What kung-fu did you use to make Demigod look that good?  I have my in-game settings on high with an ATI 4850 and it looks blurry and less bright compared to your screens.  Then I went into my out-of-game CCC settings and turned everything to max.  Looks much better now at the cost of some frames.

Maybe.  I can look at my settings but I don't recall doing anything other than setting it to 1680x1050 and maybe upping some parameters.  I'm using a GeForce 9800 GTX+ with 185.85 on W7-64 RC.  DX10 of course.  I didn't alter the image, either, just pasted into Paint.NET and saved as PNG.

That's what demigod looks like for me in Vista64 with an 8800GT also (at 1920x1200). Well, I have antialiasing off, but yea.

I hope you noticed that I just fired up the game to take pictures.  I wasn't actually playing it.  There was an update that I applied yesterday but I'm not confident that the connection issues are fixed.

Well, the biggest change I noticed was I connected to the internet server for multiplayer games in 0 seconds. It was incredibly fast. That's a *good change.*

I am having the same online problems for Demigod that I had at launch.  I'm sending it in for a refund.  If one day the issues are fixed then I'll repurchase it but I'm not counting on that ever happening.

Well.  Hrm.  I'm fairly sure it's LOTRO.

I picture the character saying "Bang.." as the nuke goes off.

Usually I'm not so far away from things.  This was a shot entirely about the water; the far landscape looks low-res because, well, it's a long fucking way off.

I took a few shots, somehow the dark ones are too dark and I decided not to edit them up for visibility.  I might have gotten a better picture of the fortress but my wife was being attacked by a large turtle.

Can't seem to get screens of DeadSpace.

Apparently I stopped playing around Chapter 3 because it is too scary for me.  In the name of taking screens I played tonight and was greeted by this thing as it made a grab for me through the glass:

I only fought one monster and just glimpsed two monsters total, but I was on edge the whole time.  Dead Space is amazing.  Too bad I have nerves of jelly.

Dead Space is far scarier on PC than it was on PS3 for me. Not sure why. Perhaps my brain just gets too involved when I'm playing PC games.

I noticed that too.  I think it's something about sitting at a desk, with the monitor right in front of you that elicits that edge of your seat I'm-in-the-game feeling.

Is the game crazy hard?  I was looking forward to the Wii release (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/dawnofdiscovery) but after seeing your screens the Wii version looks a bit underwhelming (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VV1Fa6Z0DbM).  

Plus the Wii preview clip mentioned "accessible" and "easy" a thousand times, giving me the impression it is a very watered down experience from whatever the PC version is.

The early Anno games were tough as balls imo. I never really hit the web for tutorials or anything, may have made them easier. I used to think of the game as the race to make tools before your economy imploded. Horridly documented games, but I loved 'em. Still need to pick up the new one, waiting for the gold package to hit $20.

I'm the step-child with my 720p shots, but my e6600/4GB/8800GTX crushes that res with most things not called EQ2.

Q9450, 8800GT, 4GB DDR2 (whatever the high speed stuff shit is).

I run _EVERYTHING_ at 1920x1200 but I don't turn on AA or QSAA or FSAA because I don't like my edges looking like they're covered in Vaseline.

Leaving that stuff off lets me run everything else on Very High in pretty much everything, which is nice. And by pretty much everything, I mean anything that isn't Crysis. Crysis is uninspired crap anyway so I don't mind.

There is no reason you shouldn't be able to run EQ2 with max everything on that system at 720p. In fact, you should be able to run EVERYTHING at max everything at 720p. I think your computer has cancer.

Nah, I have an 8800GTS, 4GB and e6600 and I couldn't max absolutely everything in EQ2 last time I played.  I think some of those sliders enable things that never got developed by the card makers because the tech was superseded by some new shiny.

Even at 1680x1050, nearly everything should be maxed. Seriously. Check your drivers, defrag, clean up your harddrive. Install games to a different partition / physical hardware. You're underperforming son, maybe the comp some digital v|@gr@.

Schild, have you actually set everything in EQ2 to max and attended a large raid or better yet, sat around a very busy city area? I do run it pretty much maxed out, except in a few situations, either very crowded, very active (lots of spell effects) or the odd unoptimized zone (Pillar of Flames was pretty crappy performance).

Still pretty comfortable saying it's on your end and not the game at 1280x720. I don't think you're quite grasping how ridiculously low that resolution is now.

Edit: The bottleneck may not be the processor or graphics card, it could be a fragged to hell HDD, could be a number of things, but on paper there's no reason that computer can't deal with a large raid in EQ2. What is that, like 20-30 people?

No, there's actually some options which will kill any system.  I think it's one of the lighting sliders if I remember correctly.  I can crank anything else, but if that one goes above 25, my machine dies.  60 fps -> 1 fps.  It happens within the span of about five ticks with lots to go above it, so it's just poor optimization.

(Outside I could raise it a bit more, but not much.  I always tested in Neriak since if I could run there, I could run anywhere.)

I never really thought EQ2 looked that great with max settings anyway. But that's more a style opinion than anything else.

Anno looks really promising, on many aspects and I'm looking forward to trying it also I liked the older games from the franchise.
Always amazed me how LOTRO can look as good compared to some other MMO, they have done a really nice job on this engine, just a shame I could not get very far in the game before getting bored.

WinXP? Go to Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Disk Defragmenter. Works ok,  but there are better programs, like Defraggler (http://www.defraggler.com)

Ok thanks. I've gotten a bunch of mods. I never really played Oblivion except at E3 2007, so since it was so cheap on Steam now, I picked it up. It's nice enough looking by default but the Steam forums are talking about all these mods. Quite a few so I'm going to start with your list. I'm not interested in game changers, just look changers.

Ok, so this is me redownloading Oblivion. I don't know what I broke, but broke it was.

I need to tiptoe into this more slowly. I want Qarl's textures, but the install procedure looked a bit questionable. Is it as complicated as it looks? I've no problem trying to figure it out, I just want to do it the right way, particularly since even just the five mods you listed have completely different install methods.

I'd been playing Oblivion maybe two weeks when I installed all of these. I still don't know much about the technical stuff underpinning the game. Fortunately, most of the modders include very comprehensive installation instructions.

I suspect what you need is in section 4 of the Readme -- "Archive Invalidation."


You'll need to download Oblivion Mod Manager (http://timeslip.chorrol.com/obmm_download.html) and follow the instructions in the Readme. You won't need any specialist knowledge, just click the buttons Qarl says to. That's what I did, anyway -- it seemed the easiest process.

Right, ok, that was the part that gave me pause, particularly when they say their method is better than the "usual" method which I also wasn't familiar with :-)

I'm still a bit leery* of this computer, after the hassle its given me of late. And the problems I had in Oblivion were of the oh-shit-did-I-blow-the-videocard variety (hard locks, screen oddities, etc). So instead of trying everything at once, I'll just focus on Qarl/OBMM.

* And btw, wtf is up with people saying "weary" over the last few years in regards to having trepidation about something?! It's leery or wary. Otherwise you're tired.

Don't use fucking ImageShack. Get DropBox, TinyPic or Photobucket. That said, the new class looks pretty cool (Warden or whatever it's called).

Also, x720 and x768 isn't high res. Don't use Sky as an example. His once high-tech TV is practically CRT outdated now. Practically. :oh_i_see:

And yea, Imageshack is not awesome. Ad hell, loads slow, and is annoying as piss.

THIS FREAKING GAME.

That's the primary complaint I have about LotRO landscapes.

Normally hidden pretty well by grass, which I've turned off to spot crawlers easier.

Same thing in EQ2, I love the flora but keep it off for harvestables, shinies and low-to-the-ground critters.

I use floaty names.  Everything is VERY OBVIOUS.

Fun hint: try talking to the pub crawl NPCs after every drink. They have lines for each beer you've drunk. The ones at the later taverns have more slurred dialogue than the ones at the beginning.

Not to mention the last guy who has already passed out by the time you get there and can't talk at all.

These Anno screens look stunning btw, best use of depth of field in a game i've seen like, ever.

Edit: (and I turned my graphics down a bit because Field of the Dead is a hog)

I clicked on the "HIGH" button and it gets better, but I still need to fiddle with it, perhaps.  Too bad I can't run it in DX10, the shadows look like I'm on the moon.

No, the pictures are not mine. They are from some thread in the Gaf but they look pretty damn good, especially for a MMO.

Several of us are playing AoC now, or at least I'm doing the trial.  Although I would rather play the game in those screens Dion posted.
