Title: Festivus '08: It's that time again.

You know what to do, motherfuckers.

WHERE'S YOUR GAME, LUM?

Title: Re: Festivus '08: It's that time again.
Post by: schild on December 18, 2008, 09:06:58 AM
Apparently Ahoy did not know what to do. Nor did he use skills of deduction to figure out that Lum can't just willy nilly post about a project from his prior job - a project they likely own.

As such, here's one of my grievances:

Ahoy nearly fucked up this thread on the first response. Goddamnit. Well-played.

Since when did Festivus have to be rational?  The question stands!

sam, an eggplant for being a complete asshole to his employees (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=15577.msg565743#msg565743), and for not realizing his self-evident truths have a sampling bias (http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=15577.msg565805#msg565805).

Sony for refusing to open up the RSX chip in the PS3. Sony AND Microsoft for trying to saddle people with poor video streaming protocols due to being overly concerned with DRM, making me STILL unable to replace my XBMC with the next generation console.

Whoever convinced the populace to accept commercials in front of movies after the movie start time.

I'm going to make a preemptive grievance against the dumb motherfuckers that are going to put in this thread a list of things they hate.  You're doing it wrong and making me angry.

Teenage suicide, don't do it.

Title: Re: Festivus '08: It's that time again.
Post by: schild on December 18, 2008, 09:40:21 AM
Well, to be fair, traditionally, f13 festivus is a list of things people hate. We celebrate festivus in our own special way here.

I'm pissed off at the motherfuckers at Grant Thornton who brought in 20 of us to an office visit, set out business cards with our names on them, gave us calculators, talked about how it was our turn to see how they are as a company and get to know them better.

Then, they hired 2 full-time people. Fuck you, Grant Thornton. Bringing in that many people and bumping up their hopes the whole way is a bullshit way of recruiting. You are now on my shit-list for anybody who asks.

I'll help carry that grievance, then.

You fuckheads have the potential to be viewed by anybody in the world, the power to truly inspire people and help them move into the future with nothing harder than clicking on a link, and what do you do?  You make endless top-ten lists, and you can't even be bothered to fucking fact-check your sources before posting stupid, incorrect bullshit.

I think of all this wasted potential, and I feel overcome with disappointment.

I hate the enormous african american woman who walked out in front of my moving car then stood there.  FUCKING STOOD THERE.  Staring at me and shaking her head.  This carried on for about 40 seconds.

Whoa pal. Don't preach to the choir. The online media linked to the recruitment thread, not this one. Which reminds me, I have to do my best of 2008 post. HAHAHA.

No seriously, fuck you for clumping us in with them. You have NO FUCKING CLUE how angry i am with the online media today. So much so that when my time runs out at Giant Realm (which has a date by the way), I'm done with it. Fuck them. The entire fucking clownshoes community of hacks and assholes. They are _useless_ and add nothing to the internet. Leeches on goddamn society.

It's an industry made for people with little to no marketable skills. I'm not calling myself a paragon, but I just don't want to ever be called a colleague by any of them. I am _disgusted_ with them now. Beyond them just covering bad games. It's much more than that now. I want a street brawl.

I hate the medical industry and what it has been shaped into by the insurance companies.  I broke my toe severely (badly enough my ortho was impressed), was in major pain, and drugged out of what little of my mind was left and they wanted me to navigate some byzentine system to make appointments so that my insurance would cover it.  The week leading up to my surgery was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life.  The only reason I didn't flip out and hurt someone was because I was too crippled to catch anyone.

Fuck you, Mark Jacobs, for taking an interesting IP and a good concept (oRVR) and being too goddamn myopic to see what was wrong with Warhammer Online. The first 16 levels were fun and then your guys just shit all over the game with their complete lack of ability to think of doing anything else but endlessly repeating the same fucking motions we've just been going through. Also, fuck you for level 26 Witch Hunters not getting any new ability after having to grind through the shit shit shitty PVE to get there.

Also, fuck Paul Barnett in his tiny little earhole for all those video blogs, especially the one where he threw code under the bus for the RVR contribution fuckup.

Fuck insurance companies on GP.

Fuck the stock market, investment bankers, and really bankers of all stripes. You've all graduated from the Raging Douchebag Academy with Cocksucker Emeritus degrees. CDO's my fucking ass.

Fuck house flippers for turning the mortgage concept into a get rich quick pump and dump scam.

Fuck American CEO's for being complete wastes of space.

Fuck 3rd party Wii developers for shoveling the most irritating pile of shit at us since the 3do's useless launch lineup.

Fuck EA Sports for being completely incapable of making a sports game on the Wii worth a rat fuck.

Fuck Lucasarts for being incapable of making a Wii lightsaber dueling game with motion controls on the Wii. I mean, how fucking hard a concept is that to get - you could practically print money off the nerdgasms if you get it right, and you fuck it up. Quicktime event boss fights? REALLY?

Fuck the Dodgers for sweeping my Cubs.

Fuck you, Green Bay Packers' defense for not being able to stop the run.

All you bitches owe me this year.

Fucking insurance companies and capitalistic medical industry. You know what's fucking more american citizens and businesses and public sector organizations than anything else? THAN ANYTHING ELSE? The burden of healthcare is crushing everyone, and even those with decent insurance are getting fucked. So we've got a system that is crushingly expensive for employers and employees, doesn't adequately cover costs, adding to the expense for employees, and it adds a layer of bureaucracy that at best slows thing to a mind-numbing grind and at worst KILLS PEOPLE.

You know why my job is at risk, why we can't hire new employees, why we've had a hiring freeze for years now, and this year salary freezes? Healthcare costs. And we can't afford them because the state and county keep cutting our budget due to healthcare costs.

Also, legalize the fucking weed, for fuck's sake. I don't want to break the law, but I'd like to smoke a fucking joint in my living room on sunday morning playing Fallout3.

Also, fuck Bush and Cheney and all their incompetent to downright traitorously evil henchmen. You guys make me fervently hope the christians are correct, so you will burn for eternity in a lake of fire.

Ok, I think that's it for now. I don't have enough steam to get into wall street and their mirrors of wealth generation.

Insurance companies and the American healthcare system.

Bailouts.

Alright, fuck the governments around the world that are pouring 100's of billions into the pockets of the fucking bankers while leaving the workers to rot. AND telling us that we're the ones who are going to have to pay for this anyway in the end.

You think this recession is hurting people now? Just wait a few years when all that borrowing has to be paid back and we're the ones that have to pay it in the form of increased taxes, crappier healthcare, education, housing, etc. It's a crime against humanity and I want to see the system responsible for it fucking burn and the rich elite benefiting from it lined up and fucking shot.

If I didn't mention it in my goodwill post, I probably actively hate it. Or am apathetic towards at it at the very least. Some highlights of my scorn-

MMOG publishers- I played 2 or 3 new MMOGs this year, and ended the year going back to EVE. Can someone please build a decent PvP game without levels?????

Wall Street and the corporate elite. Fuck every one of you for steering the economy into a fucking ditch and leaving us plebians to burn in the wreckage while you and yours parachute down safely in your ejector seats.

EA Sports. The EASHL portion of NHL 09 was a genius idea that has been completely destroyed due to utter incompetence and negligence on behalf of the developers, QA, and publishers. I fervently hope that the 2k folks steal the idea and unfuck it for next year so I can play a decent game without gamebreaking bugs and exploits.

Clay Bennett, David Stern, and the rest of the fucksticks responsible for the Sonics leaving Seattle.

Pretty much everything to do with Seattle sports this year. What a fucking debacle from start to finish.

George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the rest of the lying, thieving, Constitution-raping, profiteering assholes who have run this country's good name into the ground the past 8 years.

Fuck any one who still supports them. May you seriously die of fucking ass cancer after being hit by a bus.

Fuck the present US medical industry, especially insurance companies.

Fuck damn near everyone working on wall street. All of them. Top to bottom.

Fuck the Big Three.

Fuck US companies and industry and US people for wanting shit so cheap they ended up sending our entire manufacturing industrial base overseas to third world countries. So that our entire workforce is now either financial industry, consulting, medical or flipping burgers.

Fuck my new house for taking up so much of my free time. I would like to do something else on the weekend other than paint, mow, clean, or one of the other 200 chores home ownership has saddled me with.

Fuck the space industry for not having found warp drive yet. I want off this rock.

Can't list the good without the hate.

I hate that I was lied to about a variety of very significant things by a person I knew for almost a decade that has now left the area (and getting professional help, which is good, but I never want to fucking talk to him again).

I hate that after going through almost a decade of layoffs in various companies, my current company seems to think it can improve its stock price (it's already profitable damn it) by doing layoffs.

I hate having to go into the office at all since I can do 100% of my job from home.

I have a new one fresh from today...

You FUCKING SHITTY ASS LITTLE FUCKIGN BALL OF FUR FUCKING ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH KITTEN! FUCK YOU!

I swear on all that is holy that despite whatever my wife's feelings on the subject may be...even if I have to use pliers, a drimmel tool and a fucking blow torch...that kitten will get declawed!

We adopted/bought a puppy and kitty (tonkinese) both on Halloween night. Took puppy for a walk today. Came home to find that his little preciousness had ruined the decorative pillow and $400 duvet on the guest bed! Combined they were worth more than his over priced little ass was!

And NO Im not living in a house with doors shut because God forbid the kitty might do something destructive.

Say good bye to the front claws you little fucking demon of destruction! Any way look on the brightside....had this been my new leather couch or leather mission chairs you would be dead already and daddy would have a small new fur throw rug.  :drill:

De-clawing cats is animal cruelty, full stop.

Keep the claws trimmed, sure, but you have to do it regularly. But if you do a full de-claw then you are not fit to own an animal. If you find a "vet" who will de-claw a cat for you then they are not a proper vet.

If you cannot trim your cats claws regularly, or go through the hassle of training them to use a scratching post, or cope with the damage they will do with untrimmed claws then you should not have a cat. Get a fucking goldfish.

Re: Kitty claws - there are little rubber 'claw gloves' you can buy that slip right over the individual claws - you might have to add a little glue, I forget.  I had an ex who used them on her cat to great success.  They fall off now and then as the claws grow, but they're not hard to put on.

That said, calling declawing animal cruelty while spaying and neutering animals is so widespread and accepted always struck me as odd.

Post by: Raging Turtle on December 21, 2008, 02:23:15 AM
You're right that he didn't mention it, and maybe he thinks spaying/neutering is cruel as well, but they're both common vetrinary surgical procedures used for behavior modication (and to stop the preggers, obviously), with the big difference being that one is widely reviled and the other is thought of as being standard or even responsible.  Most animal shelters won't let you take a cat or dog home unless you get it snipped, but somehow removing the first knuckle is horrible and evil.

I don't like it myself since there are good alternatives, but if you have a cat that's going to live its whole life indoors, I'm not going to call you a terrible person for doing it.

Title: Re: Festivus '08: It's that time again.
Post by: apocrypha on December 21, 2008, 03:32:00 AM
Spaying & neutering don't cause long lasting pain, plus they spare female cats from the unpleasantness of cat sex (they have barbed willies!) and the risks of pregnancy. But yes, point taken about behavioral modification to ease domestication, and I accept I may have some double standards going on there.

Apparently the little rubber claw covers work really well but getting them on can be... tricky  :drill:

They can use lasers now to greatly ease the pain and recovery of declawing.  I'm still not sure I like it, but it's not quite as barbaric as the old procedure.

Oh yes.  I fucking hate hypocrites.

Oh yes.  I fucking hate hypocrites.

A) Yes the local animal hospital uses lasers. They dont remove the lowest knuckle. They just kill the nail bed with the laser. No bleeding and no pain due to nerves being cauterized. In fact if you wait till 16 weeks they will do that and spay/neuter your kitty at the same time.

B) I bought and applied the rubber claw tips last night. Kitty squirmed but being a Tonkinese he likes being handled unlike some other cat breeds. We will see how they work. If not then beginning of Jan when kitty hits 16+ weeks its nip (genitals) and tuck (claws) time.

And in keeping with the theme of the thread....I HATE the fact that the entire airline system right now is proper fucked and my wife who was supposed to be home from NYC this morning is stuck in LaGuardia getting bumped from flight to another to another to another. Fuck! Seriously. Its like the whole airline system is run by a malicious tribe of garden gnomes!

This is my opinion on pet modification, if you disagree, feel free to enlighten me.

There is no alternative to "snipping" your cat if you want to allow it outside, but there are numerous alternatives to declawing. Also, what if your cat gets attacked outside, and needs to climb a tree/fight whatever is attacking it off? It's gonna be pretty fucked without claws.

Now, back to the show.

No, not reaching to be the ultimate douchebag.  Not trying to impress with the range of my dislike.

But Christmas;  I hate what it's become.  I really hate what it's become for me and my family.  I eagerly await Elena growing up to the stage where she puts some of the magic back for her parents.

I hate people that bitch about how much they hate the government and this and that but don't do anything at all to change it, I hate myself a lot too.

I hate the current love for mash-ups on my radio station now, Its fucking Jive Bunny all over again now.

I hate thats is so goddam hard to buy food that isn't chokful of flavours and shit that turn your brain into a sponge, I hate the fact that we let companies make this shit and sell it and fill up supermarkets with it and then blame the consumer for making poor lifestyle choices when they can't even sell fucking fruit juice without additional flavours.

I don't really hate, but it seems like most of my ex-girl friends end up like Puddle of Mudd's "She fucking hates me" or Buckcherry's "Crazy Bitch" or Offsprings "Why don't you get a job", or if I'm lucky, like Sam's "Wild Thing".  Psycho bitches...I'm attracted to them.

I hate that 1 to 2% of patients are the true "welfare queens and kings" and end up souring all of my co-workers where they hate the idea of socializing medicine.

I don't really know where else to post this, but I feel the need to vent, but I can't with my normal people because they are involved.

This is probably the worst Christmas I've ever had, and it isn't even the day yet. I already said that my mom's car had gotten broken into, and that pretty much crushed my Christmas spirit right there. Then I find out that my mother and stepfather might be getting a divorce, but have decided to "keep it together" through the holidays, which just fucking sucks(and I live with them, weee), and now the weather has made it impossible for my sister to show up, oh and I can't get my shopping done for the same reason.

I really feel like shit.

Had to work hard to get some vitriol going because of all the things I'm thankful for, but here's what I got:

1. I hate almost everyone on the WoW forums and wish them a painful death. Yet I can't stop going there - sort of a microcosm of WoW in general...

2. I hate the anti-abortion protester, gun nut, bible-thumpers that live up here in Fairbanks and drive 20 mph under the speed limit when the roads are clear.

3. I hate that our landlord that lives above us has decided to go on vacation for the last month and leave his slack-jawed brain dead nephew to house-sit who likes to keep their 3 dogs running around late at night and forgetting to refill the fuel oil tank.

I hate the guy that sat next to me on my flight in to NYC last night.

(I do love that I elbowed him in the face "accidentally" while stretching, so not a total hatefest.)

I hate that there are still ridiculously stupid and hateful people in this country and that they vote.

(I love however, that in places all over California last week, I saw pockets of resistance to Prop 8. From Joshua Tree to Palm Springs, to Los Angeles.)

I hate that I got out of finance when I should have stayed and maybe done what I could to minimize the shitstorm that came down this fall.

(Not that I could have done much, but my voice would have been one among a core of competent people that could have made at least some small difference.)

I hate that I found probably the best thing that ever happened to me too late for us to safely have kids and maybe stem the growing tide of stupid.

Honestly though, that's a pissweak hate list, but I'm of good cheer in this season of miracles, so fuck it. Happy holidays, bitches.

Or buy a snowblower, a 4x4, and learn to enjoy this beautiful season.

Title: Re: Festivus '08: It's that time again.

You're right.  Move to Arizona and try to get that job that's available there.  Although I have enjoyed visiting Arizona in the past, if I had to live there I would be in constant complain mode.  It would be a horrible place to live, in my opinion.  Hot and, well, hot.  Even worse than all the places that get constantly dumped with crappy snow.  I don't want a snowblower, or a cruddy 4X4 (hate those things!) and snow is only beautiful momentarily unless you live out in the country and people leave it alone and don't muck around with it.  As long as I can afford to have someone else plow and shovel and my groceries and stuff can be delivered, I wouldn't mind living in a winter wonderland postcard.  If not, snow sucks.

People that disappointed me this year:

- The nearly 48% of the voters that voted for the crotchety old guy and the Van Halen video extra. Thank goodness the bad dream is (almost) over.
- The mainstream media, every last one of them. You talk about jobs that a robot could do, these people should be put on a production line to actually increase from zero their contribution to our society. Even the talking heads are just reading RSS feeds, probably prepared for them in India.
- Elliot Spitzer.

But even this was a stretch for me. I had a pretty damned good year and really don't have any personal complaints. Except for my weight. But that was a tradeoff for the other things... I keep telling myself anyway ;-)

Fuck you IBM for having the shittiest support system I have ever seen.  You make shit products and employ retarded people (except for anyone here who posts here).

I would put this into the Goodwill thread because this is why I have a job.  My previous two jobs as well, in fact.  IBM's incompetence is the fuel for my career.

EDIT for grief.

I think one of my cats has epilepsy.  That's pretty shitty since I can't do anything about it.

I guess I can also complain about the dog we have that continues to piss on the rug.  Rather than fight Wifenstein over it, I have given up any shred of concern for odors in the foyer.  I've been told several times that it's not my dog, and I have long since defined that it is not my rug, so I think it's probably time for it to not be my job to mop up dog piss.  Besides, I have an epileptic cat (that does not piss on the rug) to care for.

I despise the Xbox 360 and by extension J Allard and his team of pennypinching half-wits.

I am pre-emptively hating The Sims 3.  It is sure to bring unwelcome household change.

I dislike the fact that diesel costs a dollar more per gallon than gasoline.  I mean, what the fuck?

I dislike how the pool and landscaping costs are still preventing me from buying and installing a tankless water heater.

I dislike Douglas fir needles.

I dislike non-flammable Starter Logs.  How do you fuck up a chunk of wax with sawdust in it?

I'm sorry about your kitty.  That really sucks.  (http://www.democraticwarrior.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)  My poor Magenta's recent little problem really had me stressed enough and I hope it's over and done with now and nothing else goes wrong.  I would be a mess if my kitty had a problem like yours does.

When I was growing up, my family would mostly have Blue Spruce, which is my favourite.  It's gorgeous and smells wonderful.  We always had HUGE (well, huge to me but I was little) but live trees so there wasn't a needle issue.  On January 6th we would take them down and put goodies on them for the birds.

Quote

Oh dear.  I think UK petrol priced are about 86 or 87 p/litre and diesel is about 10 p more.  That's recent, too.  It used to be about 1 or 2 p more until just a few months or so ago.  I don't understand why diesel is so much more expensive since I've always understood that it was easier to refine.

I don't understand the concept of a "non-flammable Starter Log".  Is that a real thing?  It makes no sense!  How do you start a fire with something non flammable?!?

I love spruces. I got a ridiculously nice one for $22, it was older but trimmed down very well. I can't believe it was so cheap. Anyway, this year in the new house, I have the tree set in front of the back doors to the patio, so I plan on just moving it out there this weekend. So it'll sit about four feet from where it is now, still nicely visible in the living room.

My mother also puts stuff in the tree for birds, the cats love it. I'll probably do that, too.

I dislike how the pool and landscaping costs are still preventing me from buying and installing a tankless water heater.

Gas or electric?

Electric.  I know.  I could probably run one off of the LP tank but I haven't decided if I want to run the line.  I'm looking at less than 3GPM at any one time so electric probably would work fine.

I'm shooting for one just so I can make some progress.  You should know that I currently have two heaters and my master bath is on it's own loop (which gives me the 3GPM number), so getting one and putting it directly beneath my shower would solve everyone's problems.  Maybe just mine.  Replacing the other tank is certainly a great idea but will be postponed due to cost.

Did I complain about my DirecTV unit dying yet?  I simply cannot watch TV anymore because I'm stuck in a TiVoless, SD hell.  Without our support -- because we couldn't tell which team was which -- the Falcons lost to the Cardinals.  Not that I watched a lot of TV in the first place.  To that end, I'd like to say that I disagree with my wife's assertion that we can fix this on the cheap when the obvious solution is to buy a new DirecTV HD DVR post-haste so I don't miss out on anything like a new Venture Bros. or some BSG shit.  The fact that she was right about the water heater* doesn't magically make her right about the DVR.  Also, we are penniless because of her projects.

*Replacing the heating elements worked awesomely and cost $20.

I also hate EVE Online promotions that cause me to lose good sense.
