Oh my gah, I'm so excited! I won a regional pizza contest sponsored by Bolla Wines of Italy (http://www.bolla.com/taste.aspx) last month. It was my first entry into a real recipe competition, and I took first place! That is, first out of the 8 western states.  :drillf:

Now comes the big stuff, though. Bolla Wines (http://www.bolla.com/taste.aspx) is sending one grand prize winner to either Naples, Italy or Paris, France to tour Bolla's winery and attend the International Pizza Championship! Thirty percent (30%) of the judging will be based on internet voting. This is where I need your help.

I feel like such a fucking shill doing this, but seriously, people. A free trip to Europe? Please, please help me! I'll be your best friend! All you have to do is go to the Bolla Wines website (click the hotlink (http://www.bolla.com/taste.aspx)) and enter your birthdate (if you're under 21, you'll have to just cheer for me instead). Then select my pizza with a 4-pizza rating! You only have until October 15, so you should do it now before you forget. Again, bend me over and call me Sally, I feel like such a whore right now. But it's a free trip to Europe. A FREE TRIP TO EUROPE.

My pizza is chanterelle with arugula-pumpkin seed pesto and chevre. Tomorrow or this weekend I'll make it and post it so you can see how yummeh it is. Everyone who reads my blog knows this is a typical flavor profile for me (I'da used nettle pesto if it weren't so difficult for the average household to procure), and I'm staying true to the gizzame by entering this recipe. I'm so flattered to have been selected.  :drillf:

My pizza represents the Pacific Northwest perfectly. The only thing that could make it any more PNW is if there were salmon, huckleberries and hazelnuts on it. Which everyone knows is a fucking nasty pizza.

VL, I voted for you, and honestly so. The others were just too inauthentic, somehow. Corn meal pizza? Pulled pork? Chipotle? Folks, there's only so much you can do to a pizza before it just stops being one.

That corn pizza actually sounds good.. but then again i'm from IN.. and I mean I can reach out my bedroom window and get corn.  lol

Sadly they closed their last restaurant in the Bay Area a few years back but Vicolo's pizzas with their corn meal crust was awesome. They used to have a restaurant down on the Peninsula close to where I used to live and I was a :sad_panda: when they closed that one. They have frozen and refrigerated versions of their pizzas now but it's not the same.

well, ok. I admit that just last night I had a frozen cornmeal crust pizza. It was pretty good. Still, I'd prefer VL's creation :)

The Cornhusker pizza looked yummy until I saw the basil pesto sauce which I think would overwhelm everything but the bacon (VL was clever to use something other than basil for her pesto to create a better balance). The seafood pizza sounded incredibly bland. The peach and pulled pork was just weird, with way too many ingredients. Pulled pork by itself might have been nice, though. The Chiptole one looked tasty but it looked like it has the same problem I have with most "Tex-Mex" pizzas have in that they taste like Tex-Mex food with an alternate starch delivery vehicle rather than a pizza with Tex-Mex flavors.

Well I've tried to vote for you VL but some combination of firefox, the webpage in question and the phase of the moon means that page will not work for me properly, sorry :/

OMG that sounds fantastic. 2 of my favorite foods! I haven't had enough huckleberry exposure to rate them as a favorite, but I love pretty much every other kind of berry (save dingle).
