It can be. The Nazi Zombies 'scenario' has you holed up in a wrecked house fighting off ever increasing waves of, uh, Nazi Zombies. Can be kinda fun co-op.

I find it funny that a mainstream news site has embedded youtube videos of "How to make an effective zombie escape plan" and "Bush finds new threat in Zombies".

No, whats funny is they say "Hackers" did this...when all you have to do is open the dam box and type in ON THE KEYPAD what you want it to say.

"They hacked into the signs",  :oh_i_see:  No they fucking didn't.

Hacker: Someone that knows something1 so well, that they can bend that thing to do something-else2 (of value3 and innovative4) that the original something1 was not originally designed to do.

Hack: Evidence as a product of a hacker that demonstrates the definition, "hacker."

Hacking: The active demonstration of a hack.

something1: Skill, tool, system, etc.
something-else2: New Solution, new purpose, new result
value3: "Value" to someone. Proof-of-concept is of value. Education is of value. Somethign that can be sold (product or skill or work) is of value.
innovative4: not previously demonstrated, known to have been demonstrated, or demonstrated by someone else.

*shrug* It depends on the definition of hacking you use. Sort of like calling script kiddies hackers.

The term 'hacker' is being used in a pejorative anti-intellectual manner in that piece. Its akin to British tabloids using 'boffin' or thicko Alaskan politicians using the term 'elitist'.

But they may have used a hacksaw to cut the lock!

I mean this with nothing but the utmost respect for something I am assuming is made in North America, but have these signs ever really communicated something that people could not figure out just by looking ahead?

The ones that tell you such-and-such road is going to be closed on some obscure date in the future? At least it lets you know to bypass that area I guess..

Mostly they protect against liability when someone ignores the sign and gets in a wreck.

Do you honestly remember that two weeks from now between 7pm and 11am on a weekend that the on ramp will be closed?

Usually the big orange cones, flashing lights and do not enter signs on the actual day are enough for me.  If not that, then the workers screaming at me as I careen through the cones and on to their picnic site are enough to make me realize that the road in front of me may be off limits.

I can believe that this is a liability issue though, so when someone calls to complain the department can say that they posted a notice months in advance rather than telling the person to fuck off.

Yes.  A ramp down in this city means an extra hour or two on the road (sitting in traffic), depending on what time I'm traveling.  I've used those signs and planned around them.

That said, usually news radio and TV news does a better job updating road/ramp closings in the mornings.
