Title: Big Bang Theory Post by: Evildrider on September 09, 2008, 01:10:42 PM Maybe it's because I'm a nerd at heart, but I actually like this show. It's not the best, but damn I get some good laughs out of it. It was a surprise new show from last season. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: HaemishM on September 09, 2008, 01:27:03 PM Love Big Bang Theory. The show is absolutely made by Sheldon's character and the actor who plays him. It doesn't hurt that the chick is so smoking hot, but most of the funny is Sheldon or the others reacting to Sheldon.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Evildrider on September 09, 2008, 01:27:59 PM Indeed.. plus all the Roseanne cameos are cool too.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Merusk on September 09, 2008, 04:52:35 PM This show bothers me. Mainly because I see it as more of an underscoring of the "Nerds can't be social" and "Education is for dweebs" culture that's killing the US.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: LanTheWarder on September 27, 2008, 07:19:08 PM I have to admit I didn't like this show at all after the pilot, but it's grown on me and the first episode of season 2 was hilarious.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Evildrider on October 07, 2008, 06:48:39 PM Heh, in the newest episode Penny, the girl next door, gets addicted to playing AoC after being introduced to the game by Sheldon.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Amarr HM on October 07, 2008, 07:00:41 PM I too like this show it's good fun.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Trippy on October 07, 2008, 10:10:13 PM Heh, in the newest episode Penny, the girl next door, gets addicted to playing AoC after being introduced to the game by Sheldon. They had an earlier one with her playing Halo and kicking Sheldon's ass.Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: LanTheWarder on October 08, 2008, 05:20:11 AM "Sheldor The Conqueror"
That was an awesome episode. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: schild on October 08, 2008, 08:39:05 AM Shows with laughtracks should die.
Also, mathspergers isn't funny. I'm gonna finish season 1, but this is like a modern napoleon dynamite. Nerds aren't like this. Sorry. Fail. 10 Flavors of Fail. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Amarr HM on October 09, 2008, 06:49:01 AM Nah it's good lighthearted fun nothing more, that said I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it and definitely wouldn't buy the boxset so I suppose it fits in the slightly better than mediocre category.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tebonas on October 09, 2008, 07:17:33 AM Maybe it changes with location, but around here Nerds are like this. Not the "Sheldon over the top" kind, but the rest of them.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Brogarn on October 09, 2008, 07:18:38 AM I watch it but don't record it. It's ok but not good enough to warrant DVR space. I agree that Sheldon makes that show. Without him, it's pretty much not funny at all. Penny can be pretty funny too, but really... it's all about Sheldon.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Evildrider on October 09, 2008, 01:17:39 PM It's good for what it is.. there aren't alot of sitcoms I can actually stomach on TV anymore, but this is one of them.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: RUiN 427 on October 24, 2008, 01:56:12 PM warning schild, the last part of season 1 blows because the writers who actually had real nerd references were on strike or about to strike. Season 2 is much better with the in jokes and accurate refences to quantum physics ( see penny discussing Schrödinger's cat to her date )
also the episode where penny becomes a mmo addict is pretty funny, even if they used AoC. http://www.cbs.com/primetime/big_bang_theory/video/video.php?cid=501654023&pid=QnoVk4hQUb__Y7rhNPwJQ5x4tvxFU_oJ&play=true&cc=2 count how many times in an episode they position penny with her tits conveniently visable in every camera angle within a scene Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Jeff Kelly on November 19, 2008, 05:24:16 AM This week's episode was great. They keep getting better and better.

Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: raydeen on February 01, 2009, 08:06:40 AM The thing that blows me away about this show is all the really esoteric things that turn up in it. Like Sheldon (think it was Sheldon) wearing a t-shirt with the Greatest American Hero symbol on it. That was just badass nerdery. That and original stuff like Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock and an actual explanation of how those rules work. My daughter and I just absolutely collapse into tears with this show.
And um...Penny doesn't hurt things either. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Cheddar on February 02, 2009, 06:46:21 PM They were playing Talisman in tonights episode. I exploded in my pants in a nerdgasm.
Genius. :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Righ on February 02, 2009, 07:08:50 PM They were playing Talisman in tonights episode. I didn't recognise it. I have a first edition. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 07, 2009, 05:28:17 AM Yeah the Talisman reference was cool. In a nerd way. Good show but I am not a huge fan. I'm a huge fan of Penny's rack though!
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: chargerrich on February 10, 2009, 09:47:48 AM Heh, in the newest episode Penny, the girl next door, gets addicted to playing AoC after being introduced to the game by Sheldon. I'd lick the salt anywhere off Penny. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: shiznitz on February 24, 2009, 10:47:13 AM Penny might be a 10 in Nerdland but she is a solid 6 compared to most attractive TV actresses.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 25, 2009, 03:34:02 AM Penny's a 6? Pardon ME Mr. Hefner!
Enjoyed the last repeat. Leonard dates a fat chick and not one joke about her size. It was strangely refreshing to see a more 'realistic' couple on TV. Oh and the jewish mom was hilarious. "I've got a coupon!" Going to start recording this show. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: lamaros on October 12, 2009, 11:53:44 PM Laugh track and half the characters being neither funny nor hot makes this show pretty unwatchable.
It seems I'm on an agreeing with schild trend recently... Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on October 13, 2009, 12:47:44 AM Over here, we do not get this 'laugh track' of which you speak.
I have noticed previously that Americans will take a perfectly good British Show, like M*A*S*H and then ruin it by putting lolz all over it. It's like you need cues to laugh. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Bunk on October 13, 2009, 10:56:11 AM M*A*S*H was a live audience if I remember correctly. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: schild on October 13, 2009, 12:01:47 PM Over here, we do not get this 'laugh track' of which you speak. My wife went out and bought my son the latest fashion (he is almost 2) and that included the "look" of long sleeve with short sleeve shirt, but in reality its a single outfit.
And Goddamnit, he looks good. I am jealous! Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: schild on November 17, 2009, 11:01:24 PM This last episode was amazing.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Xuri on November 18, 2009, 12:28:50 AM I liked how the episode was (but wasn't) about a meteor shower and ran on the same day that the Leonids Meteor Shower peaked in the real world.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Jeff Kelly on November 18, 2009, 03:56:02 AM It's really weird that the performance of certain actors varies depending on who they are working with.
Kaley Cuoco is really great when she's paired with Jim Parsons and really bad when she's paired with Johnny Galecki. Another example is House where Olivia Wilde is great when she has to work with Hugh Laurie and really bad when she has to work with Omar Epps Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Signe on November 18, 2009, 06:35:54 AM The only name in that whole post I know is Hugh Laurie. Sheesh. It's getting as confusing around here as it is when I accidentally watch one of those celebrity shows! At least they have pics, though, so there's half a chance I'll recognise the faces.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Bunk on November 19, 2009, 06:17:28 AM This last episode was amazing. Where you eating the cookies while you watched it? A couple of the bits with Sheldon and Penny were cute, but the entire camping sequence was the worst example of over the top sitcom cliche I've seen in years. Maybe next week they can get stuck in a freezer and remember all the crazy things that happened to them over the last two years! The show works for me, because even though it uses established sitcom principles, at least it has the whole technology/nerd culture twist to keep it fresh. I didn't feel any of that in the last episode. Also, it felt like a 50s sitcom approach to how pot affects you. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on November 19, 2009, 05:44:28 PM "I'm gonna lose the arm." Funnay! Good episode, but yeah the camping parts were meh. Looks like they are making Sheldon a bit more normal. Wheaton! Decent episode, like that Penny and Leonard are having trouble. I like that they bring back characters, glad to see Wheaton up to his Sheldon-tormenting. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Der Helm on October 01, 2011, 06:23:21 AM RISE!
God, I love this show. If you don't like it, you hate fun. (or have an (advanced?) degree in the liberal arts) Can't wait for Penny and Leonard getting together again, though. We all know its inevitable, right ? Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on October 01, 2011, 01:22:15 PM The female additions to the cast have been great, even Pryia. I think Amy is about ready for sex and it just ain't gonna happen with Sheldon. Just great, funny relationships all around. But yeah, Leonard and Penny is the heart of the show. A bit surprised Sheldon put the train engine in his mouth, he must have been cleaning it for two hours.
Oh and Bernadette's yelling was priceless! Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Der Helm on October 01, 2011, 02:53:06 PM Yeah. Sheldon does show some very odd behavior this season, I hope they writers don't go full retard. I felt him to be way out of character in the last episode (The train incident  )

:awesome_for_real: Friend recommended this show to me, laugh track is annoying but some bits are just awesome. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on April 13, 2012, 03:12:42 AM It helps that one is the best episode they've ever done.
Watched the 100 special behind the scenes and it was interesting to see the live audience laughing. They did sound exactly like a laugh track. Strange. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: K9 on April 13, 2012, 04:36:21 AM This show is just so easy to watch.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Azazel on April 17, 2012, 04:29:22 AM I'll give it that. Since I finished the last episode, I've been watching my way through The IT Crowd, which is funny in a different way - Over the top UK humour. Kind of like Black Books, only not as good. or as good as BBT. And the geek references in ITC also feel much less authentic.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: K9 on February 01, 2013, 07:25:39 AM This season feels really good so far, and I'm glad that they're actually moving the plotlines on a bit. The overall story had felt a bit slow for a while.
The episode where Amy fakes illness so that Sheldon will take care of her was both a bit tragic, but also deeply amusing I thought. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 01, 2013, 08:01:16 AM Love this show. Last night's episode was great with some real insight into Sheldon. Also glad the plotlines are going forward, slow is fine, no need to rush things.
Howard was great as usual and I love the dynamic between him and Bernadette. Even Leonard, who is usually relegated to feeding Sheldon lines, had a couple of great ones. Also the return of Kripkie was surprisingly welcome. That actor dialed down Kripkie's attitude and it was fun. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: MahrinSkel on February 01, 2013, 08:44:05 AM Usually in sitcoms, the characters become more caricatures as time goes on, this one has been unique that the characters started out one-dimensional and have gained depth.

Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: WayAbvPar on February 01, 2013, 09:25:20 AM Which is pretty much what happens in real life to people in their 30s these days.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Merusk on February 01, 2013, 01:35:13 PM I have to keep remembering these people are supposed to be in their mid/ late 20's. Penny said she was 22 in one of the early seasons, making her only 28 now. While Kaley Cuoco actually is that age she looks to be in her early/ mid 30's to me. Which reminds me that Parsons is a year older and Galecki a year younger than me.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 01, 2013, 02:28:29 PM FWIW, a recent episode stated Sheldon's age at 29.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: K9 on February 02, 2013, 01:49:31 PM I'd be happy if they spun this on for another couple of seasons which ended with them all getting married, getting tenure and settling down.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: shiznitz on February 04, 2013, 01:30:10 PM I think they should all go up in the space launch powered by a faulty engine designed by Howard and be blown to bits. That is how a sit come should end, even on that I like.

We're a month behind in the UK and just had this episode. One thing I don't understand... does Amy's revelation about Raiders come as a surprise to everyone because that was all kind of obvious. Obvious if you think about it... but most people that watch BBT saw the movie at such a young age that it would never occur to them, and once the movie is seared into you mind, you stop looking for this type of stuff. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on November 21, 2013, 02:04:39 PM Spoiled in the sense that Indy doesn't affect the outcome of the movie. I thanked Amy because I won't look at the movie the same way ever again.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on November 21, 2013, 02:51:57 PM It was never about what happened, but how anyway.

I thanked Amy because I won't look at the movie the same way ever again. That's what I don't get - how were you looking at the movie? Because aside from a couple of scenes, nothing ever really goes right for Indy all the way through - from the opening moments right through to the end. I'm not having a dig or meaning to be rude - I'm just genuinely surprised. Basically, if it wasn't for this thread, I'd have thought the joke in BBT was that the uber-intelligent geeks didn't get that? Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Evildrider on November 21, 2013, 04:39:01 PM I'm sure if Raiders was a newly released movie you'd have about 50+ pages of people bitching about it. :awesome_for_real:
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Pennilenko on November 21, 2013, 05:30:48 PM Some of you guys are silly. Raiders was always meant to be a feel good caricature of American pop culture involving Americans kicking Nazi ass.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: jgsugden on November 21, 2013, 09:50:02 PM I think that jgsugden guy had a brilliant point above. We should all hail him for his wisdom.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Margalis on November 21, 2013, 10:12:46 PM Nazis harnessing the power of God was never going to work.
I don't see this as a problem at all - in fact it's a good thing. Raiders is a movie about minor victories and setbacks in the context of something that dwarfs man. I love religious horror and other religious-themed movies that take this approach - I mean it's kind of stupid to make a movie about the power of God then have a dude with a machine gun heroically save the day. If your movie includes players like God or the Devil the humans in the movie just have to do the best they can given their meager circumstances. It doesn't work if you try to pigeonhole it into a typical Hero's Journey tale, but it works as a story about small people wrapped up in big events. What you'd get is 50 pages of people bitching about other people complaining that other people called someone a hipster for moaning at someone who objected to Ironwood saying the film was fun but the scene where Indy hitches a ride on a submarine was a bit silly. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on November 22, 2013, 02:07:52 AM Apparently the submarine thing made sense, just not in the finished version.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Merusk on November 22, 2013, 03:13:57 PM Apparently the submarine thing made sense, just not in the finished version. Yes. Plus you also have to understand that it was a U-boat not a modern submarine, so they worked differently. They could only travel about 60 miles underwater before having to surface and recharge batteries. Since their primary engines were diesel they would need fresh air, so "Underwater travel" would only be at snorkel depth and Indy lashed himself to that or the preiscope. Also WW2 wasn't ongoing, so there was no reason to burn batteries & fuel going undersea. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on November 23, 2013, 02:02:27 AM Yeah, I just couldn't be arsed typing that up.

Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on November 26, 2013, 03:25:43 AM Ok.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Merusk on November 26, 2013, 03:36:07 AM It's Bernadette's actress, Melissa Rauch. Took me a minute to get it.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on November 26, 2013, 03:46:08 AM Really ? Took me a nanosecond. For all the Cardigan nonsense, when you see her in other interviews it's quite clear that 'Bernadette' is a far cry from her actual persona.
Not entirely sure she needed to do this tho, but possibly she just really, really wanted to. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on November 26, 2013, 02:32:11 PM That makes two of us! :drill:
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on December 24, 2013, 01:23:21 PM Since Raiders is on right now, technically Jones saves Marion.
Yeah, that's pretty much it. Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ghambit on February 06, 2014, 08:21:13 PM Sheldon!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 07, 2014, 02:43:15 AM After last week's flat episode, this one was awesome. Well done BBT! *raises glass of grape juice that burns*
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Phildo on February 07, 2014, 06:16:01 AM Sheldon!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Context? Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: RhyssaFireheart on February 07, 2014, 08:29:53 AM Valentine's Day and Sheldon finally kissed Amy... and seemed to like it.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Merusk on February 07, 2014, 09:50:57 AM Since Raiders is on right now, technically Jones saves Marion. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Did he, or did he put her on edge by asking about the headpiece so she resisted Kato where she would have parted with it more reasonably without Jones' interference? Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Ironwood on February 07, 2014, 10:30:31 AM No, she'd pretty much have told them to get to fuck.
Title: Re: Big Bang Theory Post by: Tannhauser on February 07, 2014, 02:16:07 PM I was feeling pretty bad for Amy, Sheldon was calling her 'Gollum' and 'Stinky' as pet names and ignoring her on the train. Kind of hoping Amy would just dump his ass and retain a bit of self-respect. But the writers did a nice little trick there and that was a great payoff for the two characters. I can't decide if Sheldon had a plan there to kiss her it just happened. Anyway, it was a scene three years in the making and left a smile on my face.
