Title: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Hawkbit on March 23, 2009, 11:10:10 AM Ubisoft Week on Steam - every day a sale, one day only.
Monday: Assassin's Creed $9.99 Tuesday: Prince of Persia $24.99 Wednesday: Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway $14.99 Thursday: Far Cry 2 $14.99 Weekend: Ubisoft Classic Pack $9.99 Classic pack is: Beyond Good and Evil, Far Cry, Dark Messiah Might and Magic, IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Prospero on March 23, 2009, 01:52:48 PM I was sad to find out my processor is too slow to run AC. It's a dual core, but just a hair to slow. For 10 bucks I might pick it up and pray.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Xuri on March 23, 2009, 05:58:11 PM I picked this up. Only, being from the mythical country known as "Europe", I have to pay 14,99€ instead of $9.99.
14,99€ --> $20,52 :( Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Hoax on March 23, 2009, 07:29:13 PM I already own it for PS3, haven't played it yet...
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Yegolev on March 24, 2009, 06:17:40 AM I have it on 360 and can say that it is very probably not what you think. I should get back to it.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Segoris on March 24, 2009, 07:05:57 AM I picked it up even though I heard it was a bit disappointing overall. I figure that for $10 it's worth buying and saving it for a rainy day
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Hawkbit on March 24, 2009, 07:54:09 AM Yeah, I would have been disappointed spending $50 on it, but it's not an overly terrible game and for $10 it seems like a steal.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: SnakeCharmer on March 24, 2009, 08:06:12 AM Not worth 10 dollars.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Yegolev on March 24, 2009, 08:25:43 AM I enjoyed it a great deal, which prompted my previous post. It's really more of a collect-em-all/exploration game with stealthy stuff... meaning you collect map markers and walk very slowly. Not really what was advertised.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Monday Assassin's Creed for $9.99 Post by: Teleku on March 24, 2009, 09:27:48 AM Today's deal is Prince of Persia, for $25:

Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: Hawkbit on March 24, 2009, 10:09:33 AM Yeah, gotta pass on that one. I'd buy it for $10 though.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: schild on March 24, 2009, 10:13:20 AM If they don't do a Wheelman 50% off deal on release day tomorrow, I would expect Double Agent for $5, Heroes V Bundled for like $20 or maybe $15 and Settlers for $10. They might do HAWX or Endwar for 10 because they're total shit but I don't expect them to fuck around even trying to sell Lost or Grey's Fucking Anatomy.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: Baldrake on March 24, 2009, 10:17:19 AM Monday: Assassin's Creed $9.99 Aaaaaaaaaahhhh dammit! I was thinking Far Cry 2 @ $15, Heroes Bundle @ $20, and possibly Shaun White @ $15. If only it were "we're selling Ubisoft games at what they're actually worth" so HAWX would be $10 :( Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: schild on March 24, 2009, 10:26:39 AM Hawx and Endwar would be free.

Mail screenshot and $10 to Ubisoft and ask for a receipt. Just in case you want a return :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: Hoax on March 24, 2009, 04:12:46 PM Hawx and Endwar would be free. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Tuesday Prince of Persia for $24.99 Post by: schild on March 24, 2009, 04:26:04 PM How do I find the time to do anything? I'm pretty good at managing things these days. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Wednesday - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for $14.99 Post by: NiX on March 25, 2009, 11:13:39 AM It's ok, but they tried way too hard to make it dramatic when the tech didn't have the capability.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Wednesday - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for $14.99 Post by: Teleku on March 25, 2009, 11:43:49 AM Hmm, so far they've put out games with a meta score of 79, 82, and 81, respectively.
If these trends continue, I predict the next game will be Splinter Cell: Double Agent for $4.99! :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Wednesday - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for $14.99 Post by: Segoris on March 26, 2009, 09:07:42 AM Thursday - Far Cry 2 $14.99
I never did pick this up, I will today though for another rainy day title even though I heard it was worse then the first one. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Wednesday - Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway for $14.99 Post by: Samwise on March 26, 2009, 09:33:22 AM I might pick Far Cry up if it ever hits the price point where they will pay me to play it.

If I ever unpack, one of them is yours. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Thursday - Far Cry 2 for $14.99 Post by: Teleku on March 26, 2009, 10:43:15 AM Played the demo for Farcry 1, and it was pretty damn fun/cool. What is everybody's beef with the franchise?
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Thursday - Far Cry 2 for $14.99 Post by: schild on March 26, 2009, 12:19:52 PM Afaik, everyone liked the first, the second was like Grand Theft Columbia, had a dumb, dumb, dumb malaria mechanic and was all around meh. They totally fucked up what they were doing with the first one. Also, the gun play wasn't nearly as good.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Thursday - Far Cry 2 for $14.99 Post by: Samwise on March 26, 2009, 12:22:33 PM Played the demo for Farcry 1, and it was pretty damn fun/cool. What is everybody's beef with the franchise? If I could boil it down to one issue, it would be that they spent a lot of effort on having vegetation you could crawl around in that would obscure bad guys from you, but they didn't have it obscure YOU from the AI, so you'd have guys spot you from a mile away while you were hiding behind a bush. That's just fucking clownshoes. I think I spent about five minutes in the demo before saying "fuck this stupid shit" and uninstalling. That's just fucking clownshoes. I think I spent about five minutes in the demo before saying "fuck this stupid shit" and uninstalling. I got the game "for free", in that it came with a video card I bought a number of years ago. I figured, well, I may as well play it. I got to one level, fairly far in the game, and as soon as I stepped outside from some tunnel I was in, I got sniped by people down a valley, across the water, that were so far away my computer wasn't even bothering to draw them. It took me about 20 tries before I even survived past that tunnel, then said, this is ridiculous when I died anyway and had to do it AGAIN. Fun game, but that really was a deal breaker. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Thursday - Far Cry 2 for $14.99 Post by: Azazel on March 27, 2009, 02:39:53 AM I really liked the first one, despite it's serious flaws.
I really liked the second one, despite it's serious flaws, for the first half of the game. When the game hit the giant reset button at the midpoint, and threw you into a second area where you had to do the same shit as the first, I put it down and haven't picked it up since. I may finish it over my leave from work in a week, but mostly in order to have finished it, and to finish the f13 review I started back when I was enjoying it. Having said that, $15 is probably the right price for it. You won't feel obliged to play it all the way through at that price, so you can stop when the fun drains out. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Thursday - Far Cry 2 for $14.99 Post by: Yegolev on March 27, 2009, 07:26:19 AM I feel the need to mention that these Ubisoft games are already on or coming soon to GOG (http://www.gog.com).

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Beyond Good & Evil, Far Cry, and IL-2 for $9.99 total. If I didn't have 2 of those already, that would be an amazing fucking deal. Also, if I had $9. Anyone want to gift me Dark Messiah if they get it and already have it? keke Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Segoris on March 27, 2009, 09:07:27 AM I'm sold on this, nice fucking deal imo.
Also, for those that missed Far Cry 2 at 50% off that may have felt like picking that up, that sale is extended until Monday. So basically there is a second weekend special/Ubisoft 50% off for the weekend. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Engels on March 27, 2009, 12:22:54 PM The new pack includes IL-2 Sturmovik 1946, which is probably the best WW2 flight sim availalbe to this date. If that in any way floats your boat, jump on it. I'm thinking of purchasing JUST to have a backup of the game somewhere independent of media.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Teleku on March 27, 2009, 12:33:54 PM Just bought the pack myself. Great deal.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: caladein on March 27, 2009, 12:53:24 PM If I didn't already have BG&E, I'd buy that pack in a heartbeat. I don't know if I'd get Far Cry for $10 if I'm not getting Far Cry 2 for $15, as I have no interest in the other two games.
Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Sky on March 27, 2009, 01:35:16 PM Yar, it's a good deal, but I already own 3 of the 4. Not sure I want to get IL2, my desire for that game is circa bf1942 era.

Not sure I want to get IL2, my desire for that game is circa bf1942 era. The title is misleading. It includes every expansion prior to 1946, including, but not limited to, the pacific theater, the russian front, the crimea, and a lot more. You can fly the russians, germans, british, americans, italians, finnish, polish, check, bulgarians, french, austrailian and nz air forces. It has the most extensive collection of flyable ww2 planes ever, including just about any revisions of the spitfire, bf109 anf fw190. Edit: the game can be a bit of a pain to configure for widescreen. You have to manually edit the conf.ini file. If you get it and want a hand with any of it, send me a f13 message and I will send you my conf.ini, which you can use (editing for resolution) for most modern vid cards. fake edit: Wait, IL-2 comes with all of it's expansions? I wanted to try that game, as with Sky, back in the 1942 days... hmm.. and you can gift away the shit that you already own from within the multipack? or do you have to own it on steam to be able to gift it? Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Mosesandstick on March 27, 2009, 06:58:21 PM Imho doesn't make much of a difference. I think the racing and ship bits might be easier or more fun with a gamepad, but photography bits will be easier with a mouse. The combat's pretty simple and a nice, mild, diversion but I think the camera gets hectic enough that a mouse makes things easier.

No. This special offer only applies to “Half-Life 2,” “Half-Life 2: Episode One,” “Half-Life 2: Episode Two,” and the “Left 4 Dead Four Pack” as stated above. / Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Azazel on March 27, 2009, 07:11:24 PM Yup, just bought it. I know for a fact that you can play 1938 planes, including some seriously clunky russian and check planes that are a major challenge. They also have the very first hurricanes and if you are a gluttong for punishment, the first p-40s. Here's a list from wikipedia:

That's why I only buy 1) Valve games on steam, since they will have steam regardless. 2) Cheap stuff. Other stuff, I buy from retail, with discs. And I don't link my other retail-bought stuff to my steam account. I am concerned with games like DoW2 linking their DRM to Steam. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Baldrake on March 31, 2009, 06:08:28 AM Bah, sometime's there's a reason games are cheap.
I played BG&E for about 10 minutes before my gag reflex kicked in. It might be the best game in the world, but I couldn't get past feeling like I was watching a cartoon for seven year olds. I started IL-2, but the first mission I took kept reminding me to read the manual, study the maps and controls, etc. So I gave up for now. I see that GoG has loads of docs (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/il_2_sturmovik_1946) that you can download, but only if you buy it from them. I'll come back to this, but if anyone knows how to get the docs, it'd be a help. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Segoris on March 31, 2009, 06:43:46 AM I know on some (not sure on all as I just noticed this a few days ago) if you right click a game in your games screen in Steam, you can select the instruction manual. It may work that way for IL-2 as well, worth a shot
Also, I just looked at the game in the Steam store and on the right side, under the metascore and other game/developer info, there are some links. One of the links is for the manual (http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/15320/manual_english.pdf?t=1238504545), hope that helps. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Baldrake on March 31, 2009, 07:04:56 AM Doh, it was right in front of me. Thanks!
Still would like the reference card and the plane guide that is being offered at GoG, but the manual is a good start. Title: Re: Ubisoft week - Weekend - Ubisoft Classic Pack for $9.99 Post by: Engels on March 31, 2009, 07:23:37 AM Being a flight sim, it does have a bit more of a learning curve. Before starting any campaign, mess with the difficulty settings and play a few custom battles, since when you start a campaign it'll lock in the difficulty setting and you can't change it after starting.
