Title: Change I can believe in! Obama appoints a WoW player Post by: DraconianOne on November 21, 2008, 01:02:21 AM I have no idea where to put this topic so any mod can feel free to move it just please for the love of all that is holy don't move it to Politics even though it's kinda related to politics. I'm actually surprised I haven't seen this already discussed
Obama has appointed Kevin Werbach to co-chair his FCC transition team (http://gigaom.com/2008/11/18/obamas-fcc-transition-team-co-chair-a-wow-player/). Mr Werbach is, amongst other things, a seasoned WoW player who raids regularly with "We Know", the guild set up by Joi Ito. I think it's very cool that there is finally someone in a position of relative importance who is a gamer. But could one of you statesiders please tell this uninformed Brit what FCC stands for. With the number of people playing WoW, they ought to be everywhere anyway.

I only know this because wireless flash triggers have to be FCC approved.

Title: Re: Change I can believe in! Obama appoints a WoW player Post by: DraconianOne on November 21, 2008, 03:16:44 AM Apparently he's a resto Shaman. Also, more importantly, he's Horde.
I don't get the excitement over this. With the number of people playing WoW, they ought to be everywhere anyway. I don't think it's so much that it's WoW more than he's a gamer. Nor is that he's high profile but that he's high profile and in a position of responsibility. Consider the fact that if Hilary Clinton had got the Democrat nomination and won the election, we'd be seeing someone like Jack Thompson in that position - disbarred or not. Heh. Don't know about the raider one. We were talking about this in politics.
Off topic, I haven't seen a Foetus Inc. album cover since my college days. A couple of my roommate were crazy about Thirwell. Title: Re: Change I can believe in!
