I may be joining you guys on EVE.  I won't be trying WAR or AoC because my laptop can't quite handle that much and I think it can handle EVE because it runs LoTR fairly well (I hope so at least).  Plus this genre does hold my interest as every MMOG I have played has been fantasy based.  I'm gonna be looking up some youtube vidoes as I'm curious to see how the gameplay goes in PvP and such.  I have played some flight simulators, but its my understanding that this doesn't control like that (which I am OK with).  Just trying to get an idea of how it controls.  Not sure what I will be making as I have a TON of reading to do to get an idea of what I want to do and such.

I also have to look at my finances as I'm going through a divorce right now that I want to get behind me first.

A couple of things to be aware of. Every gameplay video ever posted has been sped up by 3-5x to not bore people to death. Also, Eve has a free trial, so there's no real need to try to get a feel for things before logging in and playing. If you have Steam access I believe their free trial is a bit longer than the one from CCP. 21 days as opposed to 14.

Don't bother, the videos will make Eve looking boring tbh and won't give you any idea of the depth of the game. As Viin said, try the two week trial, its the only way to get a feel for it.

Combat is not about twitch reactions at all.  Combat is about preparing your ship ahead of time to either:

a.  Counter what you think your opponent will bring, or
b.  Complement the fleet that you're in with your friends, bringing abilitites they don't have (or more firepower).

Then you go about finding targets to shoot at, and when you do find them, activating your strategy / following the steps so that you do ensnare them and kill them.   It's all about recognizing ships and situations at a glance, knowing what trumps what, and executing your plan properly.

The rest of the game is a grind for cash to support the loss of ships you'll have through PVP.  The grind can be complex and offer a variety of activities that you may enjoy, but it's a grind at the core of it.

The game doesn't have rails; if you don't have friends to share common goals with, or if you can't make your own goals, you'll grow bored.  Fortunately, BAT/F13 people are EXCELLENT people to group with, I haven't had this much fun in a long time.

Thank you very much for the compliment ;-).  Yeah, I'm used to non-linear experience and honestly... I kinda prefer it.  I get bored with the linear stuff.  I was an old Metropolis go'er.  I'm hoping I do get into it.  I miss playing MMOG type games.  I still have a LOTR acct that has a lifetime on it, but I need a break from the fantasy setting stuff and this has my attention.  I will load up my Steam and download it.  Hopefully my laptop can run it.

Just dont run the premier graphics and you will be fine.

Eve is fun, man.  After eight years of fantasy MMORPGs it's an extremely refreshing game.  Highly recommended.
