Title: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: climbjtree on August 07, 2008, 01:39:04 PM I decided to put this thread here rather than in PnP because I feel like the nature of the game would appeal to more than just tabletop geeks.
http://frontiermux.com/news.php (http://frontiermux.com/news.php) Okay, basically what we have is a MUX that serves as a tabletop for two factions to wage war on. What makes this fun is that it's all real time and it's persistent. The scenario being played rotates pretty frequently and all the maps are pretty good. We usually have only two factions, but in the past we've had up to four(?) when the player base was larger. You can log in via telnet, or mud client and play. This is ill advised. There are two graphical huds available for your gaming pleasure, however: THUD (http://docs.btmux.com/index.php/THUD), which I don't prefer, but requires no install. Xpertmud (http://docs.btmux.com/index.php/Xpertmud) - This is what I use. It might require a little extra to set up, but between me and the documentation I'm sure we can make it work for you! Here is a screenshot I took a few minutes ago. (http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/82469/frontiers.jpeg) The quality could be better, but what the HUD delivers is a graphical readout of current armor values, weapon heat, range, and status, a graphical map, and a heat indicator as well as a text window. As you can see, I'm piloting a tank in this image. As of right now, I'm on the side of the Capellan Confederation. You are randomly assigned to a faction unless you're in an outfit, in which case you go wherever your outfit is assigned. I've set up an outfit named Bat Country in case anyone is interested in joining me. Each outfit can contain only 5 pilots, so first come serve. If you are interested, let me know so that I can help get you set up and point you towards joining Bat Country since it happens during character creation. Respond to the thread, PM me here, look for me online in-game. My name there clownshoes. Here is the documentation if you are interested in browsing it: http://docs.btmux.com/index.php/Site_Frontier:Main_Page (http://docs.btmux.com/index.php/Site_Frontier:Main_Page) If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them. Hope to see some familiar faces there soon. edit: grammar. edit 2: I forgot something. Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: Ironwood on August 07, 2008, 01:40:13 PM Deja Vu ?

Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: climbjtree on August 08, 2008, 10:39:56 AM If I'm not mistaken, it's a sequel to this game (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/darkhorizonslore/index.html), which is available for free now. I gave it a shot, but being an avid mechwarrior fan I just couldn't get into it. It felt too simple.
Also, it looks like it'll be played in InstantAction, which is cool. The tribes alike they've got going is pretty fun and runs very smoothly. Correct on all counts :) Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: Ironwood on August 08, 2008, 11:58:03 PM I know I've said it before, but it IS my intention to get this thing up and running. I find it sad I've just spent tons of money on a new machine and I'm excited about playing a game that looks like Excel 97, but I'll probably post here for setup help later in the day !
:) Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: Ironwood on August 09, 2008, 01:28:10 AM Ok, what the hell is your Outfit number ?
Which apparently I need. Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: climbjtree on August 09, 2008, 06:52:58 PM Sorry for the slow reply.
Outfit name is Bat Country, and the number is 320. See if I'm online whenever you log in - I'll be listed as clownshoes. I won't be on tonight, but I'll check on this thread before I hit the hay tonight. What's your name in game? Also, if you log in and have any questions, use 'pub <message>' and just tell them what you're trying to do. The community is usually pretty helpful. Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: Ironwood on August 09, 2008, 10:46:34 PM It's Ironwood.
If I'm in my mech, my alias is Bodybag. Changed it to that when I took on an Atlas in my Jenner. Ouch. Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: climbjtree on August 11, 2008, 06:29:07 AM You'll find a lot of the older players running around in Atlases, or Awesomes, or Gunslingers... Lots of big boy stuff. I have the most fun in tanks, vtols, bsuits and 20-30 ton mechs, though. As such, my kill to death ratio is atrocious. It's all about having fun though.
I set the outfit to auto accept applications, so if you type "outfit/apply 320" you should be let in to Bat Country. Also, do you understand the unit command and stuff? If you aren't out in your mech, you can type "unitpl" and it will show you a list of units that are available for you to buy. The list changes every hour to a new random list. Type "viewref <name of unit>" to view its stats, and "unitbuy <case sensitive unitref>" to buy it. If you don't have the money to buy the unit, then go out and help capture bases, destroy relays or generators, or drive your fuel truck to a fuel depot and back to a base to refuel it. All of these things will earn you xp (for rank) and money (for buying crap). Also, did you go through the tutorial? Title: Re: Battletech: The Frontier Lands Post by: Ironwood on August 11, 2008, 06:58:47 AM Lots of Yes's to those questions.
