Title: Resident Evil 5 Co-Op List
Post by: LK on February 04, 2009, 12:27:18 PM
Why the fuck would you play a game like this by yourself? Come launch day, I want a buddy to go through the game with.

So come on, ye f13 gamers. Let's find some partners and get some Chris / Chris's partner co-op action on Day 1. (Don't know the name of the other girl since I have a habit of viewing as little media / information on "Must Play" titles as possible.

Wait, what's that?

...

Fine, I'll be the chick.

People are dicks?

If you want to play with me, you will need to get the PS3 version.

PS3. And I prefer to play the chick, Chris looks like a goddamned Gears character with hair now.

Damn you people and your PS3s.  I want one, but the wife says no.

Anyone going to be playing the 360 version?

I will be 360 because I am a silly Achievement whore.

I'll be getting it fo sho.

ebgames.com says Friday, March 13.  This is weaker than February's Friday the 13th due to the epoch thing.

PS3 has Trophies now.  Plus the 360 has offended me with its retardation for the last time, so all cross-platforms for me are now going to be PS3.

I'll wait until the inevitable "this game looks worse on  ______ (likely the PS3)".   No hurry to buy now that I've played the demo.  Still, might help to buy it while there's still people here playing it, since my local pool is non-existant.

I currently look at buying a 360 game for marginal visual improvement to be akin to voting for someone because he cut me a $600 check.  He's still a retard and I'm still an idiot.

My disappointment with the demo aside, I'll probably still be picking this up (on the 360).

All other things being equal, why wouldn't you buy whichever version has a marginal visual improvement?

That and the shooters control so much better on 360.

Achievements (Trophies Suck) + Better Controls + Slightly Better Graphics + Friend Invites + Headset = Win!

lol

Leave that achievement/trophy war at the door.

Also, arguing controls for or against either system is so questionable and purely based on button mapping. And slightly better graphics? Man, I have to assume you post on NeoGAF or somewhere where they blow up shit from still frames and actually think it's indicative of something.

The TV it's played on and the handling of vsync is far more important than things being crisper.

Controls for a shooter are instantly better on 360 because the spacing of the analog sticks. The rest I agree is sort of trivial but controls especially for a shooter are always better on 360 for multi-platform games.

If you like offset analog sticks, sure. They drive me fucking batty though. I prefer K+B either way so it's largely irrelevant. Also, the tiny top shoulder buttons on the 360 are UNBEARABLE. Like I said, it's a stupid argument because both controllers have huge issues.

I'll be playing the 360 version. Does anyone know how the co-op works, like I you are on level 5 and I'm on level 1 what happens? I'd to to experience the game from front to back.

Also I tend to play odd hours, late at night etc.

TBH I don't know if I'll care to buy RE5 after the demo, which ate raw ass in terms of controls. That RE4 scheme just doesn't cut it after playing nearly every other console shooter for the system.

If everything else was equal, I would, and historically I got the 360 version of crossplatforms.  This was before Trophies.  Maybe you want to know what the final straw was?  The 360 behaves erratically when assigned a static IP.  Previous straws include:
  • Cannot have simultaneous wireless and wired network configurations
  • No web browser
  • XBL Gold requires subscription
  • Surgery required to use optical sound with HDMI
  • Buying things on XBL is more tedious and confusing than on PSN
  • Controller sucks hobo balls when playing Beautiful Katamari
  • Controllers take AA batteries
  • The D-pad is garbage
  • Reboots itself when switching my TV to (not from) its HDMI signal
  • Does not accept USB disks or SD cards or anything like that
  • Paying a Franklin for a USB wireless network adapter
  • Hard drive not customer upgradeable
  • Proprietary microphone only
  • Unit and peripherals made of garbage, excepting the original white controller

That and the shooters control so much better on 360.

I'm not sure RE5 is a shooter.  That aside, I do prefer the 360 triggers to the Sixaxis/DS3 shoulder buttons.  Those misaligned sticks, however, can jump up J Allard's colon.

Title: Re: Resident Evil 5 Co-Op List

What would make the 360 version any better visually than the PS3?

What would make the 360 version any better visually than the PS3?

In screenshots, the 360 version looks sharper. Ironically, every edge is jagged to hell, but people seem to prefer jaggies to the very very obvious FSAA gel that's going on on the PS3. The textures are all the exact same resolution. In other words, console wars. Nothing actually based in reality because in motion they're virtually identical. Except the 360 version tears and the PS3 version has slight bouts of slowdown.

If we're going on tangible things, I'll take slight slowdown (though, I haven't experienced that myself) to tearing.

I assume if the person on Chapter 5 is hosting the game and you jump in, you'll end up in Chapter 5.  The main thing seems to be that you have to unlock weapons by finding them.  In other words, since you're only on chapter 1, you'll only be able to use the weapons you found in Chapter 1 (or whatever you guys find while playing through Chapter 5).  He can't hand you any weapons that you haven't found, and apparently most guns are unique to specific chapters.  The example that was used in one preview I read is that the writer had missed the shotgun hanging on the wall in one of the early parts of the game, and never found another one (right now most reviewers have access to the first half of the game, or three chapters).  Because he didn't find it, he's not able to purchase one, nor would anybody he plays with be able to give him one.

If your friend on Chapter 5 comes back and plays with you on Chapter 1, he still has access to all the weapons he found in later parts of the game, making things a bit easier.  So basically if you don't want to miss parts of the game, or have someone slightly overpowered making the game easier, it's probably best just to find someone willing to play through from start to finish with you.

It's delicious when you console kiddies turn upon yourselves!

See that? It was green! Srsly, though, I can't wait for the day when a multi-platform game can support multiplayer across all the platforms they release for. Cocksucking lazy devs!

It's a pretty good game, especially when, nearing the end, enemies start dropping jewels and it goes kinda full Gears. Game lasts about 10 hours.

Do play with a partner, even if through split screen. Having to order the black to keep picking things up and managing inventory causes acute pain in the dropped ovaries.

Tried playing RE4 after finishing this, Kennedy controls like shit.

Played some offline co-op today at a friends. Decent game but god do i hate the controls. I didn't remember the "stand still to shoot" thing because it's been a while since I've played a RE title, but now it gets under my skin.

Special rules for console games that don't exist for mmorpgs. That seems a bit petty, doesn't it?

Truth be told, I'm kind of baffled at MMORPG discussion in general.

As someone who is not an explicit fan of the series, I was not terribly impressed by the game.

Solid, yes, but did not blow my mind or surprise me at all. Even with online co-op, I was almost bored at times. I didn't find the story to be all that interesting, and the shooting bits were mediocre at best.

Graphics were nice.

The mediocre shooting is a staple of the RE series. Once you get the hang of it, especially the quick-turn, shooting becomes a non factor. I think if anything, being able to move and shoot is the only problem I have with the game. But, like I said above, co-op makes the game fun for me. Maybe you're getting rusty, Straz.

Title: Re: Resident Evil 5 Co-Op List
Post by: Hindenburg on March 19, 2009, 12:00:20 PM
In all truth, in this one you're expected to shoot them in the limbs and then rush in for the melee attack. If playing co-op and your partner throws a follow-up melee after yours, that move will deal, by itself, 3000 dmg.

Also, shooting them in the leg, running to their back and hitting X = instant kill.

Title: Re: Resident Evil 5 Co-Op List
Post by: Strazos on March 19, 2009, 05:15:14 PM
Oh yes, I know about the melee supermoves and such, which were amusing. Some of it was just lame, like the guys you decap, but then sprout giant tentacles and shit. After wasting entire mp5 clips on them, I just said fuck it and tossed nades.

The mine tunnel was interesting, though.

It's by no means a poor game, but I don't personally believe the hype is warranted.

And no, Nixel, I'm not getting rusty (though it IS on a damn gamepad). Aiming was not a problem.

They die with a single flash grenade.

You can also  hit them with the stun rod, 1 hit kill.

Not so for the later half of the game. I ditched it so I could wear the bullet proof vest.
