Title: New release and ambulation videos Post by: Endie on November 08, 2008, 07:03:33 PM Here is a kinda cool trailer for the latest expansion: http://uk.youtube.com/user/CCPGAMES
And here are some ambulation videos: http://www.enn-blog.com/2008/11/first-looks-at-ambulation/ Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: Krakrok on November 08, 2008, 10:08:48 PM I still think the walking around in stations in Ambulation will help Eve a lot. What would you use it for? Isn't it a bit like saying 'walking around empty buildings in SWG npc cities would help a lot'? Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: lac on November 09, 2008, 06:36:22 AM I still think the walking around in stations in Ambulation will help Eve a lot. With what?(Vampire, the masquerade, wasn't it?) It's a pretty clever move by CCP to use the development of their DIKU engine to add a bigger social and avatar bonding aspect to Eve. When completed they'll have both the space sim engine and the new mmo engine running in the same game environment. Coupled with the recent changes to their netcode and infiniband and other hardware upgrades, they seem well underway to accommodate 1000 people space battles in a game with an engine that will allow them to add pretty much anything they want. With ambulation, the napkin coders at CCP just got themselves a way bigger napkin. Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: Krakrok on November 09, 2008, 07:41:48 AM With what? Player retention of more Bartle social gamers. The people who can't get over not having an avatar. People who have only played WoW before. Women. Isn't it a bit like saying 'walking around empty buildings in SWG npc cities would help a lot'? Weren't all of the SWG cantinas full of macroing socializers? No, they were full of min-maxing achievers either hologrinding or waiting for mind wounds to disappear whilst afk. Socialisers just trying to put on a cool show were as rare as space-hen's teeth. But anyway, I was referring to the buildings that didn't have the silly recovery mechanic built in to them. Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: Faust on November 09, 2008, 09:05:31 AM I'm sensing an end to Eve's crappy laptop capability.
Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: eldaec on November 09, 2008, 11:52:35 AM CCP have said that they don't plan to add any features for walking that can't be acheived with spaceships. You should be fine if they stick to that.

With what?Quote When completed they'll have both the space sim engine and the new mmo engine running in the same game environment. These won't be in the same technical environment though, like SWG ground game vs SWG Space (except Tansari Station which iirc was built out of the JTL engine?). However, I think your point is spot on. Use the Eve funding to make an engine for the next title that needs a ground game. I don't think it's going to be all that for the current playerbase, but I do think you're right about the business justification for this development spend. Title: Re: New release and ambulation videos Post by: Phildo on November 09, 2008, 01:04:26 PM I've said it before, anything keeps players from playing the game is a bad idea. I don't want to be trying to rally a defense gang only to find out that half my alliance is playing Space Cantina.

I don't want to be trying to rally a defense gang only to find out that half my alliance is playing Space Cantina. On the other hand, it should make all the furries happy. There better be grenades too! :drill:

There better be grenades too! :drill: Funny you should ask (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/ccp-hints-at-eve-first-person-shooter) Quote EVE Online developer CCP has hinted that a first-person shooter based on the EVE universe is in development. Franchise incoming. At the firms annual fanfest at the weekend, footage was shown of a Halo-like shooter featuring architecture and gun designs clearly redolent of the space MMO's art style, according to our sister site Eurogamer.net. Earlier in the presentation on the future of EVE, CCP bosses Hilmar Petursson and Nathan Richardsson had mentioned that CCP has a "game console strategy", and a slide mentioning PS3 and 360 was shown. It seems likely that the first-person shooter is envisaged as a game console project. Petursson mentioned that the developer has "some other tricks up our sleeve" besides EVE Online and the other MMO it is known to be developing, World of Darkness. However, Petursson was keen to point out that the developer's resources are very much focused on EVE Online's next expansion at the moment, EVE Online: Walking in Stations |
