Title: Outlander Post by: Velorath on January 17, 2009, 01:30:27 AM So I'm sure many of you remember the Viking Sci-Fi movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qv0eTObFEN0&eurl=http://outlander-trailer.blogspot.com/) from the old Box Office thread. I think it's safe to say that not many of us were really expecting any sort of US theatrical release. You can imagine my surprise then when I got some trailers and posters in this week, and some e-mails essentially telling me "you're booked to start showing this on the 23rd, so you've got about a week to promote it". Apparently it's only going to be in limited release, but if for whatever reason if you've been wanting to see this, keep an eye out next week.

I forgot about this one but I want. Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Velorath on January 19, 2009, 05:37:38 PM Next week as in this one? I forgot about this one but I want. Yes, this Friday (the 23rd). Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Nerf on January 19, 2009, 07:09:03 PM Is this playing anywhere outside of Vegas?
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: stu on January 19, 2009, 07:20:11 PM Here's the list of cities from what seems to be the official site:
Nothing from Las Vegas there. Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Nerf on January 19, 2009, 07:30:29 PM movietickets/moviefone both show it opening in vegas and only vegas on the 23rd. I might have to make a trip to Dallas to see it this weekend though, as it might pull a War, Inc. and go straight to DVD.

I might have to make a trip to Dallas to see it this weekend though, as it might pull a War, Inc. and go straight to DVD. Monday afternoon is usually when my theater receives its final bookings for the coming Friday, at which point we come up with our movie showtimes. Depending on when we finish the schedule, they typically won't show up online or on things like moviefone until Tuesday. This holds true for a lot of theaters. Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Broughden on January 22, 2009, 12:44:58 PM Fandango has no info I can find on where its actually opening. The movies website is less than useful in this regard as well. If I gave two shits about openings in India it might be useful...but I dont care.

Fucking vikings and dragons and aliens! I must see this! Grrrrrr. Nerd rage! :drill: Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Samwise on January 30, 2009, 11:56:37 AM I saw this last night. I enjoyed it. I kind of wish they'd played around a bit more with the notion of this being the origin of the Beowulf story (which they were obviously going for), but the nods they did have in there were good.
Still waiting for a movie that depicts iron weaponry in a remotely accurate fashion. Bah! If they'd done it right in the earlier parts of the movie, the "we need better metal" bit later would have been much cooler. Ron Perlman was in it far too briefly. Loved the Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Oban on February 07, 2009, 12:04:11 PM Not a bad movie, needed a sex scene though.
The special effects were nice, but the ending left much to be desired. As well, so the hero commits genocide and then decides to finish the job... that kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Samwise on February 07, 2009, 04:04:16 PM It's not like he had any other great options. It was either that or take off and let Grendel and its brood eat everyone on Earth.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Oban on February 07, 2009, 04:07:51 PM He could have transported them off world by using his Macgyver-esque design skills.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: stray on February 11, 2009, 02:20:02 AM Not bad, I agree. Besides Beowulf/Aliens/Pitch Black/what have you, this also reminds me of a Ray Liotta movie made a while back, called No Escape. Can't explain why. Same feel to it, I guess. Very different plot though.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Broughden on March 16, 2009, 08:35:34 AM This never came to Louisville from what I can tell. I am disappointed.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Evildrider on March 16, 2009, 10:24:48 AM Torrent it. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: gryeyes on March 16, 2009, 12:18:04 PM Movie is good shit but it seems kind of disjointed. The side plot with Ron perlman was sort of pointless. I really liked the special effects and the scene where he is swimming down to the sunken ship.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: apocrypha on April 10, 2009, 12:20:51 AM Watched this the other night. Thought it was utter dross. Badly scripted, terribly acted (WTF was John Hurt doing?), awful plot. The only decent thing in it was that the monsters looked kinda cool.
1/10, would not watch again. Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Samwise on April 11, 2009, 08:38:43 AM Apocrypha, I think you're my new movie barometer. Based on your last several posts I think we have exactly opposite tastes, so henceforth I'm going to watch stuff you hate and avoid stuff you like.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: apocrypha on April 11, 2009, 09:08:39 AM Haha excellent :awesome_for_real:
We've got a couple of close friends like that - everything they rave about we hate and everything we love they fall asleep in. Makes us all laugh :) Title: Re: Outlander Post by: schild on April 11, 2009, 09:19:33 AM I only made it halfway through Outlander. It's just weird. At times, pretty, but mostly just poop.

Based on your last several posts I think we have exactly opposite tastes, so henceforth I'm going to watch stuff you hate and avoid stuff you like. Just thought, odd coincidence, my real name is Sam and my parents (hippies that they were) have claimed that they named me after Samwise Gamgee but that the registrar either misheard them or thought it was an inappropriate name and changed it to Samuel without their knowledge. Maybe you and I are some kind of weird fictionally-linked opposites. If your real name is Apocrypha then, well, you've got parents who are more bonkers than mine :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Samwise on April 11, 2009, 11:27:48 PM My real name is Sam as well. Do you by any chance have an evil goatee?
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: apocrypha on April 12, 2009, 12:11:04 AM No, do you? If so, I keep an eye on you (http://darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0039.html).
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Samwise on April 12, 2009, 08:31:09 AM Not currently. I was thinking you might be my evil doppelganger from another universe.
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: apocrypha on April 12, 2009, 10:56:11 PM This is starting to sound like it belongs in the f13.net EPYC :why_so_serious:
Title: Re: Outlander Post by: Margalis on April 13, 2009, 12:05:12 AM Vaguely related I actually liked the Christopher Lambert Beowulf movie quite a bit, not sure if that was the version someone mentioned above.
