Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Ironwood on December 14, 2004, 03:15:41 AM So, it's that time of year when we start thinking about getting gifts for the wife and I was thinking :
Internet monitoring software !! Since there's a fair few techies in the crowd, I thought I'd ask what kind of monitoring setups your companies/houses(!) use and what kind of feedback they give you. I'd also be interested in any good free utilities ! Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: personman on December 14, 2004, 04:08:44 AM Don't believe what she tells you - jewelry on big occasions and flowers every other month on a random day are the only things that matter. ;-)
Oh you wanted relevent advice! You know, I do that and she gets embarrassed that they've been sent to her work. Women are NEVER happy. But yeah, something that I didn't know would be good. Heh. Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Viin on December 14, 2004, 11:57:43 AM What kind of monitoring are you talking about?
Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Ironwood on December 15, 2004, 04:21:10 AM 'hands off' remote monitoring. I want a list to be generated of internal IP's and their requests to web sites (by name). I don't want to bother with installing shit on the desktops, I want a product that catches these things over the wire. Something, preferrably, that runs as a service too.
Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: UD_Delt on December 15, 2004, 06:45:32 AM Are you talking about a packet sniffer like Ethereal (http://www.ethereal.com/)?
Or a statistical monitorin tool for web hits like Webtrends (http://www.webtrends.com/)? Or even something like a parental control like CyberSitter (http://www.cybersitter.com/)? Edit: FYI I have experience w/ the first 2 but not the third, I just pulled that off of google. Heh, ever just look at the raw messages sent over a windows network? Its pretty funny. It basically translates to "Hi I'M Bob's computer, who are you?" and then every computer responds, and then they chat for a bit about the printers and routers and who is sharing what. After a few minutes of silence they do it all again. Most retarded networking system evar!!! Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: doubleplus on December 15, 2004, 07:24:41 AM Internet monitoring? Because you don't want her looking a porn while you're at work? I'm not sure what you're going for here.
Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: HaemishM on December 15, 2004, 08:03:32 AM I have an idea what you are asking for, and it creeps me out. :)
Luckily, I have no experience with any of these products, this is just a bit of the old Google-Fu. SpectorSoft Products (http://www.spectorsoft.com/) E-Spy Software (http://www.e-spy-software.com/) Catch Cheat, Inc. (http://www.catchcheat.com/) Have fun. Don't kill anyone. Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: doubleplus on December 15, 2004, 08:44:10 AM Jesus. She's not screwing the cyber mail man, is she?

Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Ironwood on December 15, 2004, 09:03:07 AM Ok, I think you all took the whole 'this is a christmas gift for my wife' too fucking seriously.
What kind of people would take a comment like that at face value. I'm looking at options for a company. Obviously. Jeez, louise. Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Paelos on December 15, 2004, 09:05:35 AM We don't get your British humor here. See: every show your country produced.
Title: Internet Monitoring Post by: Bunk on December 15, 2004, 09:06:53 AM Spector is fairly well known, but anyone that knows how to open msconfig can turn it off.
Hell, back in the olden days, we used to have to go through IE history logs by hand! And we liked it, damnit! Now people are aware that clearing their history is probably a good idea when looking at fucking donkeys.com. Thanks for the assistance thus far. |
