I hate feral hogs.  They're one of the few animals I'm in favor of nuking from orbit.  Once you have a few breeding escapees it creates a mess.

So I don't know much about hunting and guns, but hunting feral boars with a .223 rifle seems a tad suicidal.  Sure, it may be enough to shoot foxes or scare coyotes, but that seems pretty fucking small to be using against wild pigs.

Not if you are using an AR-15 on full auto!

I would feel safer with a .270 and up.  Head-on and with a .223 it is just going to richocet off or embed in their skull, hide, and bones.  A 300 lb. boar has an incredibly thick hide backed by an inch or more of thick fat.  Barbed-wire fence?  Just ignores it and barrels through.

All those epic tales which start off with a boar hunt?  They did that to show how heroic and epic the hunter was.  It's because the beasts are biological tanks.  Once you piss one off, like say by looking at it, you're a target.  Mean, nasty, incredibly tough beasts.

It's a toss-up on whether I would rather encounter one of the larger bear species or a boar.  (Sows and young hogs are usually going to run, so they don't freak me out as much.  Still having a small herd of ten run out fifty feet from me when I was in an open field and completely ignore me until I fired was very disconcerting.  [I moved to a safe spot before doing so, just in case.])

If they're such a mean death machines, how can you explain that my city has them walking around in dozens during summer and they never hurt anyone. Except, there are dozens of such videos not a single case of boar attack was reported (yet).

Funny thing is, that you hear stories like the one Lantyssa tells you from every boar hunter around the world. Even my uncle who hasn't hold gun in his life told me how feracious, murdering beast boar was and how they needed entire 20 man hunting party to track it down.

By the hunters POV, the guy in video would have need a minigun, fuck, fully armed main battle tank or maybe even an ICBM to save himself.

I guess stories do hold some of truth and boar that never saw a human, (when it's sow protecting young or wounded wild boar) can attack human and be quite good at it, but describing boars as nasty beasts that attack just form glancing is vast over. As is calling boar hunting heroic and epic.
You have numerical advantage, heavy guns, and you're shooting what is essentially a grass eater FFS.

(Not to mention the ubar huntaz who only shot boars from observation posts 10m above ground, cause them boars are, ya know, so deadly dangerous)

Grass eater?  No. They're omnivores and will eat any and everything that comes across their path.  This makes them seen as somewhat of an ecological threat over here.

Maybe because those are 1) sows and 2) raised in proximity to humans?  Pigs are not stupid animals, and if raised with humans can be quite docile.  They make very friendly pets.  Much like feral dogs, because they come from domesticated animals who are now wild, their upbringing determines how well they can do with humans.  A feral pup will do fine compared to a wolf pup.  Same with feral pigs versus a javalina (though javalina are skittish, not aggressive).

You'll note in my last post I said sows and pigletts are not much threat.  I am talking about feral boars.  Pig != boar.

Their omnivore nature isn't so bad in and of itself.  However they prefer grubs, roots, and a great many things which grow just under the soil.  They can cause a massive amount of damage due to their voracious appetites and rooting up the ground.  What they don't eat it, they'll tear up getting at what they do.

There's a reason that boar spears had a crossbar behind the blade, it was to stop the wild boar thrusting itself along the shaft of your spear to gore you to death once you'd stuck it.

Of course it does.  PURE evil, hiding behind cute.

The panda wanted to drag the poor girl off to it's lair,  where it would force her to sew cosplay costumes....

Also, note that one of those adorable evil beings was all up in her food trying to claim it as its own. This may seem like a small point, but when she has no food it only helps further the panda's plan to make her sew as now she's motivated to earn her food.
