Title: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: Engels on January 27, 2009, 10:09:21 AM Anyone interested in this game? I never played the first one, but played the multiplayer freebie they had a few years back. At the time, I thought it was a good shooter, if the maps were a bit cramped. I've heard that this time they're emphasising story more, and incorporating mechs. Ghost girl vs Mechs. How can this fail?
Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: Sky on January 27, 2009, 11:08:53 AM I'll probably give it a pass. I enjoyed FEAR but I think straight-up shooters are just too one-dimensional for me. But as far as FPS goes, FEAR met one of my main requirements: fun and adaptable enough to play through an area multiple times to try different things.
Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: Tarami on January 27, 2009, 11:15:34 AM I tried the demo. The endless flickering lights and shaky cam, along with the forced widescreen mode with unnecessary drivel around the edges, pissed me off so much that I didn't get farther than 15 minutes into it. I recall the first FEAR as a little scary, but this was just frustrating.
Really, there's a point where you paraphrase Danny Glover and just go "fuck it, I'm too old for this shit." Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: Yegolev on January 27, 2009, 11:28:16 AM I will probably get it even though I can't work on such games with the wife and boy in the house.
Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: Baldrake on January 30, 2009, 04:02:29 PM I tried the demo and really liked it. It has far more variety than the original FEAR, which mainly took place in a concrete office block. I was chortling when I got to climb into a mech and start blasting away like crazy.
The one (big!) caveat is that the game at times brought my quad core, 4870 gpu system to its knees. Now that's a feat. Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: apocrypha on January 31, 2009, 01:19:04 AM Definitely interested in this, but going to wait until there's plenty of decent reviews (preferably on this board, heh) before getting it. Loved FEAR, enjoyed the scary a lot and have a special place in my gaming heart for the ending.
Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: rattran on January 31, 2009, 12:23:00 PM I was interested, but the demo crashes on my machine in Vista and Win7. Guess I'll give it a miss.

Also, I should install and play FEAR. Probably next, after I finish the clusterfuck that Far Cry 2 has become... Now that's a feat. Odd. I cranked everything up to maximum and the only hitches I found were the load points that cause about a 1/4 second delay. FWIW, Q6600 OC'd to 3.2Ghz, 8800GTS(G92) in SLI, and 4GB of RAM. Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: NiX on January 31, 2009, 10:20:43 PM Odd. ATITitle: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: SnakeCharmer on January 31, 2009, 10:25:18 PM I thought the new ATI's were supposed to be on par or better than the Nvidia equivalents?
Title: Re: F.E.A.R. 2 demo up Post by: rattran on February 01, 2009, 08:25:34 AM Depends all on which one the game is optimized for. And if one of the companies got early access to tweak their drivers.
