Title: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Mrbloodworth on June 03, 2009, 08:14:36 AM Quote PRESS RELEASE - For Release June 2nd, 2009 Los Angeles – June 2, 2009: TurnOut Ventures Limited (www.TurnOutVentures.com), a joint venture between Turner Entertainment Holdings Asia Pacific Limited and Outblaze Investments Limited, today announced a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) based on the iconic Tom and Jerry television characters. Set to launch in the second quarter of 2010, the MMOG will open the door to the world of the eponymous cat and mouse duo. Players will create and control their own cat and mouse characters in the wacky cartoon world where they will embark on quests, customize their cat and mouse avatars, engage in classic Tom and Jerry antics in both ‘Player versus Environment (PvE)’ and ‘Player versus Player (PvP)’ modes, and interact with other players using a variety of social tools. The Tom and Jerry MMOG is being developed by Typhoon Games (www.TyphoonGames.com), the developer behind Hello Kitty Online and Ben 10 Omniverse. The MMOG is built on the Unity game engine, which makes the game compatible for both PC and Mac platforms when it launches in Asian markets in 2010. Well, at least they are honest with themselves that they are whoring out their IP to make a buck. Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Venkman on June 03, 2009, 09:24:13 AM Yikes.
And this is exactly what happens when it becomes dirt easy to make an MMO. At least Tom & Jerry still has a relatively high awareness as an IP. I totally expect to hear a Mighty Mouse or Underdog MMO soon. Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Hawkbit on June 03, 2009, 09:25:21 AM You know who needs his own MMO? Captain Caveman. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Modern Angel on June 03, 2009, 09:37:22 AM I would play this. Nobody but my wife knows the peals of laughter I break into when I watch Tom and Jerry.
God help me, I would play this... so weak. Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Vash on June 03, 2009, 09:57:45 AM If I heard correctly, TurnOUT Ventures are the fine folks that brought you Hello Kitty Online, hopefully that helps you set the proper expectation level for this title.... :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: sam, an eggplant on June 03, 2009, 10:46:34 AM So we shouldn't expect a AAA+ tom and jerry game? Phew, good thing you told us, I was just about to start a fansite, put up google adsense and try to get gamespy to buy me out. Now I have the opportunity to use the time I would have otherwise wasted productively looking at porn at work. Thanks!
Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: WindupAtheist on June 03, 2009, 12:04:16 PM A Tom & Jerry game where you run around the house trying to kill each other with everyday objects could be really fun if it were creative and well-crafted. This won't be. This will be grinding 60 levels to be able to drop a badly-drawn anvil on someone. But one can imagine.

- Since no one does worlds anymore, just areas linked by a common lobby, this would be perfect, as each 'area' / 'dungeon' is a house. - You join the Cat faction or Mouse faction for a character. - Mouse faction has to get things from the house back to the mouse hole, Cat faction has to stop it. Could work as both PvE and PvP missions, like battlegrounds. - The house 'dungeons' are layed out differently, but everything is built human size, but your avatar is mouse/cat sized, so you have to find ways up chairs to climb to tables, or clever ways to open huge hulking fridges. Of course house should be styled in the 40s and 50s USA era, since that when the toons were set. Think of fighting across a pool table with the Cat shooting balls and the mouse dodging them. - Armor, weapons, drops, buffs - uhhh, humm, uhhh, OK no idea. Items laying about, maybe food gives buffs like jumping distance, running speed, ... Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Jimbo on June 04, 2009, 06:15:31 AM Toontown.

Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Lantyssa on June 04, 2009, 09:42:59 AM That would be preferable. I'm just saying if your body was between me and the computer, calling the coroner might not be a priority. (I'd check that it's too late for CPR to do any good. Probably.)
Title: Re: Tom and Jerry ......... The MMOG. Post by: Jimbo on June 04, 2009, 04:54:23 PM Toontown is awesome to play, just that you can't really talk to random people in it. I know Disney did that to keep out the psycho's and keep it safe for kids, but imagine if they would open up a 18 and up realm with the same stuff. That is an idea, take a cartoon town and make it for adults, with decent game play, and it might be a cool game.
