Title: IA.com Mech game Lore:Aftermath pre-selecting beta testers
Post by: Stephen Zepp on September 24, 2008, 07:06:34 AM
re: http://forum.beta.instantaction.com/smf/index.php/topic,5355.0.html

Lore is opening up the request list for closed beta testers on the InstantAction platform. This will be a "true beta", where user feedback is strongly valued when presented logically. The game has been in standalone private beta outside of the IA framework for the last several months, so they will be looking for primarily IA integration feedback and bugs, but will also listen to game feedback with the expanded audience.

As I mentioned with Blur, normally tester priority is given to active and helpful IA forum members first, but getting your name on the list early can't hurt if you're interested.

You need to block the giant GIF's on your forums.

Also, is this an update to lore, or just a port?

Not quite sure what you mean--the ads? Or the attachments in the message itself?

It's pretty much a ground-up re-write. The developers have stated that Lore:Aftermath is what they wanted the original to be, but didn't have the budget for.

Signatures. Also, nice to hear they are improving it.

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

"Lore: Aftermath"?

Did the title come out of some kind of random game name generator?

This (closed) beta went live this week--if you previously signed up but weren't following it, log on in!

They are still accepting testing requests for follow-on waves, but the list is growing rapidly, so if you hadn't gotten around to signing up but still want to, you might want to jump in soon.

A new marketing video came out from the MGT guys today for one of the CTF-style game types: Nuclear Winter--Reverse CTF (http://www.vimeo.com/1979780).

In the mini-nuke game mode, the goal is to capture the single nuke in the level, and deploy it in the enemy's base area.

How customizable are the mechs in appearance and load-out?  I don't want to beta test due to not having the time nor inclination these days, but graphically it looks like it would be a nice updated take on the MechWarrior games.

It's like GarageGames is dedicated to remaking my favorite games from the 90s

The Mav lab allows you to select a chassis, then configure all of the weapons, armor, special mods, etc. with a drag and drop interface. Mavs have a set number of battlepoints that are available for a particular configuration, and there are some derived statistics for a mech (speed/acceleration being one set) that are dependent on the total layout of your Mav.

Right now, nose decals and other minor customizations are available for end user detailing, and you can select the paint scheme for the Mav itself based on a set of choices. I',m not sure if this will be expanded any more deeply.

Here is a Video of the Mav Lab (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnVQbByR2gc) as of the last recording. It's been tweaked a bit since this video, but it's substantially the same.

Thanks.  That's pretty nice.  Some of the weapon options seem fixed by location, but that will annoy me less in a non-Mechwarrior game.  Definately will be worth checking out when it's released.

For those that were interested, Lore is now in open beta on www.instantaction.com.

Basic gameplay is free (and will remain so), although you can purchase some advanced weapons and the ability to save more than 1 custom mav save slot.
