Title: Majel Barret dead
Post by: Merusk on December 18, 2008, 06:40:49 PM
I'm surprised there's no post, you guys disappoint! -9 geekcred.

Seems she had Leukemia (http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_11263728?nclick_check=1) which I didn't know.  With her passing, perhaps the franchise can end with the movie.

It seemed like an exotic name.  I thought, "Poet?  Author maybe?"  And then I went to Wikipedia and learned that this only matters to Star Trek nerds.

"The widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is best remembered as the gorgeous Nurse Christine Chapel from the original series, the pesky and officious Lwaxana Troi from The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, and of course the ubiquitous voice of Star Trek computers in movies, TV, and animated films."

She also had a role on an episode of B5.

What a shame, everything she did, she did well.

Sucks that she's gone, the ST computer voice will never be the same.  At least she was able to do the new movie before she passed.

She did a great job with Star Trek.  Warp speed good lady.

Smart money would have had her recording large amounts of computer dialog.  Then again, how much computer dialog do you need?

New computer voice should be Clive Owen.

I say Paul Reubens. He needs work.
