Title: Faction
Post by: DraconianOne on November 01, 2008, 12:51:58 PM
I'm hazarding a guess that the choice between Aldor and Scryer is, at this point, pretty moot with the expansion only a couple of weeks away. Is there any point in trying to go for exalted with them beyond OCD, achievements and an epic ring (Scryer) that may or may not get replaced before reaching 80?

No.

Other than the shoulder enchants there's really no great incentive to get exalted. Scryer is a lot easier to do than aldor, so if you were already high honoured or revered with them I'd be tempted to run a couple of days worht of dailies and buy the rep items to exalted, otherwise sod it.

If you're an achievement whore though you're better off doing the rep grind now, because rep items will become a lot more scarce when everyone moves to Nothrend. They'll be cheaper, but there'll be a lot less of them.

I'm a couple of quests shy of 69 so will make 70 by Monday night and then have a week or so of making lots of cash before the expansion. I haven't even chosen a side yet let alone started actually earning rep with them - the only reason for choosing scryer at all is possibly the epic ring and, um, they're blood elves. I think their staff reward is now better than the Aldor one for casters now that Spellpower is in place too.  But there's the "can't be arsed" factor to consider as well as the redundancy in actually doing so.

EDIT: oh, and thanks for the replies - especially your nicely succinct and to the point post, WUA.

The exalted aldor/scryer shoulder enchants are equal to the WOTLK equivalent of being Honored with the aldor/scryers.  Thus, you wont replace them until exalted with a particular faction.  I'm probably going to stock up on shoulder enchant mats because I don't see myself hitting exalted with them before I'm running Naxx.

I suggest you go scryer because the scryer base in SMV is more convenient for doing Netherwing dailies.

If he's starting from zero he may as well wait and do the Lich King factions, rather than repeatedly leaving Northrend to go grind obsolete rep against grey mobs.

Most classes can grind either faction in about 4 hours now. Just farm the manaforges in Netherstorm or the Legion hold in SMV depending on which faction you are working on.

4 hours from what? Neutral? Friendly?

Bah honored I think....where you stop getting rep for handing in shat'tar quests and low level turnin items.

Yeah, you have more interesting things you could be doing than grinding those factions.

Plus I don't remember what the shoulder enchant costs, but it's not like you're going to go back and buy it again everytime you upgrade your shoulders in Lich King.

They're cheap iirc. Certainly worth hopping over to shattrath for assuming there's a speedy way back like there is for BC.

except you buy them with the tokens you get from arcane tomes/fel armament, so unless you already have a stockpile of them...

I think I have enough to last me the next 4 years or so. Still have a falcon's call in the bank as well. I wonder if the item you  get to do the enchant stacks. I could pre-buy a bunch.

Which enchant? The shoulder one or Falcon's Call?  The Shatt shoulder ones stack but Falcon's Call needs the voodoo doll and Primal Hakkari Idol off of the optional bosses in ZG.  Neither of those stack and the doll is unique anyway.

It's worth thinking about; AFAIK the shoulder enchants are off of a slow daily quest faction at level 80 in WotLK - slow in that there are only a few dailies for it so you will take a month+ to get there probably. Maybe they'll change it, you never know.

Ya bad phrasicing on my part. I mean the aldor/scryer ones. If they stack I think I will stock up. Falcon's call I doubt I'll bother getting another. Just tossed that in to show I go through enchants kind of slowly. heh

The scryer/ aldor enchant currency you'll have a metric ton of if you're factioning-up.  The fastest way is Fel armaments/ Arcane Tomes.  Turning those in gives you currency in a 1:1 ratio.  You need 8 for the exalted enchant and 2 for the honored enchant.  I'm sitting on ~24 in my bank at the moment because buying 40 Fel armaments was cheaper than buying 560 marks to hit exalted.

I've gone through so many iterations of shoulders for different roles on my warrior that I actually had to buy more armaments the other day. :(

I get a steady supply of both kinds of shoulder enchant turn in item from Daily Island.

You know, the place you wont go to for arbitrary reasons  :oh_i_see:

I almost never get tomes or fel armaments during the course of doing those dailies. :(

I just turned in a lot of scryer thingies (almost 1000) and got halfway through revered on an alt.  Now I can't remember why I thought that was a good idea.
