Title: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 11, 2008, 07:53:19 AM I was just looking at the official Eve website and came across these pics. Notice the system map in the bottom right, and the different controls layout. Are these future changes or taken out from old:

Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Pax on August 11, 2008, 08:00:40 AM 5 propulsion mods - dead give away :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: lac on August 11, 2008, 08:02:43 AM Either that or multiple afterburners are making a comeback
edit: bah, beaten Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: sanctuary on August 11, 2008, 08:05:34 AM Bloody hell thats from the early days, the UI changed sometime in 2004 from memory. The 3 little buttons underneath the cap were how you changed from high slots, to mids to lows. Fiddly little things
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Thrawn on August 11, 2008, 08:09:35 AM 2nd shot from the bottom.
Is that a Mega using 2 lasers, 2 torpedo launchers and 2 blasters/railguns? Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: kildorn on August 11, 2008, 10:16:47 AM 2nd shot from the bottom. Is that a Mega using 2 lasers, 2 torpedo launchers and 2 blasters/railguns? He was ready for anything! :drill: I miss the little radar half bubble thing. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: ajax34i on August 11, 2008, 10:21:29 AM Radar half-bubble was kinda crappy. From certain angles you couldn't tell if you were looking top down or from the bottom upwards, it only had one type of icon for everything (blue square with a line), and when they got rid of it they replaced it with the Overview. I'll take the Overview anytime, over that.
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Grand Design on August 11, 2008, 10:45:49 AM Stop. There used to be no overview?
I bet that was interesting. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Der Helm on August 11, 2008, 10:51:54 AM I bet that was interesting. No.Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Grand Design on August 11, 2008, 10:59:29 AM We used to play Eve with no overview, in the snow, using rusty spoons and it was interesting, damnit!
I'm a little shocked that the current UI is CCP's second attempt. That's scary. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: lac on August 11, 2008, 11:02:25 AM Quote I'm a little shocked that the current UI is CCP's second attempt. That's scary. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: kildorn on August 11, 2008, 11:38:45 AM Our internet space ships are likely easier to control than the interface we use. But hey, at least I still warp around seeing flashing red targets on the overview that aren't even in the system! :uhrr:
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Pax on August 11, 2008, 12:11:57 PM Double-tap the TAB key et voila, no more shadows :) Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: apocrypha on August 11, 2008, 12:59:33 PM Double-tap the TAB key et voila, no more shadows :) Or CCP could design a decent fucking UI for once and we could stop having to game the damn thing to make it work. I mean ffs, it's the UI. Everyone uses it every single time they undock. Having it work flawlessly should be the top, number one, ultra super mega fucking priority. </rant> Sorry, it's my biggest bugbear with EVE. I see red when discussions about the entire UI come up. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Grand Design on August 11, 2008, 01:09:57 PM Space is a big, unpredictable place and CCP wants to convey that sense of unknowing with an appropriate interface.
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: kildorn on August 11, 2008, 01:28:16 PM Minmatar ships have an extra 15% chance of the UI fucking up, just to be realistic.
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Roberik Manders on August 11, 2008, 01:57:50 PM Only 15%? Think they need a nerf...
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Phildo on August 11, 2008, 02:32:21 PM Nerf the overview?
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Bungee on August 11, 2008, 02:56:50 PM yay the times when shields where what shields should be in the UI- this!
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Pax on August 12, 2008, 12:15:56 AM Screenshot 3 - shield tanking Apoc. Talk about awful fittings ;D Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 12, 2008, 01:53:26 AM Yeah I just love the interface, its so flexible, stable and reliable. I especially love when you have a drone window and you join a fleet, magnificent! Or my favourite, when you open a cargo container and it magically tabs into the overview...

Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: ajax34i on August 12, 2008, 08:06:08 AM Camera can rotate sideways and you can look down, but not up. Hold ALT button down to see names over people's heads. Hit F10 to get a full-screen map of the station (no non-fullscreen options). Double-click in any direction to walk in that direction. Collision detection like a bestower stuck between two asteroids. Right-click options for any animations or emotes you might want to do. Any interaction with another person requires that you "target lock" that person first, with the familiar sound being played and the crosshairs centering somewhere on their chest. Gravity behaving like in space, where if you try to run around a corner, you seem to be walking on walls, and then you re-verticalize yourself when you stop. Pocket size measured in m3, with the familiar window opening when you press the Open Cargo button.
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: lac on August 12, 2008, 08:09:11 AM Obligatory 'Is that a thorax in your pocket...' joke.
Where did you find that? Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: IainC on August 13, 2008, 11:25:10 AM New graphics engine is a touch of class.

Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Goumindong on August 13, 2008, 02:04:04 PM Screenshot 3 - shield tanking Apoc. Talk about awful fittings ;D The shield tanking apoc was, if i have been informed correctly, actually a lot better than the armor tanking apocs. CPRs didn't give the shield boost penalty, so people were running Dual XLB Apocs and other such ridiculousness iirc. I wasn't playing back then, so ill need a vet to confirm. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 14, 2008, 08:48:21 AM CCP will probably bring in the hello kitty paint jobs to attract the female audience... ;D

(http://litestep.webd.pl/litestep/pics/275_24.jpg) You know this thing would be used by gate gankers everywhere. Also, my girl said she would play EVE if ships were like that. :drillf: Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: kildorn on August 14, 2008, 10:13:02 AM That should be the auto paint job for anyone with a negative sec status.
Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Der Helm on August 14, 2008, 10:23:57 AM That should be the auto paint job for anyone with a negative sec status. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 22, 2008, 03:04:21 AM That should be the auto paint job for anyone with a negative sec status. That should be the defacto paint job for carebears :awesome_for_real: You mean default? defacto: 1. A partner in the manner of a spousal relationship, but without an officially declared marriage, comparable to a common law husband or wife. Its a little bit more binding than a default, so I think its more fitting :-) Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Jayce on August 22, 2008, 11:19:47 AM That's not really the sense of it that most people recognize, I think.
My non-dictionary definition would be "not the thing, but so close that it might as well be the thing". So you're saying it is so close to the carebear paintjob that it might as well be it. Doesn't make sense to me. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 23, 2008, 05:26:39 AM Well I think your non-dictionary definition is actually more fitting again. In fact, its perfect!
Saying it is so close to a carebear paintjob that it might as well be, makes sense to me. Its like an optional extra, where as default is a standard. Default / defacto... 6 of one, half dozen of the other. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Drugstore Space Cowboy on August 23, 2008, 09:32:12 AM Well I think your non-dictionary definition is actually more fitting again. Default / defacto... 6 of one, half dozen of the other. It was a weird choice of word. Technically correct, but not great if you're trying to promote reader comprehension. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Goumindong on August 24, 2008, 04:12:49 AM That is a really terrible definition of "defacto". Not the least since its wrong (a common law husband and wife would be a de jure relationship, a de facto relationship would be an unrecognized girlfriend/boyfriend situation with no official recognition)
De facto is the "opposite" of de jure. Where "de facto" means "in fact" and "de jure" means "in law" So when people say "de facto" they typically mean "that is true in all but law". And when people say "de jure" they typically mean "that is the law, but it may or may not be true" As in "flannel was the de facto uniform of Seattle musicians in the early 90s". There might not have been a law that said so, but it was the uniform. The sentence it was used in here, it makes no fucking sense, because the context was asking for enforcement from CCP, rather than some fantasy like "Oh man, i wish people would break out into song and dance like musicals" (http://sub2change.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/the_more_you_know2.jpg) Woo, bandwidth leaching. Title: Re: Interesting Eve Screenshots Post by: Predator Irl on August 24, 2008, 01:59:00 PM That is a really terrible definition of "defacto... Oh man, who cares.
