Title: Ocarina of Rhyme
Post by: voodoolily on April 20, 2009, 09:16:52 AM
This deserves its own thread. Hip hop mashed with the Ocarina of Time soundtrack. Good stuff, too, like MF Doom and Aesop Rock, as well as some classic Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

Unlike many mashups, this one is impeccably mixed. I'm so happy to have found out about this.  :awesome_for_real:

I thought this would have a better reception. Tough crowd.

But at least Signe and Bloodworth like it! You guys are my favorites anyways, so this can just be our private little tea party now.

I've dl'd it, just haven't listened to it yet... Sorry to disappoint!

It's, eh....interesting?

No idea how much of a hiphop/rap crowd there is here. I can at least say that it is well-done.

Still listening to it, but so far it's good.  I don't think it holds a candle to the 50cent+Queen mashup, which is the mashup by which I judge all others, but I'm enjoying it anyways.

EDIT: Finished it.  It's okay, but definitely not going to last with me.  Ocarina's soundtrack just doesn't have enough good music to really carry a mashup like this.  Maybe if they'd extended the scope to include zelda music throughout the various games...

Also, I really, really do not care for screw-style, and I think including any takes away from the whole thing.

Several of these made no sense. Aesop Rock with Goron Village and Jay-Z with Meeting the Owl is fucking perfect. Several more are hit and miss, but it's got a lot of shining moments.

The thing that makes absolutely no sense to me is why Gerudo Interlude is not anywhere in this?  That is very likely the best piece of music in the entire game, and would definitely mesh well with hip-hop.  You put snoop and dre to "Getting Treasure" instead of something like Gerudo Interlude or Ganon's theme?  Seriously?

50cent+Queen mashup

This one? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnhciWKsJk0)

I got a kick out of NIN vs 50 Cent (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6u8NTRjbsc&feature=related) and the NIN Super Mario Remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkRDmNkw1o8&feature=related).

Damn, that 50 cent mashup is flawless. The Pavement vs. Jay-Z "Our First Singer" mashup (of Our Singer and My First Song) from the Slack Album (http://www.seeqpod.com/search/?plid=67d38154d3) might be a new measuring stick though.

The NIN/50 cent one definitely was flawless as voodoolily put it. Definitely impressed with the Jay-Z one too.

Ah. Well, I still thought that the NIN/50 one flowed together pretty damn well. I actually wasn't that crazy about the Queen one.

I thought they were both good, though the NIN one took less fiddling.

Eh.

I would think some of the chuckles around here would love it, but it's pretty obviously not my kinda thing :) I'm more excited about the Willie album where he strips out the syrupy string arrangements of some of his classic tunes, I just with the song selection had been better.

Full album of Q-unit here (http://www.coletrain.org/qunit/), for those interested.
I liked about half of ocarina of rhyme, which is enough for me to say "I like it".  I'm just being negative because I don't care for the other half much at all.

That 50cent/NIN mashup is very, very well done.

If I had children, I would have them learning cello. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqUXDdJ3C-c) :awesome_for_real:

I'll see your cello and raise you a fade to bluegrass.

FourPlay have been doing that kind of thing for a while - video page includes 'Killing in the Name' and 'Sabotage' (http://www.fourplay.com.au/video.php).

Or their version of the Dr Who theme (play the sample) (http://shop.fourplay.com.au/Catgut.php).
