Title: This Spring Festival Starts today.
Post by: Mrbloodworth on March 24, 2009, 10:06:47 AM
So, i will post some helpfull links!

First, new developers diary about the newest addition to this festival. (http://www.lotro.com/gameinfo/devdiaries/354-developer-diary-spring-festival-)

Second, a great guide to the INN league! (http://lorebook.lotro.com/wiki/Quick_Guide_to_the_Inn_League_Reputation)

Also note, this is our chance to get the Inn league keg for our kinhall!

(http://www.blogcdn.com/www.massively.com/media/2008/03/lotroinnleaguekeginhouse_425px.jpg) (http://lorebook.lotro.com/index.php/Item:Inn_League_Keg)

Agreed. must get Inn League Keg for Kinhall! It randomly teleports you to obscure areas with full drunk effects.  First time I tried it, it sent me to an island in the middle of Forochel...surrounded by instant death frozen water.

It was always great to see new kin mates in my previous guild try out the keg for the first time.

That maze looks awesome, is that new?

There is a keg reward at the maze. Not sure if it will look the same, but it sure sounds the same. I almost had it but passed out a few feet from the exit.

I hope the maze stays even after the festival, it's pretty cool.

I would say this is likely (because keeping two different sets of world geometry would be impractical) but the quest givers will likely disappear.

Just watched "The Shining" two nights ago, flashbacks to the shining hedge-maze  :drill:

Spoiler regarding the Inn League hedge maze quest (because it was not obvious to me):

So you get the keg and maybe some rep for the maze?

So you get the keg and maybe some rep for the maze?

Assuming you can get the quest in the first place (need to be an Inn League member I think), you get a choice of the keg or 2 leaves (barter item). And some rep with the Inn League.

I am a member. In fact, I'm an Inn League Sage of Fine Spirits!

Are the leaves the golden leaves for Lothlorien? And what is the reset timer on this quest?

Title: Re: This Spring Festival Starts today.
Post by: Jamiko on March 24, 2009, 01:18:32 PM
The leaves (appear to be green) are barter items for an NPC near the hedge maze entrance. Good for anything else? I have no idea. Looks like all the quests are on 12 hour timers. If you fail you can try again right away though. I'm currently doing a chain of quests where you race through the maze against shorter and shorter time limits.

Update: this keg is smaller than the previous and it has a skull/crossbones on it.

I have been slacking like Magellan on the Sage of Fine Spirits part, but of course Fallia is only lv29, or maybe 31 after the latest book.

I really should move my account to the US servers. The retards at Codemasters won't give us the Spring Festival until Book 7, which has been delayed till April.

Related, I got the Amazeing title last night.  Go go 25 years of videogames training me to run mazes! :awesome_for_real:

I got it too and both kegs, and a hobbit yard shrubbery statue and a patch of clovers. My house now looks like a frat house. I've gont 1 chair, a bunch of fish trophies, my "room of death" which has all my stuffed dead things, and 2 kegs.

Now I just need the garden dwarf, the fish slap emote, the horse, and hopefully the black eye patch out of a gift box and I can move on!

We might start playing this again for a bit because we're very bored lately and I like festivals.  I say we because I have a Righ in me pocket.   I know there's some guild on one of the servers but do we still have an f13 Bat Country guild?  I'll be disappointed if there are no Eaaster eggs during this festival!  The website account pages is uncooperative today, too.

No bat country i am aware of, most of the F13 users are in RoME (Brandywine). Doesn't he tickle in your pocket?

I'm glad to see I still have mad flower picking skills for the Bree quest. One hour, 270+ flowers, ten gift boxes. A perfect way to spend lunch.

* Disable landscape frills so they don't obscure the flowers.

* Flower patches have a very close LoD fadeout - use a zig-zag search pattern and be sure to look around (half the time I'm strafing).

* Nen Hilith (the Howling Wolf cul-de-sac) in Ered Luin has a very concentrated number of patches. It's like the mountains cluster them up or something.

Wait. This is nothing to brag about, is it?

Maybe. I'm going to take your advice when I do my own flower quests again. Did you get anything good out of your boxes? I only got 2 boxes and got a tart recipe and a recipe for a corsairs legs and tunics.

I ran afoul of the "open next box too soon, get same item" bug. So far I opened three Blueberry Tart recipes, and one farmer recipe to make a house decoration flower arrangement. I saved the rest to open later.

Let me see if I can find a list of everything available for you.

Nen Hilith was awesome, thanks for the tip. Couldn't find a place like that in the Shire or near Bree. Another tip I found helpful was to turn on item names. I found I could see that even before the flowers. It's up higher than normal for other items so it kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. I've picked enough flowers today - need sleep.

I don't know what my problem was, but even with getting the Amazeling title I still somehow missed out on a ton of rewards.  I must have just not been looking at the quest rewards or something.  I don't even know where to turn in my hedge leaves, but I could probably use them to construct a new maze.  I should have done something other than play tag for half an hour.

I did the "cat lady" one, too, so I just need to bite it and go pick flowers.

There's a barter NPC mixed in with the hedge quest guys. Look for the blue banner off to the left.

I think this one's bugged. Despite breaking up my opening of packages, the results of yesterday's gift boxes were:

1x flower vase recipe
1x outfit recipe
1x pirate hat
6x blueberry tart recipes.

I honestly think they replaced all the junk crafting item drops from last year with that recipe.

Oh, and if anyone cares, they made it slightly easier to get rep with the Inn League in this festival.  The sinister keg quest is repeatable and gives 700 rep  per run and takes like 5 minutes, vs the pub crawl which gives 500 per run and takes like 15 minutes if you have a horse.  If anyone had been considering doing it, now would be the time, in case they don't reactive the hedge maze again until the next spring festival.

Once you have the faction, there are random Inn league members all over the world that need a beer STAT! those also give good rep. (They are only around during fests)

I thought you only needed to be a member to do that, and that it wasn't repeatable?  I finished it off a few days ago, but all the non-repeatable stuff that I know puts you around 4k shy of Friend.

Yes, you need to be a member, that what i meant by "Once you have the faction" (it wont be on your faction list until you do the bar crawl). Sorry, i didn't mean to imply you needed some level of faction.

On a different note:
Quote
Tag! You’re it!

The festival grounds in northern Bree-land play host to the many seasonal festivals celebrated in Middle-earth. Well-traveled adventurers know the fun doesn’t stop in Bree-land when the vendors strike their tents after seasonal festivals. The ancient ruins to the southwest of the festival grounds play host to games year round!

Tag

Tad Hollyway can be found just inside the first set of ruins just slightly to the south and west of the Bree-land Festival grounds, manning the Tag marker (25.6s, 50.9w). Speak to him to start the game. The first player to touch the marker will become “It.” All other adventurers inside the ruins are fair game. How long can you avoid being tagged and made It?

If a player steps past the entrance arch they are removed from the game and are ”safe” - no one can tag them. If the person who is It steps out of the arch, the game ends and a new player must click the marker to start the game again.

For those looking to mix up the classic game of Tag, why not try Keep Away? Instead of the person who is It trying to tag another person as quickly as possible, the game becomes a challenge to remain It as long as possible instead!

If you’re really looking to mix things up, be creative! You have a horse, right? Try Tag on horseback!

Freeze Tag

Tag a bit too tame for you? Just beyond the Tag ruins, you’ll find another set of ruins. Biddy Dogwort can be found to the back side of these, just inside the arch. Speak to her and learn the rules of Freeze Tag. The person who clicks the marker (26.15s, 49.7w) will be It, and everyone inside the ruins is a target. When the It player touches you you’ll be frozen in place. Once all players are frozen the game will announce that the It player has won, and rest. But don’t despair if It seems to be winning! You can unfreeze a frozen teammate by standing next to them for 3 seconds. Keep a sharp eye out though, as players standing in one place too long risk becoming a target themselves! And unlike normal tag, you can play in three dimensions. Sometimes the battlements are safer than the ground.

As with regular tag, leaving the play zone removes you from the action, though you can still watch!

So now that you know the secret in the ruins, why not create your own mini-festival? Grab some friends, set up a Freeze Tag ladder and see who comes out on top!

Seems there are games i didn't even know about.

I am now thinking of having a kinship game of tag.....

Is there anything I'm missing?

I've done the maze, I've done the flowers, I've done the Inn League, I've done the fence walking in Brockenborings (another keg reward!).

Is there anything neat in Thorin's Hall or Celondim?  I went there first, and all I saw was a dancer, and a herald quest to send me to the maze, but, I didn't really look too hard.

Other than Nan Hithlin (which is 90% primrose, 7% daffodils(? something yellow) and 3% violets), where are people most gathering?

Nan Hithlin was great, but a regular romp through Bree and the Shire was a complete waste of time.

So far there's only 2 spots I know of for good spawns:
1) Nan Hithlin and the road up to it
2) rez circle and near orbits around it in West Bree

where else?

2) for VIOLETS go to stone rez circle at West Bree

More broadly, it seems to run west of the stream to the west of Bree, all the way south to the edge of the Barrow Downs plateau, as far north as the Everclear Lakes, and as far west as Old Sweetgrass Farm. It may have larger boundaries, but that's what I can confirm. There's usually 2-3 flower patches around Dogwood's Farm, but nothing like the concentration at Nan Hithlin.

Well I popped back in for the freebie weekend and the first time I killed something was bumped from 36 to 38. Hopefully, that's enough to pop me past the grindiness that burned me out the last time. What level do I need to be to get into Moria? 50? If that's the case I'll put off buying the expansion for a while.

Title: Re: This Spring Festival Starts today.

I think people are saying 45 minimum.  I have plenty to do at lv32 without worrying about Moria.

52 is when the quests pop, 45-47 is when you start doing Eregion.

45 is also when you can do the beginning Moria introduction quests and get your first legendary weapon.

The April Fool's quest begins with a letter in your mail. It involves running through Ettenmoors. As a chicken.

The chickens all appear to spawn in one pace.

There were many, many monster players around it.

If I wanted to be ganked on login, I'd start a character on AC-Darktide. Pass on this one, though I respect the intentions.

My standards for trickery are pretty low, I guess.  What would have been a good one?  Is it that the chicken gets it in the end?  I might feel differently if it was me being bitten by a warg.

What would have been a good one?

Chicken vs. Balrog instance?

Giant boar invasion?

All non-instance monster spawns replaced with boar?

Hah and now they've shut the quest down because it was supposedly "putting too much strain on their servers." I guess it's easier to say that than to admit they've learned absolutely nothing about PvP in the last 10 years.

One of these days I'll stop being surprised when MMOG devs repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

It's too bad though. That "Fool" title would have been awesome.

We managed this last night about an hour or so after it started.  The spawn ganking is very weak sauce, and at least on Elendilmir people are calling out the creeps who do it.  People also seem to be taking turns -- once you make it, you roll a creep and then line up near the river.  That actually helps possibly with stopping the spawn camping.

There are two paths to the SE of the zone where Glan Vraig ("GV") is to win:

1) turn S and run over the grey hill next to the spawn spot.  You will be making your way towards warg mobs and a small NPC camp.  BUrst run through it and hit evade (these both have 2min cool down timers).  You will easily be able to outrun anything.  Keep heading S towards Hoarhollow ("HH") which is a hobbit NPC village.  Jump from the cliff into the river and then make your way towards HH.  The chances some creeps may be there is low, but not impossible and the freep NPC's will help guard you.  You then need to decide which way to head.  Going S again and up the hill is probably best, but be aware at the top are some creep NPC's who will one shot you on sight, so move E ASAP and run against the S wall towards GV.  Then you need to avoid the huorn (evil tree) mobs.  My advice having tried  this path 6-7 times is to keep your burst run till you are clear of the trees.  Once you get close to a small creep NPC tower, burst run and evade again.  The reason to do so is that this part of the map has stealthed creeper mobs -- they will be your biggest threat.  Remember you are only on a 13mins timer with 2min cooldowns of your abilities.  But if you can make it out of the woods past that tower you should be fine.

2) second approach is the mob raid with some freeps assisting.  I made it this way as well, but it's riskier.  The path from the spawn is due E over the green hills and I recommend the S of the creep camp (not taking the bridge if freeps control it).  The reason being is you can cross the river and move up the side of the troll camp hill and then beeline to GV.  We did this in a pack of 8-10 chickens and had no losses at all.

If you manage it you get the title of "Fool".

Sounds a lot like my MP sessions, except I can't run fast. :awesome_for_real:

Not sure how your seeing this one time chicken thing as serious PvP business.
A static spawn for players entering a PVP instance with no protection at all from players on the other side?

Mind-bogglingly retarded.

Its not an instance, its a zone, players from the other side (AKA Freeps) can choose to help if they want. Your a level 1 CHICKEN. The reward you get for this is the title: fool.

Whatever you like. God forbid I bring on the wrath of the local fanboys with my over the top outrageous criticism of what all thinking men must agree is the single best MMOG ever to be produced.

I can't imagine what I was thinking.

What? I just don't see it as a big deal, like, at all. Thought it was rather funny myself.

If it was a real quest, I'd be outraged and the blogosphere would burn with my fury.  However, it's an April Fool's Day quest, so meh.  No, really.

Sigh. It wasn't a big deal. I did it. Got ganked instantly. It took all of 30 seconds out of my day. All I did was point out that doing PvP like that is something that went out of style 10 years ago.

It is probably best to pretend LotRO does not have PVP anyway.

It's a fine idea, but it's ruined by having a campable spawn point. When camped, it's no fun for hunters or prey. You log in and die in seconds - no time to do anything.

If all creep players were honorable, it could still work. But they're not all honorable. When I tried it last night, there were Blackarrows camped behind the chicken spawn. You don't even see what kills you.

That suck-ass chicken quest has knocked out the whole LotRO farm, including lotro.com.

they didn't seem to plan this well:

1) Spring festival with new content and instances, overlapping with
2) Free Weekend with XP buff
3) a datacenter move

I think Turbine is doing a good job in general, but right now they really need to get their shit together.

Yeah, Not sure what changed over there, but something seems to have. I missed one of my few playtime's last night due to the issues.

Datacenter moves are no joke.  They have my sympathy.

It's true that moving your data center is no joke but you'd think that a group of people with more than one brain cell to rub together would not have so many things going on at the same time, no?  What a dreadful weekend.  I nearly decided to ditch the game entirely and find a different one.  I just couldn't think of anything I wanted to play.

feels to me like someone never updated a routing table, which is why it took so long to get moving.

but once we got access it now seems that the account db's are borked.  The auth servers that the game launcher uses are also used by the forums (?) and they are down.  Last night, people were being kicked out intermittently from the mega-thread on current status.

all in all, pretty stupid to do a free weekend and a welcome back with a DC move at the same time.

Hope they fix this mess, it's been ugly.

Server Maintenance Extension 4/6/09
Apr 06, 2009 13:48 EST We are extending today's downtime to include additional investigation and resolution on errors encountered during the weekend, including rubberbanding, invisible walls, and World Queue errors. We will update this message with an estimated uptime when it is available. Thank you for your patience as we work to resolve these issues!

Besides the known issues (Server Stability, Authentication, etc.) I had some errors I had never encountered this weekend.  While exploring the foundations of stone in moria it seemed that every 10 minutes or so, my video would go black (monitor saying no input) and I would lock-up completely.  I had really never explored the foundations until that point, so I do not know if is zone related or something to do with my video card (4850).  When it wasn't locking-up I was getting strange graphical issues (flickering black box around my character) and weird ass shadows.

I turned off shadows to test, but I didn't have time to go through the foundations again - but the game ran fine in other zones the rest of the night.

That issue almost sounds like a video card overheating or something.

For what it's worth, I was having really strange video glitches over the weekend as well. Like the graphics exploded into crazy fractals kind of glitches. Relog and all was fine. Something was very much messed up. It usually happened when I tried to zone into or out of some place.

Aye, that's what I suspected...but this is the only situation I have encountered it.  I tried running Far Cry 2 to the max afterward for 1+ hour with no problems.  Perhaps the glitching in FoS was sending the video card into haywire-mode.

Nvidia? Look for an error in the lower right on your taskbar referring to a driver nvddlkkm has stopped responding or something similar. It's an issue with Vista, RAM and some Nvidia configurations which nobody will own up to. Nothing to do about it.

You know, if it wasn't for DX10 I'd totally "downgrade" to XP.
