Post by: Register on November 23, 2008, 12:07:56 AM
Apparently its the 4th anniversary - any char logging in now gets an achievement and a special cute bear pet....

Think TBC panda but white.

Also, when you hit Dalaran make sure you check out the pet store. There's surprisingly little for sale (so far), but one thing is a ball of string for your companion pets to play fetch with...

That's... almost enough.  So cute.  I don't need to re-sub.

Cute.

Argh.

Eh, personally, if you care about rare minipets, or achievements, even if you're not actively playing now, I'd say it's worth getting online for.

I doubt I'd bother if I wasn't actively playing right now, but then, I've never been much of a minipet person.

Even cuter, in that Coca Cola Polar Bear sorta way, when it sits down:

And please, no mocking of the crappy gear. I pettered out shortly after some Kara upgrades so the new expansion has been greens and quest blues aplenty :-)

Not dissimilar to Registers avatar!

My avatar is a dog named Sadaharu! Technically, he's a guardian spirit that just happen to look like a rather big dog...

here's a youtube clip on him! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPAeYDglYY4&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPAeYDglYY4&feature=related)

Anyway, with the 4th anniversary going on the capital cities were crazy with 12234840394 characters logging in and the achievements popping all over like mini fireworks...

Crazy was the word. We had a 1600 person queue for our 4th anniversary. :oh_i_see:

I was "online" all day so I didn't get in it, but people constantly bitched about it in guild chat.

Hah, I logged in at 2am and got all mine, however, my server has never had a queue.  I really wish they'd realize the server is a failure and let us all jump ship somewhere else or return to our original servers.  Once most people are done with their first 80 the server's going to go back to being barren ghost town.

So at this point, even if I re-upped I might not get in to get the cuteness?

You have until Midnight your server time I assume.

I was just thrilled to get the same bear as everyone else, so I could look the same as everyone else. Now at last I belong.

edit - I wanted one of these. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHSb6JN6z7k)

Glad I saw this thread, just logged in and got mine on all accounts, cute little pet  :awesome_for_real:

It's Bind On Account too, so you can train it on one char then just send it to any other chars on the same account and train it on them, no need to rush around logging all your chars on.

I'd like to get that baby hippo.

I'd also like to get two of our most photogenic female zookeepers as well. To go with the baby hippo, you understand.   :drill:

The download and install didn't happen in time.  I'm safe from re-upping again.

I was just in two hours ago and saw someone get theirs. No idea how long they'll keep it up, but you have at least 30 days anyway, because the reward is delivered via ingame Mail.

This isn't limited to yesterday.  I just hit one of my old accounts with a Scroll of Resurrection cause there was stuff I wanted to get off some of the characters, and I'm getting both the achievement and the pet.

If you don't want to pay to resubscribe, you can get someone to send you a scroll and just log in your characters with it.

Title: Re: Wow 4th anniversary!
Post by: Lantyssa on November 24, 2008, 04:40:16 PM
Send me a scroll?  Pets come on scrolls now or something?

Title: Re: Wow 4th anniversary!
Post by: Koyasha on November 24, 2008, 04:59:33 PM
Scroll of Resurrection, their 10 day free re-subscribe offer.  Someone who's playing sends you one, you can reactivate your account for 10 days without paying.  And if you resubscribe the person who sent it gets a free month.

Huh.  That's pretty clever.  Gimmick-y, but clever.

Is anyone willing to use one of their five invites with the month long cool down timer, then?  Chances are I won't be re-upping, though with no other MMOs out to grab my attention I suppose there is a very slim chance of it happening.  If such a kind soul exists (or does it make you a dealer with my free sample?), send me a PM and I'll give you whatever details you need.

I've been taken care of.  Thanks to those who offered, or would have offered.

I now have a cute little bear and have been reminded how much I love my space gypsies.

My hunter has a white polar bear for his pet, and now he has a baby polar bear as pet too.  Too bad I can't make both of them sit and drink cokes.  Oh I've got some extra scrolls of resurrection if anyone needs a trial.

A feral druid guildie has been raving about his new bear mount and bear pet. We don't have much time until the bearocalypse...  :pedobear:

I showed my wife and daughter the new pet last night. I don't think I've ever heard the word 'adorable' used so many tmes in the space of 30 seconds. Being an undead unholy death knight with stink lines and zombies is apparently no match for the rainbows that this thing poops.

A few of these strategically placed around a battlefield could bring it to a complete halt.

Soon, this will be World of Aaahhhcraft.

I saw this on someone's mount while playing with my polar bear, and felt kind of annoyed.

I hate them too.

I'm annoyed that Blizzcon is written on an item in play. In everything else, the real world is one step removed. Normal Blizzard style would be to have a tongue-in-cheek item that we know represents Blizzard but is technically a part of the NPCs' world, e.g. an item for surviving snowstorms or an "Emblem of the Blizzard Convention".

But no, they fuck four years of sticking to that rule by having a "BlizzCon" flag on an in-game mount. Also, people who attend MMORPG conventions are scary LARPers and I don't want to even be aware they are anywhere near my computer.

Hehe very true. I logged my girlfriends account on and collected her baby blizzard bear for her. When she got home and logged her Deathcow on and saw it she nearly exploded with cutesy glee  :awesome_for_real:

It doesn't break immersion, it breaks the fourth wall. Now, breaking the fourth wall is not automatically bad, but there needs to be a point to it. With these two instances, I don't see the point.

You're this knowledgeable about the details of four-year-old fugly WoW, and I'm only visiting for WotLK. QED.

I bow to your whatever the fuck it is.

People are worried the word "WoW" breaks immersion?  YOUR GAME HAS MOTORCYCLES NOW, KTHX.

BlizzCon only shares one letter with WoW, but still you confused them. Stop making my shitty posts even worse.

Yes, it breaks the forth wall. In a game that's endlessly referential of all manner of pop culture. Oh well.

You're this knowledgeable about the details of four-year-old fugly WoW, and I'm only visiting for WotLK. QED.

You're being a wanker.
What's this "you're a bigger nerd than me because you know more about the topic I brought up" bullshit?
Along with "ha ha you're a loser because you've been playing this game that ..this game that I am now playing again. But I'm only playing for a little while. I'm not a huge catass any more. But I USED to be UBER, and like to talk about that every time the opportunity presents itself."

Seriously, stop it or fuck off.
