Title: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Kitsune on September 08, 2008, 01:19:10 AM http://www.youtube.com/user/WhistleBlowerZero
Okay, perhaps not just for schild, but schild's the first person to come to mind when I watched them. Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: schild on September 08, 2008, 01:52:34 AM :(
He doesn't have a voice for fast-talking. I couldn't make it through it. I skipped out the moment he said there were good brick and mortar alternatives to Gamestop. No, not at all true. The message here, kids, is don't buy used games. I'd say 'period' here, but I realize that as a last resort of with extremely rare titles, you have no choice. But then, you're not going to find Suikoden 2 sitting on a gamestop shelf. Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: FatuousTwat on September 08, 2008, 02:05:25 AM Am I the only one who found Suikoden to be fucking GREAT? I really haven't played 4 or 5(much), but 3 was amazing. I've gotta say, in my opinion, the series is superior to every other Japanese RPG series.
Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: schild on September 08, 2008, 02:39:51 AM Play Shadowhearts and Shadowhearts: Covenant. Skip From a New World (SH3).
Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: FatuousTwat on September 08, 2008, 02:51:05 AM I've watched a friend play Covenant for 5 or 6 hours, but it didn't seem too special... I'll have to borrow it.

He should just write all that down. He's absolutely horrible at the Zero Punctuation style of speaking, though he does seem to have enough of a vocabulary to make the subject mildly interesting if I just DIDN'T HAVE TO LISTEN TO HIM. Know your weaknesses, kids. Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Kitsune on September 08, 2008, 09:30:38 AM He doesn't have the voice for snappy banter, agreed, but I found it worthwhile for the content if not for the presentation. First-person stories of dumbfuckery at GameStop are entertaining to me. I worked for them myself, but it was back when they were Software Etc, before they dealt in used crap, and my working experience was pleasant and stupid-free, up until they closed the store and laid me off. It's almost as if they didn't know that putting a software store inside a Barnes & Noble was going to fail to make money.

I really haven't played 4 or 5(much), but 3 was amazing. I've gotta say, in my opinion, the series is superior to every other Japanese RPG series. I played the original. I never saw why people spooged over this series. Even more insulting was all the illusionary choice questions you could only answer one way. It was the first cracks in the JRPG genre for me. My story is more important than the pandering to Otaku developers'. And quoting the above: I loved Software Ect! I bought a third of my Commodore 64 games there, all at a discount! I still remember late Feb early March 88 when I bought my first RPG, Ultima 1. In later years I would get tons of PC games. My 486 25 didn't come with a soundcard or joystick port. I bought both there. I got my first flightstick there, the staff graciously allowing me to open up and try out a couple sticks till I found the one that worked for me. Wing Commander without a flightstick? I SAY THEE NAY. Its probably why I hate Gamesuck so badly. They took over Software Ect (same spot in the mall for 20 freaking years plus now..) and ruined it. Its the Electronic Arts of software retail. :( Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: FatuousTwat on September 08, 2008, 01:51:19 PM Software etc still exists. There is one in Clackamas Town Center, "The biggest mall in the Northwest!".
Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Kitsune on September 08, 2008, 02:18:56 PM Software Etc. exists in name only, and only at malls where they're contractually forbidden from changing the store's name. There's one faux Software Etc. in Richmond, but it's still a GameStop. As I understand it:
Software Etc. fails. Merges with Babbages to bail out, becomes GameStop, proceeds to suck worse than Software Etc or Babbages ever did. Merges with EB to remain GameStop while ruining the much-better EBGames. Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Evildrider on September 08, 2008, 02:25:10 PM Ya, I miss the old EB. The Gamestop take over is very noticeable.
Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: HaemishM on September 08, 2008, 02:47:18 PM I worked for an EB in the early '90's and believe me, corporate incompetence and shitheelery was high there. Unfortunately, Gamestop has refined it to an artform, making me miss the old EB days.
Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Strazos on September 08, 2008, 06:58:43 PM I'm convinced that someone higher up sends price changes to stores, just for the fuck of it. Hell, half the "changes" are the same fucking barcode.
Oh yeah, GS is terrible. I only buy hard-to-find shit used there, and of course we have first pick of the best of the lot. And the discount helps since i usually buy new. Title: Re: Youtube serves up Gamestop hate, just for schild. Post by: Bzalthek on September 12, 2008, 06:53:54 PM When I lived up in Virginia, we had a free paper called the Valley Trader. You could find almost anything in there. I managed to get my hands on a Sega Master System with the original Phantasy Star through that, and lots of other older games for various systems.
