Couldn't the hair be for the film he was making?  They were sure fast to proclaim it a suicide, weren't they?  I mean,  who ties up their genitals before they kill themselves?  I might put on a wee bit of mascara or something, but that's about it.

Well, leaving aside the Hutchence incident, those of us who are in Britain and of a certain age still have the image of Stephen Milligan burned on our minds' eyes: a kettle lead round the neck, poly bag over the head, an orange in the mouth and wearing tights.

Of course, I have a journalist mate who said he was also wearing a Manchester Utd top, but there are some things you just have to shield the family from.

I didn't think I'd ever get to use that one again.

Heh well mullato was half black I thought? Anyhow, it's almost a stereotype at this point among Asians that half Thais get involved in entertainment or modeling there. If you ever find a Thai satellite feed, you'll see that there are very few Thais on the tellie. Japan, HK, SK, etc are a little more balanced, but it sells there too. As for me, I'm just joking. Not to mention I'm too old for that shit. I actually was encouraged when I was younger, but to be honest, growing up was a mindfuck. I intentionally refused to learn and try things, and just tried to be "American". Which is stupid.

I used to share a house with a guy who was half Thai, half German. His appearance was entirely Germanic but he was raised in Thailand. He had a white Australian friend who went to school with him in Thailand. They used to walk down the street chatting in Thai, which was a complete mindfuck for any actual Thais.

Heh well mullato was half black I thought?

Perhaps I should have put 'tragic mulatto' in quotes. It's a literary term for a character stereotype where a person of mixed race is rejected (or perceives themselves to be rejected) by both racial groups. Its named for mulatto characters in American romantic fiction but has subsequently been commonly used to described any mixed race stereotype where the author describes the character as being isolated because of their mixed racial identity. Oh well, I amused myself.

In Asia half-casts are hot shit. I couldn't say exactly why, but I think it's generally due to White-Chinese mixes having fairer skin (and unique facial features) making them wildly popular amongst the Chinese.

A fair number of Asian countries are decently anglicised (and dutchcised, spanishicised and frenchicised) and many are becoming increasingly americanised.

It doesn't really matter.  Thai people are just about the nicest you will find.

Put a little effort into it and you'll have friends for life.  Give them a little wah or "kop kun kaa" (well "krab" or something for the guys) and they get so happy you're even trying.  Tip well (and mind you, that means giving them like twenty cents) and they'll love you.

Seriously.  It's a pretty country and you can have a lot of fun over there, but the people make it amazing.
