Title: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: DeathInABottle on August 14, 2008, 01:00:54 PM Here's the story (http://www.newsobserver.com/print/sunday/sunday_journal/story/1155589.html), such as it is. My favourite line:
"Among the prizes he's won playing 'Guitar Hero' tournaments: gift certificates, gaming equipment and chicken sandwiches." Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: Sky on August 14, 2008, 01:06:55 PM I liked the quote from the utter failure of a mother:
Quote "We couldn't take the complaining anymore," says Hunter. "He always told me that he thought school was a waste of time." Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. Yes, but they have to divide them in fourths.--Dave Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: schild on August 14, 2008, 04:02:58 PM Do Rock Band players win bacon sandwiches? Mahrin neglected to mention that you can only eat the top half of the sandwich which includes no bacon since the bottom half is hindered by a fucking piece of plastic or foam or some shit. Also, it's impossible to hold since the sandwich you receive is flush with the bag creating a terribly slick, frictionless surface. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I do enjoy, GH, but this kid is looking to make a max 80k a year if he's the very best. Some of those kids who quits to practice real guitar went on to become multi-millionaires. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: Sky on August 15, 2008, 06:51:12 AM The term 'old' is not politically correct. The term is 'pre-console'.

Quote Blake has done well in local tournaments, including one held at a Chick-fil-A that earned him 52 combo meals. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: Sky on August 15, 2008, 07:36:48 AM Good to see Arcadian is reaching out to the community.

I'm very confused by this statement. 80k is more than most college grads make. Currently he is being paid in chicken sandwiches, which is pretty far off from even minimum wage... Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: Bunk on August 15, 2008, 09:41:39 AM I believe he is suggesting that if the kid became one of the best GH Players in the world, he might make 80k. As opposed to what you could make being one of the best guitar players in the world.
Also, Chick-fil-a or whatever the hell it is, is the most nonsensical name for a restaurant I've ever heard. I know its a huge chain, but it still sounds ridiculous. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I know its a huge chain, but it still sounds ridiculous. Spawned from The Dwarf House, which I happen to know where the first one is (and thus first Chik-Fil-A). Which is worse? I guessed you missed the word "MAX", as in THE BEST OF THE BEST PLAYERS. Comparing that to "most college grads" is utterly retarded. Also, the article indicated that someone who was making that level of cash would playing Halo 2. There have been plenty of shitty guitar players who have made way more than that. I hope that cleared up your high level of confusion. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. No, I'm still confused. Are you cheering him on? Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. I have a new role model Post by: MuffinMan on August 17, 2008, 07:45:33 AM He could make $80k in chicken sandwiches. That's like 26,000 sandwiches, maybe throw some tenders in there for 2nd place finishes.

Are you cheering him on? You are obviously not currently confused because you appear to be playing both sides of the argument. It seems that you made a mistake in your original reply and are now trying to backtrack. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. If you can do that, you are my (guitar) hero! Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. There have been plenty of shitty guitar players who have made way more than that. The Halo 2 person quoted estimated making $25k over eight years. Most college grads can average that in one.I hope that cleared up your high level of confusion. Title: Re: Kid drops out of school to play GH full time. A best buy high-schooler can get that in a year. A godaddy high school dropout can make twice to three times that in a year. |
