Title: Youtube turns evil Post by: Sir T on November 08, 2008, 05:24:02 AM Got this in the mail this morning
Quote Dear jjoshaugh, Video Disabled A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video X3 Reunion - Dogfighting in bigger ships. The audio content identified in your video is Control by Traci Lords. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback, due to a music rights issue. Replace Your Audio with AudioSwap Don't worry, we have plenty of music available for your use. Please visit our AudioSwap library to learn how you can easily replace the audio in your video with any track from our growing library of fully licensed songs. Other Options If you think that there's been a mistake or you have other questions, please visit the Copyright Notice page in your account. Sincerely, The YouTube Content Identification Team The irritating is that it was easy to identify because I credited the music in the video credits and the video info! And its actually Juno Reactors remix of "Control" not Traci Lords version. Looks like they are starting to crack down. Sad thing is since a good chunk of Voutube vids are people making videos to music they have on hand or whatever, if they keep going this Youtube will empty, pretty much. Bah time to start looking for another place to host my videos I will say though that their interface for replacing the music is pretty decent and simple to use. Select song, preview video with the song and publish. But that does not make it any easier that my video will now have a soundtrack that I did not intend to have, plus I had to find one that came close to matching the length. Youtube is evil. *marches up and down the street in a lonely protest* Title: Re: Youtube turns evil Post by: Trippy on November 08, 2008, 05:37:48 AM YouTube has been yanking videos for copyright infringement since forever.

Title: Re: Youtube turns evil Post by: Broughden on November 08, 2008, 07:36:25 AM It would seem one would be doing the right thing by providing credit in one's video. However I bet that is how they are finding stuff. I doubt the recording companies have hired legions of minions to sit through and watch every video uploaded for copyright infringment.
I would simply stop giving credit. I mean fuck you are basically giving them free advertising for their music...with your amature video. They should be fucking grateful. Title: Re: Youtube turns evil Post by: Samwise on November 08, 2008, 07:44:46 AM I dream of a world where all music is released under a "free for non-commercial use" license.

Gracenote is a service that can identify music from an audio recording of it. It's not cheap, but I would imagine someone with the purse of Google would afford it or something like it. And therefore, I would imagine even lying about the music information wouldn't do dickall. However, from what I gather, it can guess wrong too, particularly remixes.
