I plan on purchasing everything on Friday. This will initially be loaded with Vista just to test out media center, but will probably end up just running XP. I have a PSU and Case already. This is a generic family PC so it will be used for just about everything. Hooked up to a 2408 Dell monitor. Anything I should consider changing? Is a Sound Card worth purchasing? I haven't ever felt like I was missing something using onboard audio. Should I pick up any aftermarket cooling? Unless you're some kind of hardcore audio freak, integrated sound is more than good enough. As for the fan, I will tell you from experience that the HSF you get with that E8500 will feel all kinds of twisted dirty wrong when you go to install. However, unless you're planning on overclocking, don't bother with replacing it. Other than feeling flimsy when installing the thing, it works fine. I think that varies from board to board. I know that the integrated audio on my Gigabyte board absolutely blows, and the one I had before on my Asus ASN32 also was terrible. I'm no audiophile either, but the difference was pretty significant. I figure worse case scenario I'm out 100 for another motherboard, but best case is I save 50-60 dollars. So I was willing to take a chance on the board. I have that Spinpoint F1, very very fast transfer rates debating making it my primary drive as it benches faster. It was a fucking nightmare. Every mobo I had before that was an ASUS and worked perfect. Maybe they just had a few bad years?
