Title: Text Message WTF
Post by: NiX on November 24, 2008, 10:17:28 AM
So, I'm sitting here doing a project and I get a text message from someone saying they're trying to see if their text messaging works. I glance at the number, it's long and unfamiliar to me, area code and all, so I assume it's my friend in Uruguay. Then I check it again and Google the number, which turns out to be from Michigan. Freeland, Michigan to be exact. This creeps me the fuck out because Freeland is my last name.

So far, no reply from my messages sent to the number. Anyone know a way to track this? Canada has free reverse look up, but all I can find for stateside numbers is pay shit.

Can you call them on a landline?

I would normally ignore any text message from an unfamiliar number, because in my country it can be SMS scammers where replying can automatically sign you up for a high-fee subscription service added to your phone bill.

That's odd. I think every thing you have to text to sign up for, in Canada, has to be a 5 digit number, not an actual phone number. I don't know if it works cross border with your numbers, but I guess I might find out soon enough.

It's probably your bud from the hallway just trying to keep tabs on you.
