Title: New Releases - If you're buying games, use the Buy Stuff Link in the upper right
Post by: schild on May 10, 2009, 07:16:51 AM
I got tired of digging around for release dates more than a week or so in advance. (First, here's a generic link to Amazon: Buy Whatever From Here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/f13-20))

Anyway:
http://astore.amazon.com/f13-20

You can shop there. You will be booted to amazon upon proceeding to checkout and the shopping cart will be the normal amazon one. It's very well done.

Consoles are 2 weeks in, 2 weeks out.
PC is 2 weeks in, 2 weeks out.
Blu-Ray is this week and the next.

Will update each Sunday.

Alternatively, it would be cool if you could just use a referral link for amazon shopping. I don't expect to make real money off of this, but hey, WHY NOT right? (And, honestly, 10 people over time have bugged me to do this).

Is there anything else I should add besides games and blu-ray?

Edit: Adding a link for systems and worthwhile 3rd party accessories. May do a Best of/Recommendations area also.

Edit 2: Before you even say it, sorry for the extra sticky. I hate myself, almost a little about it. Ok, not really, I don't feel bad. But I do need to get a mod to consolidate all the PSN/Wii/360 lists (because I don't want to, haha).

Edit 3: Oh man, I sorta kinda want to find out how to earn Kindle Subscriptions.

Edit 4: Oh, and in typical f13 fashion, I weeded out the less desirable products.

Out of curiousity, assuming the first link is supposed to be a referral link, are you sure it's set up right?  I noticed that it just ends up going to www.amazon.com, whereas other referral links I've seen have a longer URL (similar to when I go to your a-store and then click on the powered by amazon link, which I guess is fine as a workaround for now).

I'm more likely to order from a referral link rather than the a-store, simply because I've heard horror stories about pre-ordering games from amazon.

Setting up referral links took effort. You're not really ordering stuff from an A-Store, it dumps you to regular amazon when you click checkout.

Of course, if someone said they were planning on making an order from amazon in this thread, I'd grab all the referral links just for those products. I probably should have just set up a thread for that. :|

I thought you could just set up a generic referral link to amazon's front page so anything a person ordered from amazon would give you a comission.  Doing a quick search on google, something like what this guy is doing (http://students.uis.edu/araut01s/amazon/ref.html).

Edit: Which is what I assumed you were trying to set up with the Buy Whatever from Here link, I'm just not sure that link is working right.

That one seems to work better than the one in the original post (in that it still has the referral information in the url after taking me to amazon's front page).

Can you get referral money from amazon.de as well? I'll get me a new LG W2261v soonish.

I've sent them an email asking about intl urls, but I'd imagine not.

No fight stick recommendations in the controller section?  Also you should put that adapter that lets you use a ps2 mem card attached to 1 of the ps3's usb ports.  That thing comes in handy if all your doing is playing ps2 games anyways.

I was gonna recommend the Logitech Freedom Cordless Joystick  (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Freedom-2-4-Cordless-Joystick/dp/B00006OP9C/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) for a decent, reliable joystick for PC gamers. I've had mine for at least 4 years now, and it doesn't break and I've had virtually no compatibility issues.

I have one of these [http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/awebsite-20] and it seems to work just dandy.  Really, I don't know why everyone doesn't just pretend this is Amway and set up one for themselves if you buy anything ever from Amazon... however I'm all for using the f13 one so don't listen to me.

Just ordered Left 4 Dead on the 360 through the generic link (already have the PC version, but my brother will be in town soon so I wanted to play some local co-op with him and then I'll probably just give him the game when he leaves).  So maybe check and see if it worked.

Velorath, your order went through, so the generic link works.

I wish you had a Streetfighter 4 fightstick on there.  I'm looking for one for my son, but don't know where to buy it.

Ideas?

Ty.  Any idea if it's worth getting?  He claims he simply must have it to more fully enjoy the game.  Which he plays sometimes.  Usually he plays Tales games.

He doesn't have to have it, but I bet some kids at school have them, and "he simply must have it to fully enjoy the game." At his age, I played Street Fighter on a SNES d-pad and liked it and arcades had no clue what Sanwa or Seimitsu was or why a gate on one stick was better for street fighter than another.

Updated. Decided not to remove past games because it'll be easy to track when price drops happen. Will always add games & movies 2 weeks ahead of time though.

Up near your Make a Donation button you should put a button link with a graphic, if you're allowed.  I keep forgetting about this being here.

What font is the PayPal button in?  Thought I had used a similar font for a few past iterations of ours, but the one I thought I used doesn't have italics.

The link in the News Box sends me to Amazon's homepage, did you want it to go to your AStore? (http://astore.amazon.com/f13-20)

Title: Re: New Releases (Amazon Store/Referral Link)
Post by: schild on May 27, 2009, 05:15:54 PM
Nah, that's just a generic affiliate link. The Astore is just to keep track of new releases and such. Either one works.

I went to your Affiliate link, changed there to Amazon.de and then bought Dungeon Explorer. Please tell me if you got money out of this. I suspect not, but you never know.

Yep.  I'll pretty much be skipping out on making any release date topics until Sept.

There is only a direct download version until September, so I don't think it can be linked through Amazon.

I can't believe Raiden Fighter Aces is 360 only, wtf its a Japanese arcade remake!!!!  I would buy the fuck out of it for ps3.

How come Street Fighter IV is only on the PC link?  Because the console versions came out before you were doing this?

Bingo, do you want me to add a console link? Whenever you want to shop at Amazon and the item isn't at the store, click the link in the news box in the upper right of the page. The one that says Buy Stuff!

People who order a lot of games through amazon might want to look into getting an ECA membership. (http://theeca.com/)  The website is a horribly designed mess, but among other things users get access to 10% off coupons for games and some game accessories.  Membership is usually $19.99 for 1 year (or $14.99 for college students or people in the military), but there's currently a free membership deal going on through Sept. 30th (http://dealnews.com/1-Year-Membership-to-the-Entertainment-Consumers-Association-for-free/318663.html).

Two warnings though:

1) Like I said, the website is crap and so is creating an account.

2) They don't always have the 10% coupons available.  They get stacks of codes at a time, and each code only works for one game, so if you're ordering or pre-ordering more than one game, you'll have to get several codes (which is easy) and make each purchase separately.

It's a lot of hassle for just saving 10% but worth it in the long run if you buy most of your games through amazon.

Edit: One of the other membership benefits is 20% of at gog.com

Maybe you should throw in some pre-orders like God of War 3 and Heavy Rain.  At least that stuff you wouldn't have to change as often.

Does it bring you to amazon.com or to http://www.amazon.com/?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&tag=f13-20&link_code=hom&*entries*=0 ? I thought the latter is intentional and is a referral link which still gives credit to f13? I Know when I click the buy stuff link I get the referral website and not the basic amazon.com

Purchasing hardware from newegg helps pay schild's powerbilll keeps f13 running, right?  Building a complete new rig within the next couple of weeks, soooooo...

That'd be nice. The return on Newegg is small, but can add up if everyone is buying stuff.

Which return is better for you?  I bought my 2 versions of Fallout New Vegas threw Amazon, I'm not sure if it worked, but I clicked on your link and then bough the games.  I need to buy some electronics and a couple more games, so I'll be sure & use Amazon when I can.  Oh if you were using the white version of the browser you can't see the shop box, had to change to F13 and it can be seen.
