Title: American Gangster
Post by: HaemishM on January 31, 2009, 09:42:36 AM
I did not know this was a Ridley Scott film before I watched it, and nothing in the movie made me think it was (i.e. his usual visual style did not overwhelm the movie). This was a great, great crime biopic, totally worth watching for Denzel alone. Throw in a bunch of great performances by bigger names in smaller roles and Russell Crowe with his usual good performance, and...

Fuck it. Just watch it. It's a worthwhile way to spend 3 hours.

The highlight for me is pointing out areas during the movie in the 41 precinct where I worked...and then driving by them the next day with my wife. Also a couple of neighborhood shots near our upper west side apartment after you come over into NYC from NJ on the GW bridge.

Decent movie.

A great movie about successfully marketing a product in a competitive space.

I liked this movie, it's long but doesn't drag at any point. Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe both put in excellent performances.

Watched this last night off of On Demand, it was free.  It was a pretty good movie, well shot, not too much steady cam, reasonably realistic stuff for normal humans to actually have done.  Denzel gives a really good performance, Crowe was good too.

It was intriguing enough that I went and looked up the true stories of all the principles on wiki.

Necro!

I watched this recently - the extended edition. I found it was a good movie overall, but it did drag quite a bit for me. Maybe it's because it was the extended edition rather than the regular. Ridley Scott and the writer's commentary track are very interesting, though. More interesting in many ways than the film.
