Title: Mainstream media writes about an MMO that isn't WoW Post by: IainC on December 23, 2008, 01:42:05 AM (although they do mention it in the header despite the research being about an entirely different game...)
Gamer stereotypes are sometimes wrong! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7796482.stm) Who knew? Title: Re: Mainstream media writes about an MMO that isn't WoW Post by: apocrypha on December 23, 2008, 02:07:10 AM Slightly iffy of them to extrapolate from a survey of players from just one game though. But then it is the BBC, hardly a bastion of quality journalism.
Still, at least they didn't mention Second Life :why_so_serious: Title: Re: Mainstream media writes about an MMO that isn't WoW Post by: DraconianOne on December 23, 2008, 02:09:43 AM Hold on:
Quote The participants, who were recruited directly out of the game, completed a web-based questionnaire about their gaming habits and lifestyles... It found that the most hard-core players are female, that gamers are healthier than average, and that game playing is an increasingly social activity. Despite gaming being seen as a male activity, female players now make up about 40% of the gaming population... the survey revealed an unusually high level of bisexuality among the women who took part in the study - over five times higher than the general population. Quote Another unexpected finding was that the online game players - particularly the women - were healthier than the general population MMORPG - Mostly Men Online Role Playing Girls. They're lying on the questionnaires too! :why_so_serious: |
