You don't have to have taken them yourself, but it sure would be nice if you did! It'd also be nice if you kept them to about 1MB a piece and put them behind spoilers!

I have my in-game settings on high with an ATI 4850 and it looks blurry and less bright compared to your screens. Then I went into my out-of-game CCC settings and turned everything to max. Looks much better now at the cost of some frames.

Maybe. I can look at my settings but I don't recall doing anything other than setting it to 1680x1050 and maybe upping some parameters. I'm using a GeForce 9800 GTX+ with 185.85 on W7-64 RC. DX10 of course. I didn't alter the image, either, just pasted into Paint.NET and saved as PNG. Apparently I stopped playing around Chapter 3 because it is too scary for me. In the name of taking screens I played tonight and was greeted by this thing as it made a grab for me through the glass: Let's call him Mr. Terrible. I walk around a bit and things seem to be going a-ok: The room is littered with power-ups and a save point so I'm keeping an eye out for Mr. Terrible. But first, the bridge: And then Mr. Terrible: I only fought one monster and just glimpsed two monsters total, but I was on edge the whole time. Dead Space is amazing. Too bad I have nerves of jelly. Is the game crazy hard? I was looking forward to the Wii release (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/dawnofdiscovery) but after seeing your screens the Wii version looks a bit underwhelming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1Fa6Z0DbM). Plus the Wii preview clip mentioned "accessible" and "easy" a thousand times, giving me the impression it is a very watered down experience from whatever the PC version is. Crazy hard? No, not really. Involved, sure, it's a management sim. Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Sky on June 18, 2009, 07:52:10 AM The early Anno games were tough as balls imo. I never really hit the web for tutorials or anything, may have made them easier. I used to think of the game as the race to make tools before your economy imploded. Horridly documented games, but I loved 'em. Still need to pick up the new one, waiting for the gold package to hit $20.

I run _EVERYTHING_ at 1920x1200 but I don't turn on AA or QSAA or FSAA because I don't like my edges looking like they're covered in Vaseline. Leaving that stuff off lets me run everything else on Very High in pretty much everything, which is nice. And by pretty much everything, I mean anything that isn't Crysis. Still pretty comfortable saying it's on your end and not the game at 1280x720. I don't think you're quite grasping how ridiculously low that resolution is now. But yeah, thanks for the advice a 2yr old could give. Edit: The bottleneck may not be the processor or graphics card, it could be a fragged to hell HDD, could be a number of things, but on paper there's no reason that computer can't deal with a large raid in EQ2. What is that, like 20-30 people? Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Lantyssa on June 18, 2009, 03:07:17 PM No, there's actually some options which will kill any system. I think it's one of the lighting sliders if I remember correctly. I can crank anything else, but if that one goes above 25, my machine dies. 60 fps -> 1 fps. It happens within the span of about five ticks with lots to go above it, so it's just poor optimization.
(Outside I could raise it a bit more, but not much. I always tested in Neriak since if I could run there, I could run anywhere.) Oblivion (modded to hell): (http://www.gamerdna.com/uimage/3ut1RBW/thumb/green-emperor-way.jpg) (http://Stormwaltz.gamerdna.com/images/3ut1RBW/green-emperor-way) (http://www.gamerdna.com/uimage/Dt81RIf/thumb/cyrodiil-landscape.jpg) (http://Stormwaltz.gamerdna.com/images/Dt81RIf/cyrodiil-landscape) (http://www.gamerdna.com/uimage/Z0b1RHa/thumb/all-natural-skies.jpg) (http://Stormwaltz.gamerdna.com/images/Z0b1RHa/all-natural-skies) (http://www.gamerdna.com/uimage/k091RI4/thumb/oblivion-foliage.jpg) (http://Stormwaltz.gamerdna.com/images/k091RI4/oblivion-foliage) Holy crap that's beautiful. Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Venkman on June 19, 2009, 06:24:23 PM @Stormwaltz: Are those with mods or standard? Modded to hell. The major visual ones I use are: Qarl's Texture Pack 3 (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2363) Better Tiling 2048x2048 (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=1928) landscape LODs for QTP3 Weather - All Natural (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305) Really Almost Everything Visible When Distant (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20053). I also use a combination of Enhanced Water (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8011) and Alive Waters (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6914). Do note that this combination can tax even my ubermachine (QTP + RAEVWD = OMG). Lesser gaming rigs should avoid. Ok thanks. I've gotten a bunch of mods. I never really played Oblivion except at E3 2007, so since it was so cheap on Steam now, I picked it up. It's nice enough looking by default but the Steam forums are talking about all these mods. Quite a few so I'm going to start with your list. I'm not interested in game changers, just look changers. Partly because I want to push my finally-now-functioning/upgraded PC. Graphics card is still a bit old (8800 GTS 640mb), but that's what the "push" part is for :-) Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Yegolev on June 20, 2009, 06:55:14 AM Get an interface mod. Really. Doesn't matter which one.

I use BTMod (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=25) (you may prefer wz_Inventory (http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=886)) and Immersive Interface (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4109) (a highly polished installer with many options). Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Venkman on June 20, 2009, 03:23:20 PM Ok, so this is me redownloading Oblivion. I don't know what I broke, but broke it was.
I need to tiptoe into this more slowly. I want Qarl's textures, but the install procedure looked a bit questionable. Is it as complicated as it looks? I've no problem trying to figure it out, I just want to do it the right way, particularly since even just the five mods you listed have completely different install methods. Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Stormwaltz on June 20, 2009, 03:55:30 PM I'd been playing Oblivion maybe two weeks when I installed all of these. I still don't know much about the technical stuff underpinning the game. Fortunately, most of the modders include very comprehensive installation instructions.
I suspect what you need is in section 4 of the Readme -- "Archive Invalidation." Quote Due to a bug in Oblivion, texture replacements such as those included in this mod will not display correctly unless you take some extra steps to force Oblivion to use them. Unfortunately, Oblivion has major problems loading many replacement textures even if you use an ArchiveInvalidation.txt file (which is the current common practice). This topic is far too complex to explain all the whys, hows, and wherefores here, so we'll stick to simple instructions for known solutions that work well at the moment. You'll need to download Oblivion Mod Manager (http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmm_download.html) and follow the instructions in the Readme. You won't need any specialist knowledge, just click the buttons Qarl says to. That's what I did, anyway -- it seemed the easiest process. Title: Re: It's a high-res screenshot thread (1680x1050 and above, ctrl+v here) Post by: Venkman on June 20, 2009, 04:59:59 PM Right, ok, that was the part that gave me pause, particularly when they say their method is better than the "usual" method which I also wasn't familiar with :-)
I'm still a bit leery* of this computer, after the hassle its given me of late. And the problems I had in Oblivion were of the oh-shit-did-I-blow-the-videocard variety (hard locks, screen oddities, etc). So instead of trying everything at once, I'll just focus on Qarl/OBMM. * And btw, wtf is up with people saying "weary" over the last few years in regards to having trepidation about something?! It's leery or wary. Otherwise you're tired.
