A MMO where you are a game hunter. (http://www.huntersworldonline.com/) It's in alpha. :oh_i_see: Only found out about this because Capcom have signed up with Monumental to release a MMO. Quote When it's Full Moon they could change several animals into "Undeads". In this way you create a rare animal-list. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Ookii on January 22, 2009, 09:38:02 AM And the "kill 10 rabbits" quests continue.

Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Slyfeind on January 22, 2009, 11:41:52 AM Oh crap, this looks awesome, just because I grew up in Alaska and now I live in Seattle and there's not crap for outdoorsy stuff here IRL. >_< I'm particularly interested in how they portray the game world. If it's a seamless environment, with camps and a small rural village to restock and upgrade, I'll be all over it. If it's instanced arenas, not so much.

Well if it's the arenas i hope the deer get rpg launchers to even the odds.Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: UnSub on January 22, 2009, 05:59:33 PM I'm giggling at the griefing potential of running around, firing my gun into the air wildly to scare off the wildlife. Take that hunters!
Or at the idea of MMO players getting bored with the title because the mobs don't fight back. Honestly, I just don't get it. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Trippy on January 22, 2009, 06:22:57 PM Honestly, I just don't get it. Deer Hunter is not for you :awesome_for_real:But seriously Deer Hunter, the franchise, has sold 10 million copies which is more than many other FPS franchises including DOOM. It's related to the same phenomenon that has the Ford F-150 as the best selling passenger vehicle year after year after year in this country. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: UnSub on January 22, 2009, 07:02:30 PM I know: this MMO is not for me.
However, I think it could be fascinating if it works. A MMO where the mobs are scared by you and a major point will be to move slowly and carefully so as to get the best shot? Works completely against MMO standards. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Trippy on January 22, 2009, 07:06:54 PM I know: this MMO is not for me. There are MMOs with "stealth" roles, such as PlanetSide, that have similar gameplay elements. However, I think it could be fascinating if it works. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Slyfeind on January 23, 2009, 08:16:18 AM Yeah, what's weird is everybody will be playing a "stealth" class. I can see the fun wearing off before the trial period ends, if they do have a trial period. Then people will either get bored and quit playing, or start doing really really weird stuff.
Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Lantyssa on January 23, 2009, 09:43:23 AM This won't be a gaming demographic playing though. These are people who will sit for five hours in one spot waiting for a single animal to pass by.
The mechanics and player behavior will be a lot different than what you would see in other MMOs. This will be one of those alternative games which isn't for us that Darniaq keeps bringing up. Really, it's more likely to be an interactive woodland simulator than a game. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Murgos on January 23, 2009, 09:57:31 AM Deer Hunter sold how many millions of units? That's the market they're after.

I agree with the WoW-killer title...if only they can figure out how to monetize it in a way that the average hunter will buy into. I don't see that being easy, given the model of single player hunting sims. The second biggest mistake they could make is making it anything like an mmo in the sense we know them (eh, diku, whatever). I'm wary of Capcom's involvement.
I disagree with Lantyssa, though. It's for some of us. Then again, most games you guys like aren't for me...so I guess the claim stands! :why_so_serious: I think a game where you try to track some animals through the woods sounds like a great exploring type game. Include a light gun rifle ftw. With a monitor in the scope. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: Lantyssa on January 23, 2009, 01:23:54 PM The 'for us' was as a whole. For every game out there we have a few people who will play it.

I agree with the WoW-killer title...if only they can figure out how to monetize it in a way that the average hunter will buy into. Easy: Contests and random prizes for hunting/fishing equipment and exotic hunting vacations, sponsored tie-ins for in-game advertising (think +5% kill rate for using Remington rifles and Federal ammo).--Dave Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: schild on January 23, 2009, 08:37:36 PM I signed up for the beta. Title: Re: Hunter's World: Because at least one person might be interested Post by: UnSub on January 23, 2009, 09:01:20 PM As a clarification - to my knowledge, Hunter's World is independent of the Capcom deal. Capcom have signed up with Monumental to release an entirely separate MMO (http://www.digitalbattle.com/2009/01/21/capcom-publishing-monumental-mmo/) based on a Capcom IP.
