Title: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on November 25, 2008, 01:42:16 AM Got in through my JP account - which forces me to play on US servers under my US account, rad. :drill: :drill: :drill:
Gonna make Bat Country, anyone else in? Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: JWIV on November 25, 2008, 01:51:48 AM I'm in. Make it happen.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Oz on November 25, 2008, 08:29:46 AM I'm also in the Home beta, got my invite yesterday though so haven't jumpe in yet. Will have to tonight, before we head off to cold-ass nebraska to visit wife's family.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Falconeer on November 25, 2008, 08:50:23 AM But is it fun? Or cute?
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on November 25, 2008, 08:51:29 AM The girl faces are ugly. The guys are cavemen. Someone tell me why Europe does - consistantly - either super shitty (Fable, Home, Witcher, etc) faces and such or super awesome ones (Heavenly Sword, the only example I can think of >_<).
It seems interesting. Particularly the tie-in to unlockables (I got into the Namco Home Arcade beta also). Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Lounge on November 25, 2008, 10:13:15 AM I got in about two weeks ago. I don't see the point of Home. Can someone explain what I'm missing?
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Yegolev on November 25, 2008, 10:58:42 AM I don't seem to have given my email address to the right person. What are the chances I can get in if I make that JP account I have been putting off?

Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on November 25, 2008, 08:11:00 PM Got Bat Country created. Invites getting sent out. Also trying invites on non-HOME users to see what happens (Sorry Yegolev!)
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Mrbloodworth on November 26, 2008, 07:28:51 AM I haven't used my PS3 in a bit, did you get an e-mail notification? I did sign up for it with the whole Theme thing.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Moaner on November 27, 2008, 10:17:41 AM Hook Happy_Hedonist up with an invite Schild.
I haven't used my PS3 in a bit, did you get an e-mail notification? I did sign up for it with the whole Theme thing. Yea, invites went out a couple days ago. If you didn't get in you're not missing much at the moment. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Falconeer on November 28, 2008, 12:08:02 PM I have a spare invite for euro beta. Who wants it?
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on November 28, 2008, 04:22:21 PM That euro beta, if signed up on a euro account - but not launched - on a US PS3, can then switch over to your US account after downloading the beta and play on US servers. Just saying.

Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: TripleDES on November 29, 2008, 01:07:13 PM Actually, I found an invite in my spam folder while looking for something else.
Right now it appears to be pretty walled off to the Square Home. Seeing that there's a closed off area with escalators, there might be more. Hopefully. Also, this'll be completely based on microtransactions... Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: ahoythematey on November 29, 2008, 02:56:55 PM I'm guessing a lot of games are going to include exclusive shit you can use in Home.
As for bat country: I'm game. It's kind of a bummer how limited the clothing stuff is right now, though. I want a monocle so much. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Velorath on November 30, 2008, 01:50:28 AM I'm guessing a lot of games are going to include exclusive shit you can use in Home. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: apocrypha on December 01, 2008, 10:45:44 AM Sorted & installed, thanks Falconeer. Most likely just the Sony developed/published games. Why would this be? Most developers won't add extra stuff in unless forced. You can already see this in the lack of games that support trophies (until next year when they become mandatory). Also, MS seems to persue extra content for multiplatform games a lot more aggressively than Sony does. But I like it, as I like not stumbling when I walk or not running out of toilet paper when I need it. It's ok. Let's see what they can do with it. I agree completely, and I suppose I meant to ask why would Sony not mandate Home... uh, trophies? MS mandated Achievements from the get-go, and I consider Sony not having Trophies ready at launch to be a big fail. Patching sucks. Not mandating these things except perhaps in Sony games would be dumb. Not mandating these things except perhaps in Sony games would be dumb. Trophies will be mandatory next year, but I haven't heard any word on whether or not this will include mandated support for them in Home. I'm guessing probably not, mostly because Sony still seems unsure of when they're actually going to launch Home. Well, that and the fact that they seem reluctant to make anything mandatory for developers (unlike MS, they don't require voice chat support for online games, even in their first party titles). I'm sure Home trophies will be a requirement at some point, but I'd guess it won't be until some time after Home launches. Trophies aside, pretty much all of the Home content they've shown off for games right now is for Sony exclusives (the Uncharted bar, the Warhawk war room, etc...). Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: HAMMER FRENZY on December 14, 2008, 12:07:59 PM Home sounds like ass. Skip the BS and let me play games... :oh_i_see:
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on December 14, 2008, 12:44:13 PM Hammer, I'm delighted that you decided to pop your head in on a thread about a project where you are the exact opposite audience. However, the "games are getting too easy and gamers are getting too stupid" coalition needs you over in the Wii: Console Depression thread.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: HAMMER FRENZY on December 15, 2008, 08:16:32 AM I'm honestly surprised you like the home stuff Schild. It really just seems like a pointless way to waste time when you could just be using the system for any of the other cool and actually useful stuff. But really if dead behind the eyes avatars roaming around and chatting it up like it's 1995 is the new hip thing, by all means, eat that shit up. :oh_i_see:
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: MisterNoisy on December 15, 2008, 08:16:38 AM My Home experience:
Download client. Boot client, get informed that I need to reserve 3 GB for Home data. Attempt to sign in. Repeat last step 10 times. Get in, play around with zombie creator for 10 mins. Register disappointment at the dearth of options. Look at the shitty noob apartment and hope that there's stuff that I can get to make it less chintzy looking. Make couch fort. Exit to 'Plaza', where I'm immediately greeted by some guy shouting 'STOP GRABBING MY ASS!' to all and sundry around him over and over and pity the poor chick avatar running away from 10 followers. Visit the 'Mall' where I hope to remedy the lack of clothing and furniture. Finds that clothes are $.49 per piece and furniture starts at $.99 per piece. PS Button, exit, then boot up LBP. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Lantyssa on December 15, 2008, 02:06:07 PM Why such fawning over females? I really haven't seen it that bad since the mud days (where the smaller community would be happy to defend their female members from such annoyances). Are PS3s only bought for horny fourteen year olds?

Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Mrbloodworth on December 17, 2008, 09:05:33 AM Somebody give me a positive comment on Home, please. Its pretty, and the streaming tech built into it is somewhat interesting. Its the people that ruin it. That, and the voice chat....oh god the voice chat. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: apocrypha on December 17, 2008, 11:27:36 PM Somebody give me a positive comment on Home, please. It uninstalls cleanly. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Margalis on December 17, 2008, 11:35:00 PM It's not on superior consoles like the Wii. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Yegolev on December 18, 2008, 12:55:08 PM I should have listened. No, I had to try it myself. It was almost hilarious, in a laugh-at-the-retards way. Favorite moment was in the bowling alley:

I can only imagine why... probably too many "Hey I fucked your mom" and "hey are you really a girl? I'm going to hump you now!" Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Yegolev on December 18, 2008, 01:14:48 PM Oh, yeah. There goes about 1/3 of the comedy.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Mrbloodworth on December 19, 2008, 07:15:31 AM Sony has just removed voice chat from Home. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on December 19, 2008, 11:21:02 AM I don't see what's so bad about it. It's not on superior consoles like the Wii. :awesome_for_real: This. If Nintendo had put out Home and made a little apartment for you to dress up and further interact with your Miis and you could just load it from the system, the press and public would be fucking fawning over it. It would sell even more systems. On the PS3 though? Confusion, chaos, and distress. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: stray on December 19, 2008, 11:56:33 AM I think it's pretty tight. I've approximated my appearance closely too... Got red hair though. Look like the male version of the Heavenly Sword character. Heh. I'm digging Sully's Bar.
I'm not into socializing here no less than I am in other MMO type of environments, so I see no reason to let that bring me down anymore here than elsewhere. The software though is pretty cool. Hopefully I actually have more to do here than socialize. Just having more games and shit -- and ways to win things (as opposed to purchasing with real dollars) would entertain me. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: Mrbloodworth on December 19, 2008, 12:25:11 PM Sully's Bar. What the hell was every one in there talking about door codes and all piling up on the doors at the back? Did i miss something when i ran away from the 20 or so VOIP users screaming about "WHATS DOOR KEY"? Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: stray on December 19, 2008, 02:49:39 PM Really, I'm quite surprised that not many of you are impressed by this. They've at least delivered on the underlying concept/what they advertised back in that vid awhile back. It works. I think it'll be cool once it's integrated with the rest of the PS3's shit.
I don't keep up with what they have planned, but they should install a Bravia and PS3 in everyone's house (duh). It'd be cool to have episodes of Qore (or hell, porn on your hard drive) streaming in there. More store integration as well. There should be streaming versions of every trailer and making of video in the store on here too. [edit] BTW Schild, have you created an "F13" Club. Heh Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on December 19, 2008, 03:32:18 PM I haven't installed the live version yet.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: schild on December 19, 2008, 03:39:14 PM Heh, yea, $5 clubhouse. I'm in no rush.
Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: TripleDES on December 19, 2008, 05:31:33 PM Open beta's sure making a great impression in that they keep people cramped into the same few spaces. Apparently they've been gradually cutting out more and more stuff. I've been told there was a marina area with jet skis and shit like that.
Also, this thing does autosharding. Means if there's that much people in an area, surpassing the limit will create a new shard and log new folks into that one. So don't expect to meet friends in public areas again and again. Title: Re: Playstation Home Beta Post by: stray on December 20, 2008, 08:59:56 AM I'm dead set on buying a real life version of the emo cardigan I'm wearing in here.
