Title: Crippling Lag
Post by: MrHat on November 23, 2004, 10:47:20 PM
Go ahead.

Commence w/ the Itoldyouso's.

Servers are in all essence shut down because of the EXACT same lag they  had in the first ST.  That crazy database shit.

Lovely.

Yeah it's really bad.

Everyone has been frozen for the last 15-20 minutes on Cenarius.

It's unfortunate.  I was hoping Blizzard would pull off a smooth launch but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Me too.  I made a char on 2 different servers, both PvP, but they were so busy I couldn't handle it.  Made a char on Rasix's server (forget the name), PvE, medium population, lagged for about 15 minutes, complete lack of any interaction except for  chat and it finally crashed.  I wasn't sorry to see it go.

Not the smoothest launch I've seen.

EDIT:  Cenarius!  That's the one!

I can read it, but can't post.  Everytime I try and log in, it tells me the login server is down.  Other people don't seem to have any problem posting, though.

Yup and now Steam seems to be down so I can't fricking finish downloading HL2 to my machine. WTG Valve.

Edit: Okay so the Steam network didn't go down but something on my Steam install got messed up when I tried to run HL2 and it hung and was forced to reboot my machine. I had to delete and reinstall Steam and now it seems to be working again.

Lucky for me I'm on EST and I went to bed fairly early (10:30 pm). I managed to miss that West Coast prime time. But even toward the end of my night, the loot and quest lag had started to rear its ugly head again. Think they'll hard cap the servers to fix it? Or do you think it'll be alleviated once people start gaining levels and moving throughout the world over the next couple weeks? I think the influx of new players isn't going to slow for a good few weeks yet so we may be looking at a lot of lag if they can't find a solution. Also, what will this do for large-scale PvP?  WoW.exe crashes?

Argent Dawn was OK this morning, except for one 3-minute bout of loot lag.

I was something like #800 in the queue last night at 10 pm CST. Of course, I was on a Central PVP server. Got on for literally 5 minutes after an hour of wait, got two quests and was subsequently dropped to the character screen and unable to login.

Why am I not surprised?

What is it with you people? Read the writing on the wall. The Central PvP servers are a joke. Either put the game down and play there later or pick up another server. It's not Blizzard's fault every dumbass is spamming the same four servers.

I don't necessarily need to be on a Central server, but it's the only one where I'd have a guild. I'd move, but it probably isn't a good idea to move to another PvP server without a friend or more.

My only alternative to Central right now is to move to a normal server and solo, but what's the point?

No problems with my character on the Pacific RP server.

My other character is on a Mountain PvP, and it was very smooth going for a couple hours, then lag really set in bad, became unplayable.

I'm patient though, I'm sure the situation will improve.

The lag appears to come and go.   Got in about 4-5 hours of gameplay last night just fine, then around 9pm things hit the shitter for 20 mins, with the server crashing soon afterwards.    This morning, about 2 hrs just fine, then a lag boucoup dessert that forced me to log out a few minutes ago.

The pattern suggests to me that this lag is either being caused by a spontaious bug, or some jerkwads out there who figured out how to sabotage the game for everyobdy.   Not just raw population alone.

I've been wondering what HRose has been up to.

You expected them to fix things?

Don't want to move.  Already have 18 hours played :(

I'd say that if you can manage 18 hours of play, you're doing okay. It's pretty much a lottery anyhow - if you move, so will a bazillion other sheep, and you'll all be cussing each other on another server.

However, I'm setting up base camp on a server. Tempted to do the new Eastern RP server, but possibly the lamest sounding normal would be better. That would be Llane. I figure that it will attract a load of Welshmen, so there could also be a comedic future there.

It means the server cap is too low, nitwit.

Ya don't say?

I'm just saying it's a shitload of servers. More than I've seen at least.
