I want it fiercely. In fact, I had a conversation with Velorath a few hours before that little article was posted. Nothing new there from a year ago. But there's an interview with Twohy saying they'd have to scale back and get a new company to pay for it. I'd rather them work with a Pitch Black-like budget for the next one / underverse anyway.

Awesome. I bought the Riddick trilogy the day it came out.

That movie was not anywhere near as bad as its reputation made it out to be.  It had some silliness and rough edges, but there was a lot of cool stuff in there.  I hope he does get to make more.

I'm hoping that comes true. 

I loved Pitch Black and even the Riddick sequel was decent enough.. Better than alot of the other trashy sci-fi that was coming out at the time.

I want to see more of that world.  One where evil death-worshipping space armies run around wasting planets and ripping out fucking souls, but people still talk and cuss like normal and you can apparently still buy a pack of Kools.  The shift from more or less straight-faced sci-fi monster movie in Pitch Black to outright space fantasy in Riddick seems like a contradiction, but it makes for potentially a really interesting setting.

Anyway, Riddick took in about half it's $105m budget domestically and the other half foreign, and was profitable once the DVD sales came in.  Not the kind of numbers that merit a sequel, normally, but it's always been clear that Diesel personally really wanted a trilogy out of this.  And I'm not worried about them having to cut back.  There's no reason you can't make a perfectly solid and good-looking sequel for a hell of a lot less than $105m.  Pitch Black only cost $23m.  There's a lot of room to do something more grandiose than PB without breaking the bank.

Another Riddick movie with a Pitch Black sized budget would be a thousand times better than Babylon A.D..

Pitch Black was pretty decent. Chronicles didn't do anything for me. The basic premise was cool but they went nowhere with it, the movie was a bit disjointed and the ending not only was awfully predictable but the end image of the dude sitting on the throne is a total cliche now.

Funny aside, I wrote a thing for F13 that I never bothered to submit about God of War, two of the images I used were the end of Chronicles and the end of GOW when Riddick / Kratos are sitting on the throne. It's exactly the same shot.

That throne shot has been in like every warring movie/game thing ever where the lead takes over a kingdom. EVER. ^_^

What?  Am i missing a Riddick movie somewhere?  Pitch Black and Chronicles are the only 2 that I can think of.

There was an animated movie that was set in betwen the two live action ones.

Called "Dark Fury" iirc.

Also the game - Escape From Butcher Bay.  When he gets the shine on his eyes.

Yeah I had thought of Conan as well.

There is also the part in ResEvil 4 where you can sit in the thrown.

I want these. I loved riddick and pitch black. The animated one was decent, too.

Riddick is the kind of movie where the hero says shit like "I bow to no man!" with a straight face, and later the Evil Overlord waves all his minions off to take him on in single combat, even though the hero's been foretold to destroy him and the Evil Overlord apparently takes this prophecy quite seriously.  Shit, just the fact that it's the kind of movie that HAS an Evil Overlord, and a hero foretold to destroy him.  If you can't enjoy a movie that's willing to take it's cliches and run with them, then yeah, you won't like it.

Me, I love it.  A big cheesy space epic is like chocolate cake.  You wouldn't want to eat it all the time, but you wouldn't want to go without forever either.

Riddick movies are cool. They are the old school Heavy Metal mags come to life, which is awesome. All they are missing is some full on (off?) female nudity.

The Riddick series was reason enough to buy a discounted 360 HD-DVD drive.

I really want to see something early on in the next movie, along the lines of Judi Dench handing Riddick her 12-point plan on how to turn the Necromongers into a peaceful agrarian society, only to have Riddick tell her to go fuck herself and ask her how she feels about Riddick, King of the Universe.  I mean she was willing enough to describe him as "evil" during the narration early on, let's see a little of it.  Even if he REALLY just wants to use the necros to go to the Underverse and get his dead girlfriend back.  Or whatever.

Evil Overlord as protagonist could be fun, but then I'm the guy who couldn't stomach playing KOTOR on the light side.

I'm a fan of Chronicles as well.  Not perfect, but better than a large percentage of sci-fi put to celluloid.

At least I can give it credit for being an original IP and not another Star Wars / Star Trek / Joss Whedon whatever.

I liked the concept of the bad guys a lot, it just didn't amount to much. The section on the prison planet felt out of place to me. Still I'd give it a marginal thumbs up.

I liked the fact that the bad guys were relatively complex, for that sort of movie.  Sure they wore scary armor and wanted to kill everyone in the universe, and sure they had an idiotic "kill the king to become the king" policy, but they also had enough of a concept of loyalty that Vaako wasn't sure he actually wanted to do it.  They didn't think of themselves as evil, except for that one guy, who killed himself.

I mean it wasn't some highly nuanced society of deep characters, but they weren't Tolkien orcs or Firefly reavers or even Sith.

I loved Pitch Black and thought Chronicles was decent (other than the run from the sun scene). I also love Vin Diesel action movies... I even watched XXX and Fast and the Furious and those were pure shit. Give me more action less The Pacifier plzkthx. If it means more Riddick, there's a lot worse he could be doing.

The Run from the Sun scene is AMAZING looking in 1080p. Fucking amazing.

fuck. don't tempt me to go buy this movie again on blu-ray.

Has anyone seen Babylon A.D.? I know nothing about it.

I saw it. It's schizo. Part of the movie is trying to be Children of Men, part of it is trying to be Riddick. I truly believe that the editor carved the story out of this to sell it as an action movie. It's also based on a French sci-fi novel, so that may tell you all you need to know.

On another note, I don't often (ever) agree with WUA, but on Riddick I agree. I feel that he got whitewashed a little in the sequel, and that killing off the supporting characters was a mistake if they ever want to do more (the black dude and the crazy "Jack"  chick were interesting too damn it.)

Besides, I know a guy who had Vin Diesel play DnD at his house. Any guy who is a total nerd hiding in a jock's body deserves my support.

Kings are often portrayed sitting on thrones.  I don't get the point.  Riddick runs gleefully with it's cliches, but this one is sort of... "Well, yeah?"

No no, it's those specific two ways of sitting in a throne. That sort of "Yea, I'm the king, what of it motherfucker" look.

I didn't notice it until he mentioned it and I STILL think it's coincidence.  However, I believe he was referring to the big red banner with a white circle in it.  Only thing missing is a swastika.

Oh.  But Riddick didn't even do that.  He didn't even seem to realize it was a throne at the time.  He just sorta needed to sit down because his girlfriend had just died, and the throne was the only thing there.  He wasn't doing "RAR I AM KING" posing, he was stupefied when everyone started kneeling.

Pitch Black was the only decent thing on PPV at the time, I musta watched it like 20 times. Good flick, I thought I was kinda alone on liking it.
