There's alot of talk that this is probably one of Kevin Smith's best movies.  As a fan of Smith and Rogen, I'm hoping it's just   :awesome_for_real:.

I love the trailer. Katie Morgan nude? You can find that eezy-peezy on the Internet in like two seconds.

I really badly wanted to see Elizabeth Banks nude. I can see Traci Lords legally nude at 17, who gives a shit about her or Katie.

Saw Kevin Smith live last night and the man is probably the greatest self-promotor there is going right now. Having said that, he talked quit a bit about the appeals with the MPAA and how he won them. Was rather interesting.

Then some guy got up to ask him a question and got so nervous his nose began to bleed and it went downhill from there.

If he's not playing another fucking stoner, I might watch it.  I'm so sick of Seth Rogan it hurts.  Too bad though, looks kinda funny.

You gotta love mormons.  The local chain of theaters owned by Larry Miller  won't book this because it has "inappropriate" content, but they are showing Saw V. 

All the commercials I have seen for this just call it Zack and Miri... the trailers are also cut so much you really can't even tell what its supposed to be about.

Really?  All the commercials I've seen call it "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and even cover some of the relevant plot lines.. like ".. this is what causes some people to do nudie flicks" and "... all my favorites were always based on movies. Call it Star Whores" "Fool, Han Solo and Princess Leia never got it on!"

This is likely more of a "which channel are you watching when you saw the ad, and what timeslot". 

And which city you live in.

Local sports channels give it the full name and trailer, local WB (or whatever that network is now) calls it Zack and Miri, and is playing a trailer that makes it look like generic romantic comedy 101.

Yeah, same here.  I mean, it's cut so badly you can hardly tell what it is about except for one chick dropping her jacket, but even then it seems an out of place scene in the trailer.

I'm looking forward to the news stories this is going to generate.  A bunch of kids who bought tickets to High School Musical 3 and got shown Sex Drive instead made national news.
It was lead in locally as "Children trying to see Disney movie in theater shown an ADULT FILM INSTEAD!!!! Details at 10."  This actually has the word porno in it.  I'm expecting churches to boycott or hand out abstinence pamphlets or whatever those crazies do whenever someone says the word porno.

This country is so fucked up.  It's fine to see someone beheaded with a chainsaw, but god forbid my 12 year old sees a nipple.

It's not like this will be the first time a Kevin Smith movie has pissed off the fundies.

Well, you see it's perfectly logical, Nebu.  Chainsaw murders kill so the damage done to society is instant.  The emotional scarring and collateral trauma from viewing a nipple can go on for decades!


I saw this cut watching Pushing Daisies with the daughter last night.  Yeah, completely different commercial.. wow.  I guess all the others I saw on Comedy Central or Adult Swim.

Clerks 2 may have had a guy fucking donkey in it, but it didn't have the word porno in the title. IN THE TITLE! RIGHT WHERE CHILDREN CAN SEE! PORNO!

I think he was referring more to Dogma.

I'm pretty sure the wingnuts are somewhat tolerant of people poking fun at their religion itself, I didn't hear about any protests or the like when Religulous came out a few weeks ago, it's not like they're muslims.

No, there was a push by the Catholic church to try and ban Dogma when it came out.   They also distributed flyers in the Church explaining how you were a bad Catholic if you saw it and that the movie was a heresy, IIRC.

There was a HUGE stink about Dogma from the Catholics. The only one who had their panties bunched about the donkey fucking was that film critic from ABC that just died recently.

Guess where this was: The very same theater I referenced above that won't show Zack and Miri but will show Saw V.  Larry Miller sure has his shit together. He also wouldn't show Brokeback Mountain.

I saw this last night.  It was not by any stretch Smith's best IMO, but it was a hell of a lot better than Jersey Girl, and although I missed Jay and Silent Bob it was fun to see Jason Mewes in a non-Jay role (even if it wasn't really much of a stretch).

Was kinda annoyed Elizabeth Banks didn't get naked, if only because it totally broke suspension of disbelief given the context.

Justin Long was  :drill:.  His relatively brief scene was possibly the best part of the movie.

While it had poop jokes it was actually a bit deeper than what you're making it out to be. It was just subtle. But when I watched it I was struck by how you could almost feel him working through his issues when he wrote the script. In fact, I find it parallels many of my own thoughts in this regard in that it takes a basic principle of a church and applies logic to it and then sees where it goes. IE, nowhere logical. I love that a paradox is worked in to show that if it works like the priests say, then reality can be undone.

Oh, and this is the movie that was picketed in Smith's town. He and I think Jason Mewes picketed it too with the other protesters and even got interviewed by a local reporter without him/her knowing who it was.

Funny flick if a bit uneven and predictable. Couple of parts were like hitting a brick wall going from funny to serious. But overall definitely worth a rental if you don't plan on seeing it in the theater.

Did you stay to the end? There's a clip at the end with him that was hilarious.

Man.  Nigga Rich Productions is hilarious.  Liked it, though it was kind of predictable.  Fun movie.

Fully agree on that, especially the post credit stuff. Saw it last night because Quantum was sold out 4 hours before we got to the theatre (what we get for going to a fancy downtown one, instead of a 20 screener in the burbs)

It was bumpy, and the it looked like Smith acted as the DP himself - a whole lot of camera a: person a talks, camera b: person b talks, back to camera a, ad nauseum. But... it was Smith dialogue, it was funny, yet had some warmth - over all I quite enjoyed it.

"Dogma" had the most complaints lodged about it of any film released in that year, from memory.

I also saw Zack and Miri because Bond was sold out. I was pleasantly surprised. The wife liked it too. In fact, she probably was happy Bond was sold out. The naked girl tryout scene had me dying.

Subtle is maybe the very last word that should be used to describe that movie.  :-P

Dogma might have not seemed to totally obvious and silly to non-Catholics, maybe. But Dogma was basically putting on film what every Catholic high schooler angsts about. And it's really just not that interesting.  :awesome_for_real:

Saw this on DVD this weekend and loved it. If you like pr0n, or Kevin Smith movies and can stand Seth Rogen, this is hilarious. It's a romantic comedy for guys. Worst part - seeing Seth Rogen's OOOHHHH face. Funniest (and wrongest) part - "SHE FROSTED ME LIKE A CAKE!"

Saw this the other week and must say I agree with Haemish.  It didn't really annoy me at all and there were some genuinely funny moments that don't come around too often in a movie like this.

saw it about a week ago on dvd the two disc bonus thingies version.  I enjoyed it, but I have to be honest, the bonus material was at some points more interesting than the actual film. Justin Long's parts were  :drill: and I do mean Drilling and Manliness and there is a quite a bit more of that in the bonus material.  Katie Morgan's interviews brought a smile to my face at just the sheer  :why_so_serious: of her personality.  My favorite quote from her was something along the lines of "wow, my first film thats actually being seen on a movie screen and not just straight to dvd"



It was the first Seth Rogan film I had ever seen, now after seeing Pineapple Express I can understand the dislike oh him, but he is a bit more low key in Zack and Miri.

Justin Long made the movie for me, the rest I found fairly meh and below what I am used to from Kevin Smith.

This isn't Seth Rogen's best film, better than Pineapple Express, but he puts in a much better show in Superbad, Knocked up and the 40yo Virgin.

For some reason, I alwasy forget who Justin Long is and have to look him up. Yeah, his little performance was stellar in this. In fact, he made Die Hard 4 for me as well. Maybe he'll shake the "Annoying Mac Kid" typecast.
