I like the Ramones cover best, though. Well, that and I love the Ramones in general. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Yegolev on October 06, 2008, 11:33:14 AM A good Family Guy? I'll have to check the TiVo.

Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: K9 on October 06, 2008, 12:38:39 PM One of Seth's best efforts for sure. I still don't find family guy laugh-out-loud funny though.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Evildrider on October 06, 2008, 01:29:48 PM I'm not a huge family guy fan.. it was great at the beginning but it got old quick. There are some diamonds in the rough though, like this last episode. The only thing I didn't like was the whole Jesus part put into the story, if they would have made it all about the bird it would have been a totally :awesome_for_real: episode.
American Dad imo is Mcfarlane's best work. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Abagadro on October 06, 2008, 04:36:15 PM Dang, missed last night's ep. Does Cartoon Network still re-run these a week or two after they air on Fox?

Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: raydeen on January 05, 2010, 08:20:03 AM The adult swim bump was probably one of the awesomest things ever. I have to admit, it threw me for a few seconds. Granted I was dividing my attention between FG and WoW, but for a second or two I really had to think hard as to what day and time it was. I was thinking 'Wait, did I change the channel at the commercial break? I don't think I did...' Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Slyfeind on January 05, 2010, 09:10:19 AM My TV changed the channel automatically because of the DVR, and I didn't know it was a new episode, so when that [adult swim] thing happened I literally didn't know what channel it was on until the end of the commercials. I WAS FREAKING OUT!
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Merusk on January 05, 2010, 03:56:20 PM Anyone seen Something, Something, Something Darkside? Yeah, I got it for Christmas. Not as good as Blue Harvest, but still pretty funny. I'll have to watch it a few more times to really form a firmer opinion of it. My take away from the first viewing was that the source material was treated with too much reverence, and that there wasn't as much corny stuff to mine jokes from since it's such a tight movie. I can't even remember a lot of the jokes because they weren't as amusing as Han taking off with the couch from the Death Star. (They do question the same thing I've always questioned, though. WTF is Lando wearing Han's clothes at the end?!) Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: NowhereMan on January 06, 2010, 02:22:19 PM Yeah it had some nice moments and funny bits but it really seemed more like an homage, mild pastiche of Empire than Family Guy but with the Star Wars plotline.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: WayAbvPar on January 06, 2010, 02:29:10 PM SSSDS is pretty good. It got better the 2nd time I watched it (I missed the R2/Cleveland 'running with this' joke the first time through since I wasn't looking at the screen). Wish they would have done better with Yoda, though.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Tannhauser on January 09, 2010, 04:11:37 AM Anyone seen Something, Something, Something Darkside? Yeah, I got it for Christmas. I can't even remember a lot of the jokes because they weren't as amusing as Han taking off with the couch from the Death Star. (They do question the same thing I've always questioned, though. WTF is Lando wearing Han's clothes at the end?!) Well Han was captured and Lando escaped with only the clothes on his back. So his wardrobe choices are limited to what's on the Falcon. I'm just making this shit up though. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Slyfeind on January 09, 2010, 11:54:13 AM That actually makes perfect sense, and adds an extra level of depth to the character. :ye_gods:
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Slyfeind on January 09, 2010, 12:00:12 PM I mean really, Han and Lando grew up together, they both went through a dirty rotten smuggler phase, then grew into respectable adults. And yet, when the chips were down, Han was willing to be tortured and killed for his beliefs, while Lando just sold out.
Lando tried to make ammends by getting Leia and others out of there, but in the process, left everything he had behind; figuratively and literally. Next thing we see, Lando has taken Han's place, looking up to his old friend, following in his footsteps, and donning the shell Han wore in the past. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on September 27, 2010, 09:19:29 AM NECRO!
The season opener was last night, and it was a parody of "And Then There Were None" where most of the town shows up at a mansion for a dinner party in their honor. Then, people start getting murdered. I liked the episode, but it was going for suspense as much as it was going for funny. It really tried to hit on a lot of the stupid mystery cliches while still tossing in the penis jokes. If you like Family Guy, you like a penis/fart joke. I would give it a solid B. Good pacing, good story, but it was trying to do a lot of things at once without hitting all the funny highlights. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Triforcer on September 27, 2010, 06:53:59 PM Fun, but just like the second Star Wars parody, they almost played this TOO straight. The camera angles and things like that were very clever, as was the opening- in a subtle homage sort of way.
And I guess since the episode was "canon" they couldn't . There was one unresolved mystery- Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on September 28, 2010, 01:37:59 PM I think they did play a lot of it pretty straight as well, but there were some very good moments. The balcony scene tongue-in-cheek dialogue from the killer POV shot was awesome, as well as the huddling, the reasons they all hated the host, and Consuela as the butler/maid. It was very creative in their adaptation even though they stayed on the rails without any of the usual cutaways.

Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on September 30, 2010, 08:20:25 AM I'd have a quick reference to her wearing a Martha Stewart ankle bracelet thing and then continue as if nothing happened. Yeah that would probably work. They shot Lois like 40 times in dumped her in the Ocean, and she still lived in that "simulation." Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on October 04, 2010, 02:21:42 PM They did indeed replace Diane with the blonde chick. Also, the Rush Limbaugh episode was complete crap and painfully unfunny. They really REALLY need to stay out of political stuff because it comes off as ham-fisted schlock rather than witty or incisive indictments of American politics. When we get to "messages" the comedy gets tossed out the window.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Samwise on October 04, 2010, 03:05:10 PM Also, it broke continuity. It's already been established in the Family Guy universe (and it is known to the Griffins) that Rush Limbaugh is Fred Savage.

Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on October 05, 2010, 07:00:11 AM I managed to see this episode and thought how it was an arena that Family Guy should have stayed the fuck out of. I kept trying to figure out what it was they were trying to say since it was clear to me they wanted to say something, but all I got was "putting a positive spin on Rush in time for the mid-terms." Essentially, this is the same feel I got. I was pissed first because it wasn't funny, but I was also pissed because the timing was so obvious and it was completely transparant that they were trying to make a point. I totally agree with you as well that whatever point they tried to make was lost. I also don't think for a second that Seth could stop his own politics from dominating the episode, which killed the comedy. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Ratman_tf on October 05, 2010, 12:20:31 PM This is what happens when Family Guy strays too far from manatee gags and the Chicken and Peter fighting for 15 minutes straight.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on October 05, 2010, 02:43:14 PM This is what happens when Family Guy strays too far from manatee gags and the Chicken and Peter fighting for 15 minutes straight. The sad part was they even included a song, which is usually gold, but this one was just vanilla. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Merusk on October 05, 2010, 03:24:33 PM I managed to see this episode and thought how it was an arena that Family Guy should have stayed the fuck out of. I kept trying to figure out what it was they were trying to say since it was clear to me they wanted to say something, but all I got was "putting a positive spin on Rush in time for the mid-terms." My take on it was Mr. Murdoch caught an episode and said "Wtf is this bullshit. This isn't in-line with what I want on our networks. GIVE ME WHAT I WANT." So they did a throw-away episode to counter all the left-sided stuff that the show usually does and let Rupert go back to ignoring them while reaping the profits. (I'm still waiting for them to catch on that Stewey's homosexual imaginary friend & teddybear is named the same as the chariman of the board.) Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Tannhauser on October 06, 2010, 03:33:35 AM I've switched to watching Rubicon. I've watched FG since it started but it's just ran out of gas. The mystery episode got ONE good laugh out of me (the Jew in Texas). One laugh an hour isn't worth my time.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Cadaverine on October 06, 2010, 04:26:58 PM While it is getting stale, my biggest gripe w/ FG is when they drag gags out way too long. Like Peter and the Chicken fighting.
Speaking of Peter. I know he's supposed to be a bumbling dumbass, but it's to the point where it's so obnoxious that I just want to punch McFarlane. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Selby on October 06, 2010, 09:40:18 PM Speaking of Peter. He went from being a bumbling guy who at least tried (but usually failed) to such a drooling idiot you wonder how he remembers to breath. I see Peter moving this direction too and it's not that thrilling to me.Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on October 11, 2010, 11:53:34 AM While it is getting stale, my biggest gripe w/ FG is when they drag gags out way too long. I thought the last episode where he finds out Carter is having an affair had some funny moments. The attempt to blackmail him by treating his hot tub as a toilet, the stab at French police sirens sounding like a gay threesome, and Peter trying to develop catchphrases were all really funny. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Ratman_tf on October 11, 2010, 06:23:40 PM I thought the last episode where he finds out Carter is having an affair had some funny moments. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: WayAbvPar on October 12, 2010, 11:22:08 AM Caught the Limbaugh ep last night on Adult Swim. Mostly unfunny, but there were a couple of laughs. Also, I was wrong about Diane- She is 'DEAD!', according to Ollie.
Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on November 08, 2010, 08:10:59 AM Halloween episode was predictable and not good. I was very on board with the idea since I've loved all the FOX animated takes on Halloween over the years, but this one fell on it's face.
Funniest moment, Stewie firing wildly into the crowd of trick-or-treaters with a machine gun before he figures out that they are not under attack by real monsters. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Evildrider on November 24, 2013, 10:02:14 PM Dragging this thread back from the dead because....

Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Merusk on November 25, 2013, 04:40:25 PM Many a blogger is speculating this is McFarlane sabotaging the show so he can move on. He's made it known he's tired of it and wants to do other things, and I'll admit I had the same thought when I realized this was 'for realz.' It'd be incredibly stupid of him since all his other endeavors have been flops, but hey, everyone makes rash decisions.
Given the angst and rage and whining I've seen around it, this certainly could be the final nail in the coffin. I said earlier in this thread it felt like he was doing more and more to flip the viewer the bird with the random non-narrative tangents. (i.e. the whole Conway Twitty number, later followed by the entire "Dancing in the Streets" vid) None of those did anything but strengthen the remaining viewers, though. This doesn't seem to be getting the same 'ha ha, way to break TV expectations' forgiveness. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Paelos on November 25, 2013, 04:51:02 PM Vinny is a complete Italian stereotype, too. He's a legitimate bit player character, like Quagmire, but as a full time family member? I would need more depth that didn't come off well in the first episode.
If this is Seth sabatoging the show, it's an odd way to do it. If that's what he's doing, it's also very strange that he would kill off the character that actually holds his real voice, almost like he's killing a part of himself. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Trippy on November 25, 2013, 05:00:49 PM Q&A about this with executive producer Steve Callaghan:

Meh, he's got another new show coming to Fox next year. I doubt Seth is tired of all the wheelbarrows of money that he's making, that he'd intentionally kill off Family Guy. Title: Re: Family Guy Post by: Ruvaldt on November 25, 2013, 08:49:48 PM It'd be incredibly stupid of him since all his other endeavors have been flops, but hey, everyone makes rash decisions. Ted was the exact opposite of a flop. A budget of $50,000,000 and a US box office of over $200,000,000. That's not counting DVD or international. American Dad is also on its ninth season, and he has Bordertown about to premier. He's also currently directing/acting/writing in his second feature film. He isn't sabotaging anything. Even with Family Guy he's been able to do all of the above and more.
