Title: Massive problems with alt-tabbing
Post by: Threash on September 13, 2008, 03:00:15 PM
Whenever i tab out of the game a few times, or even if someone IMs me the game goes nuts on me just randomly reloading every few minutes or gets stuck with a black screen or simply crashed.  Not to mention i have to wait almost a minute before i can do anything after alt tabbing.  AoC didn't have this problems and it was much more graphic intensive not to mention having several serious memory leaks, wtf is the problem and is there anything i can do to fix it?

Alt-tab is broken. Don't do it. If you really have to, if I remember correctly, just run in windowed mode and uncheck the border option.

I just got my first official Vista blue screen from alt-tabbing out of War.   :uhrr:

If I alt tab out in the zones it will take a while for the textures to all reload when I come back and there will be hiccups.  If I alt tab in a city I sometimes also get that black screen where nothing loads.  It sucks.

The game takes far too long to exit as well.  I also really hate how it doesn't give you an option to "quit now" but makes you wait through the twenty seconds, you can't even alt+f4.  Just let me leave and if my toon gets aggroed while I'm no longer controlling him then he dies, I understand he's vulnerable and sometimes don't really give a damn.

On a completely unrelated note, Mythic's new logo really sucks ass.

I also want to be able to skip the flying scene after I visit a flight master.

Alt-tab doesn't crash me, but it forces the textures to cycle persistently from high to low.  It's possibly worse than crashing.

This problem has been a royal pain for quite a while.  We're still working on it but we're not there yet.  Sorry bout that, I really am.

This is the wrong place to post this but it's sunday morning, beta is closed, and MJ was here so hey: is it just me or player names getting smaller and smaller in the distance is annoying as hell? I play in 1600x1200 and they become barely readable as soon as they are 40 meters away from me. The problem with more distant ones is that my eyes can't stop trying to read them, even if they are obviously too far still.

I think it's nice to simulate the fact that when someone is too distant you can't really recognize him/her until he/she is closer, but gamewise this strains my eyes which can't stop attempting to decode the very small letters as soon as they appear over the horizon.

Finally, the better your screen resolution, the more readable they are (the easier it is for people to recognize friends/foes beside just the red colored name). Is this any fair?

I run Vista and when I tab out then back in a few secs later everythings OK.  But if I tab out for any period of time and come back in the screen is black and I only get the pointer.

I actually much prefer it this way, honestly.  WoW does the same thing, most other MMOs don't from what I can remember.  Personal preference I guess.

I guess you are right but I don't remember it being annoying at all in WoW. Can't try it now (that would imply resubbing..  :ye_gods: ) but I wonder if the font, or the the way names are rendered (?) is different and not-that-good in WAR unless you are playing in 1900+ screen resolution.

I could forgive the names for getting smaller if it wasn't so freaking impossible to target someone who is moving.

They really need to put in a keypress that actually target something close to your cursor. Leading a target in a 10 v 10 is bad enough but doing it while in open RvR is quite frustrating. Or maybe a macro that target [insert class] here would be nice.

I would kill for an assist that lets me target whoever my offensive target is targeting. I had way too much trouble targeting people I wanted to heal as my warrior priest in RvR. :(

There is something weird about the tab targetting as well.  Whether its just other games have done it 'smarter' or there reeally is something wrong with it but it often doesn't seem to target the mob thats right infront of you  or the second one that is attacking you or whatever.  I keep tab selecting mobs way in the distance rather than the ones right up close.

Press N then use Tab.

Make sure windowed resolution is set to your desktop setting as well. This fixed my problems.
