Title: Must see events!
Post by: Ragnoros on November 12, 2008, 10:30:39 PM
Making this thread in advance. Post events / quests / areas that should not be missed. Preferably as spoiler free as possible.

Back in TBC I missed the return of the horde quest line in Hellfire as I skipped an early quest. Would like to avoid that in WotLK.

I went to the 7-11 two blocks from my house and picked it right up in 2 minutes.

Duh, you're an MMO player! You're going there to buy Cheetos and Mountain Dew anyway!  :awesome_for_real:

EDIT: nvm - wrong thread

But in spirit of this thread - keep an eye out in Vengeance Landing (or not, if you're Alliance scum) for the encounter between the Lich King's lieutenant and his Vrykul troops and the Forsaken. It's a great way of introducing a character that you then get to tank and spank in Utgarde Keep later on.

I mention this only because I found that I've never ever had a sense of why I was in a dungeon and what the story was or who the bosses were but this already makes it more, dunno, meaningful?

Unless you're not like me and don't give a shit about anything except teh shineys!

No but seriously, any game I want that sells at 7-11, I will buy at 7-11. Because it's two blocks from my house. And it's open 24/7. And I go there all the time anyway.

Tank quest.  Do it.

There is a chain in dragonblight (basically the last one) that has a cutscene.

It was damn cool.

Must do questline.

The quest in the chain after the cutscene is pretty good too.  At least for Horde.  Reclaiming Undercity, with Blizzard's "phasing" quest system.

Was actually the first one I did in the zone. If you enter from Borean Tundra  (as Alliance anyway) it probably will be last but I came in from the Fjord. And yeah it is awesome.

In the basin, be sure to do all of the quests for the Avatar of Freya.

Oh god yes.

We just did those a few minutes ago. Three guys doing the last one was hilarity.

Alliance, do the trapper quest chain starting at Amberpine Lodge in Grizzly Hills. Don't read any walkthroughs or spoilers!

Tank quest.  Do it.

Tank quest. Done it. Goddam, that was cool.

Also very much liked the precursor quests in "the mist".  Those seaweed barbarian mobs were excellent.   Love the way they fell apart when dead.

Everyone else already knows this, no doubt, but I just want to mention that holy fuck the Death Knight intro quests are awesome.

There's also a bunch of flavor stuff in Dalaaran I haven't seen mentioned anywhere yet.   Pet toys, player toys and other nifty things.  It's a damn cool place.

There is a pretty cool little "cutscene" type thing at the end of the Gjabsomethingorother quest line in Howling Fjord.

I just did the main Dragonblight chain - that is not to be missed.  It's long but wow.

There's a chain in Coldarra in Borean Tundra that's a must-do.

I'm partial to the quests with gimmicks.  There's a quest chain in Howling around Nifflevar that I really enjoyed.

Love this thread but a simple request: if recommending a quest/quest chain, could people please say if it's faction specific because I am quite willing to take people's recommendations but don't want to waste my time if it's not something I can do.

Someone mention this already?  Do the quest line to free Gymer, the Storm Giant King in Zul'Drak.  The last quest is a vehicle quest...  In a loose sense.

Before you run Drak'Theron keep find the quest line for the Troll in the cage - Drakuru-  in Grizzly Hills and do it until he gives you the quest for the dungeon.

The quests in the Storm Peaks  for the giants are also pure awesome.  Particularly if you love the norse/ viking flavor stuff.

A little easter egg for 'Lost' fans - there's an island in Bittertide Lake in Sholazar Basin with a hatch on it, inscribed with the numbers 5, 9, 16, 17, 24, 43.

thanks for the info guys, I'm just at the start of the Fjord. Must say this expansion looks nice at least. A lot of little things were added

Something to do at least once:

Take the "shortcut" to venture bay from Blue Sky Logging camp in Grizzly Hills.   Blizzard has implimented at least one ground based flightpath, and this example is just freaking awesome.

For Horde, this is fucking fantastic. I don't want to spoil it, but it is amazing. The cutscene is a real cutscene, and to following quest chain is really great.

Actually, that quest is a followup quest for a quest you should have already done at around 75 or so, if you happened to do the quests available for you at the Tower at the time.

Icecrown has some pretty interesting quests for alliance (I assume they are similar for horde) with the whole phasing thing and the emergence of the lich king.

This isn't really an event, but there's a quest chain in Howling Fjord that has you using a magical disguise that polymorphs you into a worg and gives you +80% run speed. If you abandon the quest after the first stage but before the last, you can keep the disguise forever. It only works in Howling Fjord, but it's a fun little novelty item to have, and worth a bank slot to hold onto.

It's a quest chain that's otherwise not worth doing, since it has you run all over hell and the reward is just a generic green item just like a hundred others at that level.

Damn, I just completed that quest line a few days ago (takes me a while at 30 minutes per day). Wish I'd kept the disguise now

Pretty sure I finished that quest in about 30 minutes. Or maybe I haven't finished the whole chain yet - haven't checked to see if I've actually still got the disguise or not.

It's a cool enough disguise but it only works in Howling Fjord. I doubt I'll be spending enough time there for it to be worth the pack space once I'm finished questing.

Yeah, it working only in that one zone was the killer for me.  I still have the furbolg one though.

I was wondering what that was.

Speaking of disguises, you can buy an item in Storm Peaks that lets you turn into an iron dwarf for 10 minutes, 60 min cooldown. Doesn't take a trinket slot, just a bag slot.
