Title: Taken Post by: Nerf on February 02, 2009, 08:04:52 AM Saw it last night, loved it. Violent and gritty but not much gore, great plot and nonstop action. Go see this in the theater, and then buy it when it hits blu-ray.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Merusk on February 02, 2009, 08:55:20 AM All I can think of when I see the ads for it is, "Hey, Man On Fire with a white guy." It still looks pretty entertaining, though.

You mean like the original Man on Fire, starring Scott Glen? :oh_i_see: Title: Re: Taken Post by: shiznitz on February 02, 2009, 02:34:54 PM "Hey, Man On Fire with a white guy" Then you missed the best parts of Man On Fire. Title: Re: Taken Post by: WindupAtheist on February 02, 2009, 05:14:56 PM Saw this pirated online months ago. Great flick, plan to see it in the theater here.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: ahoythematey on February 03, 2009, 12:27:23 AM I liked it. It was pretty violent for a PG-13 movie; just another example of how grossly nebulous the MPAA rating system is anymore.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Fabricated on February 04, 2009, 03:47:31 AM The daughter is a terrible actor and the setup portion getting to the non-stop Payback-esque killing is bad. A pony, really?

The daughter was beyond terrible. And I think Lucas ruined Liam Neeson for me for all of time. I kept wanting it to be Clive Owen and I kept wanting the girl to be Alison Lonham 5 years ago. Title: Re: Taken Post by: Rendakor on February 05, 2009, 10:27:19 AM The daughter is a terrible actor and the setup portion getting to the non-stop Payback-esque killing is bad. A pony, really? I agree, I thought the 'Zomg no I don't want my daughter going overseas' drama was a bit much as well.Title: Re: Taken Post by: stu on February 05, 2009, 11:13:06 AM I haven't seen Taken yet, but this clip from a review at http://www.mnftiu.cc/ (Get Your War on) made me chuckle after reading opinions here:
Quote LOL, a game you can play when you see this movie: When Liam Neeson shows up at his daughter’s 17th birthday party (being held at his ex-wife’s new lover’s sprawling mansion) and gives her the cheap-ass karaoke machine he’s been doing product-research on for weeks, and she hugs him … and then turns around to see her (swarthy) stepfather leading a pony onto the yard, and she runs over and hugs her stepfather and jumps on the pony and the stepfather stands there looking down his nose at Liam Neeson, yell out: “I’M CONFUSED: WHICH MAN AM I SUPPOSED TO SYMPATHIZE WITH?!?” Title: Re: Taken Post by: LK on February 05, 2009, 01:24:50 PM Sounds formulaic. I thought the trailer was compelling though with that whole "I will FUCK YOU UP" speech.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: WindupAtheist on February 10, 2009, 01:53:27 PM It's fun if you like "fucked with the wrong guy" movies. It's also doing pretty well at the box office. Opened with $24 million, then did $20 million in the second weekend. A dropoff that small bodes well, especially since it's already made $70 million overseas. I can't find a budget for it, but it's safe to say it would have been soundly profitable even if it never came to the US at all.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: DraconianOne on February 10, 2009, 04:19:43 PM I can't find a budget for it About $40m. Where did you get your overseas box office info? (Genuine question - I only have UK box office figures and would like to see breakdown for other territories) Title: Re: Taken Post by: WindupAtheist on February 10, 2009, 08:41:45 PM This has been my #1 source for box office info since forever:
http://boxofficemojo.com/ Can look up movies, look up actors and see what they've grossed, etc. Title: Re: Taken Post by: daryy on February 10, 2009, 09:19:04 PM Sure! I find movies, actors and see what they've grossed from your website

Surprised to see that it did very well in South Korea. Who knew? Title: Re: Taken Post by: Samwise on February 13, 2009, 11:20:24 AM I saw this yesterday. I was entertained.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: stray on February 16, 2009, 08:56:58 PM Cool flick. Don't see how one could begin disliking Nesson, Lucas films or not. He's the white Morgan Freeman. He can do no wrong.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: WindupAtheist on February 17, 2009, 06:26:13 PM Did $19 million in it's third weekend. Showing incredible staying power, declining only 6 or 7 percent per weekend thus far. At about $77 million domestic already, it'll probably do well past $100 million.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Der Helm on February 19, 2009, 03:13:21 PM It is called "96 hours" in Germany. Confused me a little bit.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Evildrider on March 10, 2009, 01:07:12 AM Finally saw this. Not a bad movie. I've never found Liam Neeson a great actor, but he was decent here.
The daughter wasn't that bad really.. she acted like a spoiled 17 year old would. Also I kept on thinking.. i know her from somewhere.. where is it. Bugged me the entire movie, then I got home and saw her on the cover of my Lost season 1 box. Title: Re: Taken Post by: stray on March 10, 2009, 01:47:28 AM Ah, that's right. The spoiled blonde.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: WindupAtheist on March 10, 2009, 11:34:21 AM It's up to $117 million and STILL sitting at #3 at the box office.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: rk47 on May 02, 2009, 04:10:37 AM Saw it yesterday. Couldn't get a ticket for Wolverine and felt it's worth it. The plot isn't gonna surprise many but the delivery felt RIGHT. Although I must admit theres a lack of blood or so, the intent to hurt definitely hits the spot.
basic summary: retired security specialist, divorced dad loses daughter to kidnappers, goes on rampage to get her back. the sound quality is pretty bad on this recording but this is probably the intro that the char ever needed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y_Wu36wIEM Title: Re: Taken Post by: NiX on May 03, 2009, 08:56:00 PM Apparently, not sure if this is true, but the US version has a part cut out of the torture scene. Instead of driving nails into the guys knees, he just attaches the jumper cables to the chair. The nails were made it so much better.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Draegan on May 05, 2009, 01:02:16 PM Just saw the movie a week ago. I thought it was awesome.

Title: Re: Taken Post by: Trippy on May 16, 2009, 09:42:22 PM Apparently, not sure if this is true, but the US version has a part cut out of the torture scene. Instead of driving nails into the guys knees, he just attaches the jumper cables to the chair. The nails were made it so much better. The US "extended cut" version on DVD has the nails :ye_gods: :awesome_for_real:The (US) theatrical cut does indeed just have him clipping the cables to the metal arms of the chair. Title: Re: Taken Post by: Slyfeind on May 17, 2009, 02:00:17 AM Just got it on DVD. Damn fine movie. I thought the daughter was just right. I mean, she's a giggly teenager, it's not fucking King Lear or some shit.
That torture scene was intense. Heh. I'm glad I went straight for the unrated version. Towards the end, I suddenly realized how much blood wasn't in the movie. I'll bet they put a bunch of blood in it so they could get an "R" rating, then say "How about if we cut the blood out? Will you give us PG-13?" Title: Re: Taken Post by: K9 on January 13, 2011, 08:24:27 AM Slight necro, finally got around to watching it on DVD.
The general consensus of me and the housemates was :awesome_for_real: This movie is a lot of fun, and a genuinely good way to kill an evening. Title: Re: Taken Post by: WayAbvPar on January 13, 2011, 09:54:17 AM I dug it. Felt rushed, but it was a fun ride.
Title: Re: Taken Post by: Merusk on October 25, 2011, 06:57:16 PM Just watched this finally. The only disappointing part was that Liam didn't say "fuck off" in response to the ex's "thank you."
Title: Re: Taken Post by: rk47 on October 26, 2011, 09:12:51 PM That should've been the father I sought after he left Vault 101. Not this bullshit 'Let's purify water and shit'

Title: Re: Taken Post by: pants on October 27, 2011, 01:51:43 PM I've always thought they should have added one of those sub-titles to this movie.
Taken : Liam Neeson goes to Paris and kills everyone. |
