Turner Broadcasting System has decided to sell GameTap, its online video game site and distribution network.

The decision was released as part of parent company Time Warner's second quarter earnings report.

The report mentioned an $18 million noncash impairment attributed to the sale of GameTap.

I never really saw the appeal of gametap. Games are either worth buying to support the devs, or not.

The Client is almost as bad as MTGO. That was the big problem. I see GOG.com being a little successful. Gametap was f'd from the beginning.

I really liked Gametap, particularly the dearth of oldies it had. The UI didn't bother me that much, but then I didn't play the new stuff. Just the oldies. I hope someone can keep it going.

I don't think "dearth" is the word you wanted to use.

Death by client.

I assume he means flood, as such: If by oldies you mean emulated roms, yea, sure. And you know what, that can't support a pay service like this, it works on the Wii sure, but not much anywhere else. Whether piracy is right or not, there's nothing easier to find on the web than clean roms (clean music would win if it were easy to find such a thing (as in, Joe Six-Pack could find them)).

Gametap is forever on my shitlist after their obstinate lack of 64 bit support.  I bought a year long subscription a month before I switched over to x64, and I'm consequently screwed.  Most of the games they offer will run just fine under a 64 bit OS, but their encryption scheme fucks the whole thing up.  After doing some delving on the subject it turns out they've had a two year old message saying, "We're working on 64 bit".

I'm still pissed off about this.

This is why GOG will be oh so nice.

I grabbed the client to play Grimm, but the damn client was so eye-stabbing that I deleted it. Whoever designed the GUI needs to be shot out of a cannon, and then shot in mid-air. I was excited by the old Sierra stuff. I keep hoping they'll put the QFG series on Steam.

Their UI was sweet, sweet heaven with bubbly green rings that sang like baby fishes. "Blu blu bling!" You all are insane for not liking it.

You forgot to add "yo" onto the end of your post.  -2 points.
