Maybe it's because I'm a nerd at heart, but I actually like this show.  It's not the best, but damn I get some good laughs out of it.  It was a surprise new show from last season.   :awesome_for_real:

Love Big Bang Theory. The show is absolutely made by Sheldon's character and the actor who plays him. It doesn't hurt that the chick is so smoking hot, but most of the funny is Sheldon or the others reacting to Sheldon.

This show bothers me.  Mainly because I see it as more of an underscoring of the "Nerds can't be social" and "Education is for dweebs" culture that's killing the US.

I have to admit I didn't like this show at all after the pilot, but it's grown on me and the first episode of season 2 was hilarious.

Heh, in the newest episode Penny, the girl next door, gets addicted to playing AoC after being introduced to the game by Sheldon.

I too like this show it's good fun.

They had an earlier one with her playing Halo and kicking Sheldon's ass.

Nah it's good lighthearted fun nothing more, that said I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it and definitely wouldn't buy the boxset so I suppose it fits in the slightly better than mediocre category.

Maybe it changes with location, but around here Nerds are like this. Not the "Sheldon over the top" kind, but the rest of them.

I watch it but don't record it. It's ok but not good enough to warrant DVR space. I agree that Sheldon makes that show. Without him, it's pretty much not funny at all. Penny can be pretty funny too, but really... it's all about Sheldon.

It's good for what it is.. there aren't alot of sitcoms I can actually stomach on TV anymore, but this is one of them.

warning schild, the last part of season 1 blows because the writers who actually had real nerd references were on strike or about to strike. Season 2 is much better with the in jokes and accurate refences to quantum physics ( see penny discussing Schrödinger's cat to her date )

also the episode where penny becomes a mmo addict is pretty funny, even if they used AoC.

The thing that blows me away about this show is all the really esoteric things that turn up in it. Like Sheldon (think it was Sheldon) wearing a t-shirt with the Greatest American Hero symbol on it. That was just badass nerdery. That and original stuff like Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock and an actual explanation of how those rules work. My daughter and I just absolutely collapse into tears with this show.

And um...Penny doesn't hurt things either.

They were playing Talisman in tonights episode.  I exploded in my pants in a nerdgasm.

Enjoyed the last repeat.  Leonard dates a fat chick and not one joke about her size.  It was strangely refreshing to see a more 'realistic' couple on TV.

I didn't know I'd watched so much of it (I dig the blond more than the nerds). That said, the laughtrack is probably going to be what drives me away this time. The jewish and indian friends are still horribly written. I've known lots of jewish stereotypes in my time having spent the majority of my formative years in hebrew school (that's Sunday school that happens on Monday and Wednesday AND Sunday for those who don't know) and in my community and not a single one of them strikes me as that kind of person. He is truly intolerable.

As someone posted above, it was pretty much universal in the early 1990's.  Although, lately I've seen a few long sleeve shits that were trying to look like you had a short sleeve shirt on over a long sleeve shirt but was really just had different color sleeves sewn on at the elbow..

It didn't seem to happen in Europe.  Or I didn't notice, maybe.

I'm not the most attentive observer regarding clothes, but I don't think that was a big thing in Europe either.

Laugh track and half the characters being neither funny nor hot makes this show pretty unwatchable.

I have noticed previously that Americans will take a perfectly good British Show, like M*A*S*H and then ruin it by putting lolz all over it.  It's like you need cues to laugh.

M*A*S*H was a live audience if I remember correctly. I don't mind spontaneous laughter, it's canned laughter that irritates me.

It had a laugh track in the US but not when it aired in the UK.

British TV back then could barely afford actors and a camera, overlaying sound would've destroyed the budget.

It has not gotten better since.

Evidently its the latest rage.  My wife went out and bought my son the latest fashion (he is almost 2) and that included the "look" of long sleeve with short sleeve shirt, but in reality its a single outfit.

And Goddamnit, he looks good.  I am jealous! 

This last episode was amazing.

I liked how the episode was (but wasn't) about a meteor shower and ran on the same day that the Leonids Meteor Shower peaked in the real world.

It's really weird that the performance of certain actors varies depending on who they are working with.

Kaley Cuoco is really great when she's paired with Jim Parsons and really bad when she's paired with Johnny Galecki.

Another example is House where Olivia Wilde is great when she has to work with Hugh Laurie and really bad when she has to work with Omar Epps

The only name in that whole post I know is Hugh Laurie.  Sheesh.  It's getting as confusing around here as it is when I accidentally watch one of those celebrity shows!  At least they have pics, though, so there's half a chance I'll recognise the faces.

Where you eating the cookies while you watched it? A couple of the bits with Sheldon and  Penny were cute, but the entire camping sequence was the worst example of over the top sitcom cliche I've seen in years. Maybe next week they can get stuck in a freezer and remember all the crazy things that happened to them over the last two years!

The show works for me, because even though it uses established sitcom principles, at least it has the whole technology/nerd culture twist to keep it fresh. I didn't feel any of that in the last episode. Also, it felt like a 50s sitcom approach to how pot affects you.

"I'm gonna lose the arm."  Funnay!  Good episode, but yeah the camping parts were meh.  Anyone else think the Indian guy is breaking out?

New episode was great with Raj and Sheldon double-dating.  The last scene was funny as hell.

Looks like they are making Sheldon a bit more normal.  Wheaton!  Decent episode, like that Penny and Leonard are having trouble.  I like that they bring back characters, glad to see Wheaton up to his Sheldon-tormenting.

The female additions to the cast have been great, even Pryia.  I think Amy is about ready for sex and it just ain't gonna happen with Sheldon.  Just great, funny relationships all around.  But yeah, Leonard and Penny is the heart of the show.  A bit surprised Sheldon put the train engine in his mouth, he must have been cleaning it for two hours. 

Oh and Bernadette's yelling was priceless!

Yeah. Sheldon does show some very odd behavior this season, I hope they writers don't go full retard. I felt him to be way out of character in the last episode (The train incident  :grin: )

Friend recommended this show to me, laugh track is annoying but some bits are just awesome.

It helps that one is the best episode they've ever done.

Watched the 100 special behind the scenes and it was interesting to see the live audience laughing.  They did sound exactly like a laugh track.

This show is just so easy to watch.

I'll give it that. Since I finished the last episode, I've been watching my way through The IT Crowd, which is funny in a different way - Over the top UK humour. Kind of like Black Books, only not as good. or as good as BBT. And the geek references in ITC also feel much less authentic.

This season feels really good so far, and I'm glad that they're actually moving the plotlines on a bit. The overall story had felt a bit slow for a while.

The episode where Amy fakes illness so that Sheldon will take care of her was both a bit tragic, but also deeply amusing I thought.

Love this show.  Last night's episode was great with some real insight into Sheldon.  Also glad the plotlines are going forward, slow is fine, no need to rush things. 

Howard was great as usual and I love the dynamic between him and Bernadette.  Even Leonard, who is usually relegated to feeding Sheldon lines, had a couple of great ones.  Also the return of Kripkie was surprisingly welcome.  That actor dialed down Kripkie's attitude and it was fun.

Usually in sitcoms, the characters become more caricatures as time goes on, this one has been unique that the characters started out one-dimensional and have gained depth.

I hate to even think it but this show is headed towards the dreaded "Wedding" episode in whatever season happens to be the last.

 Which is pretty much what happens in real life to people in their 30s these days.

I have to keep remembering these people are supposed to be in their mid/ late 20's.  Penny said she was 22 in one of the early seasons, making her only 28 now. While Kaley Cuoco actually is that age she looks to be in her early/ mid 30's to me.   Which reminds me that Parsons is a year older and Galecki a year younger than me.

FWIW, a recent episode stated Sheldon's age at 29.

I'd be happy if they spun this on for another couple of seasons which ended with them all getting married, getting tenure and settling down.

I think they should all go up in the space launch powered by a faulty engine designed by Howard and be blown to bits.  That is how a sit come should end, even on that I like.

Except Sheldon didn't get in cause he was afraid of the germs inside.

We saw a flash of Howard's mom last season and it was epic.  There's no way they could maintain a woman of that proportion through an entire episode.

We're a month behind in the UK and just had this episode. One thing I don't understand... does Amy's revelation about Raiders come as a surprise to everyone because that was all kind of obvious.

Obvious if you think about it... but most people that watch BBT saw the movie at such a young age that it would never occur to them, and once the movie is seared into you mind, you stop looking for this type of stuff. 

Spoiled in the sense that Indy doesn't affect the outcome of the movie.  I thanked Amy because I won't look at the movie the same way ever again. 

It was never about what happened, but how anyway.

That's what I don't get - how were you looking at the movie? Because aside from a couple of scenes, nothing ever really goes right for Indy all the way through - from the opening moments right through to the end. I'm not having a dig or meaning to be rude - I'm just genuinely surprised. Basically, if it wasn't for this thread, I'd have thought the joke in BBT was that the uber-intelligent geeks didn't get that?

Some of you guys are silly. Raiders was always meant to be a feel good caricature of American pop culture involving Americans kicking Nazi ass.

I think that jgsugden guy had a brilliant point above.  We should all hail him for his wisdom.

I don't see this as a problem at all - in fact it's a good thing. Raiders is a movie about minor victories and setbacks in the context of something that dwarfs man. I love religious horror and other religious-themed movies that take this approach - I mean it's kind of stupid to make a movie about the power of God then have a dude with a machine gun heroically save the day. If your movie includes players like God or the Devil the humans in the movie just have to do the best they can given their meager circumstances.

It doesn't work if you try to pigeonhole it into a typical Hero's Journey tale, but it works as a story about small people wrapped up in big events.

What you'd get is 50 pages of people bitching about other people complaining that other people called someone a hipster for moaning at someone who objected to Ironwood saying the film was fun but the scene where Indy hitches a ride on a submarine was a bit silly.

Plus you also have to understand that it was a U-boat not a modern submarine, so they worked differently.  They could only travel about 60 miles underwater before having to surface and recharge batteries.  Since their primary engines were diesel they would need fresh air, so "Underwater travel" would only be at snorkel depth and Indy lashed himself to that or the preiscope.  Also WW2 wasn't ongoing, so there was no reason to burn batteries & fuel going undersea.

Valentine's Day and Sheldon finally kissed Amy... and seemed to like it.

I was feeling pretty bad for Amy, Sheldon was calling her 'Gollum' and 'Stinky' as pet names and ignoring her on the train.  Kind of hoping Amy would just dump his ass and retain a bit of self-respect.  But the writers did a nice little trick there and that was a great payoff for the two characters.  I can't decide if Sheldon had a plan there to kiss her it just happened.  Anyway, it was a scene three years in the making and left a smile on my face.
