It is the alliance tournament, so yes. Title: Re: Mining Like You've Never Seen It Before Post by: apocrypha on July 30, 2008, 11:22:43 PM While this does sound like it could be entertaining I just hate the way CCP announce and publicise these things. Announcing it in a devblog like that just makes it feel artificial. Like a game of CTF or kick the can or something.
I mean, the whole of EVE is supposedly in the middle of a huge (factional) war. How does a mining competition fit into this universe? Where's the backstory? I know they'll shoehorn one on, but one (of the many) thing(s) EVE seriously lacks is immersion and gripping storyline. The alliance tournament should be a major part of that IMO. Anyway. Who wants to buy a researched Osprey BPO? :awesome_for_real: Title: Re: Mining Like You've Never Seen It Before Post by: Drugstore Space Cowboy on July 30, 2008, 11:26:22 PM While this does sound like it could be entertaining I just hate the way CCP announce and publicise these things. This isn't the normal EVE TV thingamajig. Title: Re: Mining Like You've Never Seen It Before Post by: lac on August 02, 2008, 01:52:50 PM While it seems to go a bit against the general design philosophy they should make these kinds of games available to everyone in every station. Some sort of virtual reality pod pilots can plug into and experience fastpaced pvp games in t1 ships with t1 modules while they wait for the next fleet op, skillchange or whatever they do in their 'real' eve life. Something totally removed from the sandbox as we know it but easily accessible and without consequences.
Just some mindless eve fun you can dive into to kill half an hour. Title: Re: Mining Like You've Never Seen It Before Post by: Drugstore Space Cowboy on August 02, 2008, 02:31:25 PM As long as you don't get any reward for it, sure.

Good point there. The choice, then, is between offering more (non-rewarding) options for people who will probably log out otherwise and offering more bored, complacent targets for gankers like me :drill: Title: Re: Mining Like You've Never Seen It Before Post by: Drugstore Space Cowboy on August 29, 2008, 09:47:55 PM Official rules and video out. (http://www.eve-online.com/fanfest/2008/pvprules.asp) Did anyone notice a hint of irony in the "actual mining footage"?
