Title: Resistance 2
Post by: Oz on November 05, 2008, 10:58:38 AM
Anyone pick this up yet?

Not yet.  I have too many games to play and not enough time to play them.  I haven't even finished Disgaea 3 yet.  I really wanted to play this at release for the MP but it looks like it's going to have to wait until next year.

I need about 3 weeks off of work to catch up on my backlog, thanks.

I'm debating it. But I really want to get Saints Row 2 now that I have a it of "gaming cash" to spend.

By the looks of it, it's pretty shallow. I have to put my roomies reaction somewhere close to how he responded to Haze.

Also, I'm getting this in the mail whenever the mail decides to get itself here.

The main positive thing I've heard about this game so far is that the co-op campaign is a lot of fun.

What?
Do NOT play Gears before this. It'll ruin the game. It looks meh, firefights seem unexciting, lots of invisible mobs with 1 hit kill attacks, meh voice acting and the controller still doesn't make shooters easy.

I hated Gears 1, I don't think this'll be a problem.

Pretty much the same complaints I've heard so far.  Also heard the AI sucks, and some areas look great while others look like there was a heavy use of copy/paste.

Resistance 1 was more fun, but maybe it was the 2 player co-op in the main campaign. It's just that, with the progress of such games as R6: Vegas and Gears, why hasn't Resistance applied any of their benefits? Your character is supposed to be in the army, make it seem like it. No cover system, no means for hiding outside of run and crouch (which are both on the SAME BUTTON :uhrr:) It boils down to running away, finding a bottleneck and shooting the enemies as they pass through it. Never rely on your teammates to shoot at anything as the AI only reacts when they get shot at, which is never, because every monster in the game hates you and only you.

Cover systems are overrated.

Seriously though, I find them annoying.

Ookii will confirm that.

Its not even that it doesn't have a cover system that is the problem. Since they now limit you to only carrying 2 weapons it does take a lot of strategy out of the fights. Before you could save some ammo for a weapon and use it later where now you are usually forced to drop weapons for new ones because of the lack of ammo. I am about 50% done and so far the only guns that have constant ammo are the Bullseye and the Carbine.

And while the firefights are on a much larger scale it doesn't feel as epic because for one your teammates are useless 90% of the time and second because all the enemies will gun only for you. I have had enemies run past my team and into another room just to attack me. Because of this you are forced to retreat and have the enemies "funnel" into a doorway or passage to kill them one at a time. It feels really cheap and that is without even mentioning the trial and error chameleon fights.

I did manage to try some coop last night and that seemed a lot more than the campaign. You choose a class and the game really requires you to play as a team and use your classes abilities in order to complete the missions.

BTW if you are curious I am NiX's roomate  :awesome_for_real:

Now that he's here, surely his opinion on R2 is validated.

Right?

RIGHT?

It's better than what I said based and I was just watching him play. You're such a bag of hope and happiness, Schild :why_so_serious:

I bought this game. No coop in the story campaign? It'd be nice if it told me that on the fucking box.
