So blizzard emails me that anyone can try wotlk free for ten days.  They neglect to mention you can't level. I enjoyed the quests I had run, maybe I'll try a dk since I can't level.

Wha?  You can't level?  That seems... odd.  I did a trial on my old account and a friend did a new trial, both a month ago, and we could both level normally.

You can't level past 70. Guess they want you buying the expansion or they use the level to flag you. I'm not really sure what to do with the rest of my eight days...

At first it seemed annoying but with more thought it makes sense to me.

Afterall you could(though not easily) hit 80 in ten days. What happens if you decide to NOT buy wotlk? Do they de-level you? Not allowing you to level does indeed suck of course but the only alternatives are either letting players keep whatever levels/new abilities they accrue or retracting them if there is no purchase made.

Of course I could get into a discussion about how every expansion makes all previous expansions mandatory(which is stupid) but with the system they've set in place I can't think of another way to do it that would make sense.

Question: Is exp cut off, or just leveling? (for instance, could I gain a ton of exp, then buy the expansion, and have that exp suddely count).    Or, am I playing with no exp at all.  This next question, of course, then is that if I play test the level 70 areas without gaining exp, but do all the quests, will those quests open back up to me later so that I can quest myway through those zones rather than having to grind out exp to level?

That's exactly the reason given.  If they let you level past level 70 (assuming you have TBC), resub, and not activate WotLK, your character won't work anymore.   prefer to think of WoW's "expansion packs" and different versions of the game, because that's what they really are.

Once you hit the amount of exp needed to reach 80 -1, you stop gaining experience.

Creating a copy of a player selected character and allowing it to level on a different server. Once Wotlk is bought, you get the option to overwrite your existing character with the copied one. Expanding the level cap to 76, allowing the chap to see bolvar get owned.

Makes sense to me.

One thing of note is that they only prevent you from leveling above 70.

Don't fool yourself. If you have at least one 70, and are willing to spend the hours it would take to download WotLK, you're going to be buying it. Especially if you're in a situation to be gaining more than one level in 10 days. You're going to be paying for the expansion anyway, just drop the cash now and get it over with.

Oh I paid. I'm 74 now and just did a scholo speed run for old times sake. The horse dropped.

I hate you so much.  I've run that easily 50x, and no horse yet.

They added a horse drop to scholo?

I ran WC six times straight and not gotten a single piece of the Fang set.  Could have outfit a couple of clothies and mail users fully though.

I guess I really don't care about the horse that much. Ah well.

I need to do more Sethekk runs on my Druid for my birdie mount. :9

I wouldn't care about the mount, except I want the dragonhawk.  As though I'll ever get 100 mounts.   :oh_i_see:
